Chennai police is on the lookout for a software engineer, working in Singapore, who had allegedly assaulted and tried to strangulate his wife during their Singapore-Chennai flight.
According to a complaint filed by Swarnalatha, 27, of Mandaveli, on Monday, her husband, Sri Krishna, 35, during a flight from Singapore to Chennai, assaulted and tried to strangulate her after a quarrel onboard. The couple landed at Chennai airport three weeks back.
Though the woman tried to lodge a complaint the same day, the police, finding that the couple was not on good terms though they were married only six months back, advised them to go to an all-woman police station.
Sri Krishna, a divorcee residing at Tambaram, married Swarnalatha, another divorcee, six months ago, with the blessings of their families. As Sri Krishna got a job in Singapore immediately after marriage, the couple left the country.
However, for the last three months, they had been calling their families and saying that all was not well.
“It seems they continued their fight while travelling to Chennai on October 14. After listening to their story, we advised them to go to an all-woman police station. They went to St. Thomas Mount all-woman police station the next day and said they want to divorce. Swarnalatha wanted her husband to return the dowry and gold jewellery, to which he agreed,” the police said.
However, even after three weeks, he has not returned the things. “He has vanished. He is not in his house or office in Singapore. So, the woman lodged a complaint with us regarding the alleged assault,” the police added.
