Lies they tell to defraud online admirers Talk of internet fraud, most people in Nigeria think of men and the so called Yahoo boys. However, their female counterparts are gradually taking over. The game plan is also not too different, but this one is mainly targeted at sex adventurers as JIBOLA OYEKUNLE reports.

Trouble times are here for diehard womanisers who would stake anything to take a young lady to bed, following revelations that young women, especially those on the campuses are gradually taking over Yahoo-Yahoo, an internet fraud, from their male counterparts.

Recent findings revealed that the internet prank is currently being played by young women to extort money from unsuspecting men making amorous on-line overtures to them.

Unlike their male counterparts the ladies’ targets are not necessarily the white magas as more black men especially some randy money bags are said to have been falling prey to the internet gimmicks.

The prank, particularly when played by luscious ladies with pretty faces, seductive figures, sexy cleavages usually packaged in form of pictures and posted on the internet, needs no influence of an African charm before a randy man would succumb.

The ladies, it was gathered, are taking advantage of the easy availability of the mobile internet facilities being provided by different network providers, aided by the BlackBerry revolution, which now allows every Tom, Dick and Harry to access internet on their Black-berry devices.

They are also said to make use of different dating and networking sites such as Badoo, Facebook, Twitter, Black Berry Messenger (BBM) where they pack-age their pictures to seduce men and further ensnare them with all sorts of lies to make such men send money into their accounts.

Such ladies, findings revealed, would stop communicating with their respective victims by the time they have extorted enough from them and realized that the man is beginning to suspect a foul play.

Then they move on to their next prey.  “That is simply how a smart lady can survive without necessarily sleeping with men. And the truth is that many men are still gullible as they easily dance to our tune even when they are not seeing you one on one.

A beautiful lady does not need a charm to get a man, especially if that man is an unprincipled womaniser,” said a female university student, who claimed to have survived so far on proceeds from her internet exploits.

Another who craved anonymity revealed: “I play men, especially the married men because they deserve to be so treated. In my own case, the bulk of my victims are rich Nigerian men. First, I am from a poor background and I need a lot of money to take care of myself and also pay my school fees.

Unless you re-ally like that man and you just feel comfortable having sex with him. Otherwise, there are ways you can extort money from him without sleeping with him. “The truth is that no man would want to assist you financially without asking you out.

But how many men would I sleep with? So, you just have to play smart because you need money. Girls are doing this all over the campuses. In fact, I know more than a thousand of girls in my own school who dupe guys on the net. The game is simple.

Chat up the guy and give him fake details about you. Give him an impression that you are from a rich background. This will make him to rate you high in whatever he would send to you later. “Give him audience and after some time, pretend to be in love with him.

Depending on the way you handle them, most men would assume that you are their girlfriend and would want to do anything to prove that they are caring.

If he is based in Abuja, tell him you are in Lagos, Port Harcourt or any other place that is far. Most men would prefer that you come to them and would eventually send money for flight into your ac-count after they must have sent money for your hairdo, cloths and settled your school bills.

By the time you count the money some men would have sent to you, you would be having over N200, 000 in your bank account. If you are lucky and smart, you can be making an average of N100, 000 or more every month. “Unless you are greedy, you don’t need to travel to go and meet such a man and allow him to have sex with you.

All you need to do is give an excuse. By the time you keep collecting his money and giving excuses for not being able to travel to meet him, he would stop disturbing you.

Sometimes, some would still continue to send money to you so as to persuade you to fall for them. “The more reluctant you are, the more desperate some men become.

This gives some of us who have the guts an advantage to make more money. If you are somebody that can’t control your feelings, however, you may not be able to sustain your prank with some guys because they put so much pressure on you to succumb and they would eventually succeed in taking you to bed.

In my own case, I stop communicating with such a man when I realize that his pres-sure is becoming too much to bear.” Until now, the practice was a criminal act associated with young men even as findings revealed that in spite of the recent battle against cyber crime the continuous increase in the number of jobless youths, especially graduates of higher institutions may have in recent time attracted more initiates into this so-called Yahoo deal, as more youths now appear desperate to live life on a fast lane.

More alarming, these crops of daring and desperate youths, according to findings, are fast taking to diabolical means to defraud their victims, who are mostly white.

Although voodoo, a practice involving belief in sorcery and use of charms, has no scientific backing as to its presumed efficacy, its practitioners believe in its manipulative power to aide success in all areas of human endeavour.

Recent findings by Saturday Mirror showed that apart from their often well-articulated deceptive overtures against their hapless victims many of the ‘yahoo boys’, as the internet fraudsters are popularly called, rely heavily on this means in ensnaring their unsuspecting ‘business partners’.

Before now, the so-called yahoo boys were a common sight at different cyber cafes across the country where they browsed in search of new online fraudulent deals.

But following the recent war against cyber crimes in the country and their arrest and prosecution in the courts of law many of them, we learn, now perpetrate the heinous crime in the privacy of their bedrooms.
