Five men have been arrested by police in Ghana with a soft-drinks distribution truckload of guns and ammunition bound for Nigeria.

The greater Accra Police Command says two of the arrested suspects are Nigerian nationals, while the other three are residents of Ghana.

Reuters News Agency quotes deputy police superintendant Cephas Arthur as saying police found pump action guns, double barrelled shot-guns, an unspecified number of cartridges and boxes of ammunition under a false metal plate floor in the truck, during a search in Achimota, an Accra suburb on Tuesday following a tip-off.

The Northern part of Nigeria has witnessed wide spread violence after local terrorist group, Boko Haram, killed dozens of people in multiple bombings.
