The Minister of Works, Sen. Dave Umahi, disclosed on Sunday that he has received a directive from the President for the prompt design of the Sokoto-Badagry Coastal Highway.
“This one is a spur of the Coastal highway, and that one is 1000 kilometre,” he says.
“We also have another spur which is going to go from Enugu-Abakaliki-Ogoja going to Cameroon.”
Umahi is currently constructing the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway at a total cost of $11.1bn for 700 km. The construction will take eight years. Infact the entire may take up to 30 years.
Nigerians are wondering why trillions is being spent on a coastal road when over half of Nigerians can not afford more than a meal a day?
There are several abandoned federal roads that are de@th traps and in need of immediate repairs but we are pushing
for a white elephant project which only ends up worsening our sagging debt burden.
Currently, Nigeria has about 5-10 uncompleted federal roads per region which has been abandoned. Why not embark on a project that would ease the suffering and pains of the masses?
The power sector is largely comatose, but you will sink an excess of 15 trillion to build coastal roads???
Too many questions begging for answers. Nigerians need to wake up and begin to ask the right questions.
