It was learnt that the deceased, popularly called Iya Fatimah, just arrived from where she was selling fufu around 7pm on Saturday when the incident occurred.
An eyewitness in the area said, “At about 9.30pm, the woman saw one of her debtors, who bought N50 worth of fufu from her and attempted to collect her money from her.”
However, the lady was said to have told Iya Fatimah that she had no money to pay at the time. This did not go down well with the fufu seller. She reportedly slumped shortly after she engaged her debtor in the argument.
Efforts to revive her was said to have proved abortive. She was later rushed to a nearby hospital where she was confirmed dead.
The debtor, seeing that Iya Fatimah had died, allegedly took to her heels.
The deceased's husband later reported the case to the Apata Police Divisional Headquarters in Ibadan.
A mild drama was said to have ensued on Sunday when policemen from the Apata Divisional Police Headquarters came to take the deceased to the mortuary for autopsy but her children insisted that they were not interested in pursuing the case.
The deceased's children blamed their stepfather for reporting the case to the police.
They demanded the return of the remains of their mother for burial according to the Islamic rites but the police refused to grant their request on the grounds that the command was already investigating the matter.
