Speaking on a live television programme in Lagos this morning, Aregbesola slammed Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, stalwart, Senator Iyiola Omisore, saying his allegations are baseless and frivolous because he was merely whipping up sentiments.
He described the claims and allegations as the reaction of people who never expected the political Tsunami that erupted in Osun state adding, “at the peak of Omisore’s popularity in 2011, he got only four votes in his ward in the last election.”
Answering questions from the anchor perons on Sunrise Daily, a morning programme on Channels Television today, Aregbesola said PDP members are selling lies to the people as the truth in their effort to reclaim Osun state from Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN.
The Osun state governor said he was PDP members’ target of attack because it was the only state in the southwest that did not vote for President Goodluck Jonathan during the last general elections.
Defending his action on renaming Osun state ‘state of Osun’, Aregbesola cited section 3 (1) of the Nigerian Constitution, saying “Nigeria has 36 states listed while Nigeria is known as ‘the Federal Republic of Nigeria’. The Federal Government of Nigeria is the official name of Nigeria. Therefore in the same vein, Osun State can be addressed as ‘state government of Osun’ or ‘state of Osun.’”
He said there is nothing extraordinary about calling Osun state ‘state of Osun’ because that is the best way to call the state.
He added that in other countries, especially India, they refer to their state in this form.
Aregbesola denied the claim that he planned to Islamise Osun state, saying that his sister is a Christian. “If I could not islamise my nuclear family, how can I Islamise Osun state?” he queried.
He said those behind a purported report of the State Security Service, SSS, published about him by a national daily were people who had a score to settle with him and their masterminded report.
He said it is illogical to use unemployed graduates he employed and paid pitiance for security. “What manner of security can such people provide?” he questioned.
Answering a question on his medical records demanded by some of his detractors, Aregbesola said: “you cannot act like a mad man because you want to satisfy a mad man. If somebody claims you have scar on your body, you cannot pull off your dress to satisfy him.”
