Over the weekend, the Ondo State Police Command apprehended a middle-aged man for falsely claiming to be a seasoned assassin with purportedly 500 assassinations under his belt.

The suspect, identified as Adesina Adetokunbo, was nabbed following reports of threats made against owners of pure water factories in the state.

According to Commissioner of Police Abayomi Oladipupo, Adetokunbo had allegedly contacted one of the factory owners, falsely accusing three of her employees of hiring him to end her life. He then demanded a payment to spare her life.

"On April 18, 2024, at approximately 7:00 am, a report was filed with the police regarding threats to the life of an individual and extortion," stated Commissioner Oladipupo. "The complainant received a disturbing call from an unfamiliar number, where the caller claimed to be an assassin."

"The caller asserted that he had eliminated over 500 people and that three of the complainant's staff had paid him to carry out her assassination. He demanded a specific amount to be paid to an account, threatening the complainant with execution if she failed to comply."

Fearful for her life, the victim transferred ₦110,000 to the provided account. However, with the aid of technical assistance, the police were able to trace and apprehend Adetokunbo Adesina. Upon interrogation, the suspect claimed to be in dire need of money for a surgical operation due to illness.

"It was later discovered that he concocted the threat to extort money from the victim after she refused to hire him at her pure water factory," Commissioner Oladipupo added.

The arrest underscores the commitment of the Ondo State Police Command to combatting crime and protecting the lives and property of residents. Authorities urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to law enforcement agencies.
