I ones had an argument with a female friend who said that "Every man nowadays is a potential rapist", and my answer to that was that "Every woman nowadays is a potential prostitute". As hash as these might sound, could there be any element of truth to any of these claims??

To balance your argument, NOT every man is a potential rapist, neither is every woman a potential prostitute. Out of Twelve Disciples, there was a one wayward man, so also out every tent of people, if nine are bad, there must be one that is good.
So, your arguments are both baseless.

The highlighted in your comment line is a testament to the fact that there is an element of truth to both claims, and I am in agreement with you 100%. But saying that the arguments are both baseless contradicts your further string of examples in your comment.

The issue here is that of choice. There is no simple answer to this question. Every man is a mixture of the cravings of the flesh (The devil) and the purity of the spirit (God). The measure of a Man is based on which one of these polarities wins out at the end of the day. Based on, this good or bad decisions are more a matter of personal choice although there may be provisos in which some choices are permitted based on available options to the individual taking them. A woman may become a prostitute to earn a livelihood for herself as her body may be the only way she can get a solid means of looking after herself. Every woman, largely given that things like choice are taken to the extreme, can choose not to be a prostitute. However, It is easier for a Man not to be a rapist than for a Woman not to be a prostitute. The prostitution is an economically tied issue while the rapist issue is one tied on moral disposition so it is easier for a Man to choose not to be a rapist than for a Woman to choose not to be prostitute.
