Mamman Shettima was trailed by two gunmen who shot him close to his house in Ajari, near the Central Primary School, Damaturu. The area is also a stone throw from the palace of Emir of Damaturu.
Shettima, Daily Trust heard, was chatting with friends when he was shot.
The two gunmen, according to a witness, stormed the area at about 7:30 pm, and shot him at close range “We were sitting close to them, when the two men came and shot him. They first threw an explosive that made people to scamper for safety,” he said. The gunmen quickly fled the area leaving the officer in a pool of his own blood.
Yobe State Commissioner of Police, Lawal Tanko, who spoke to our correspondent on phone, confirmed the shooting and said investigation is on.
“We received report on the attack and discussed with the Director SSS. I learnt that he was shot at his thigh, but I am not sure if he is dead. Please call back when we get the detail,” he said
The commissioner was said to be in a meeting up to the time of filing this report.
