The Commissioner for Education in Ekiti State, Dr. Eniola Ajayi, has said teachers in the public primary and secondary schools in the the state will write the Teachers’ Development Need Assessment organised by the state government.

The commissioner’s comment came barely a week after the labour unions in the state and the state government agreed at a meeting that test and examination for workers on grade levels 01-14 be suspended.

At a ministerial press briefing to showcase the achievements of her ministry on Thursday in Ekiti, Ajayi said the administration was committed to raising the standard of education in the state. She stated that this was the reason for the renovation of schools and provision of free computer for secondary schools students.

She said, “The TDNA is a must and we are still going to have that.”

The commissioner said Governor  Kayode Fayemi would  not compromise on developing the education sector which she said was  in a mess just because of what the people would say.

Ajayi said the state government had started computer training for  teachers, adding that some measures had ben introduced to motivate teachers to give their best.

According to her, the state government will work tirelessly to ensure that the state is rid of examination malractices. She added that the government had also approved the building of remedial centres at each of the 16 local governments to assist students preparing  to write examinations.

It will be recalled that the chairman of the TUC, Mr. Kolawole Olaiya, his NLC counterpart, Mr. Ayodeji Aluko and the Chairman of the JNC, Mr. Joseph Ajayi, together with the Commissioner for Labour, Productivity and Human Capital Development, Mr. Wole Adewumi, and the Commissioner for Information, Mr. Funminiyi Afuye, announced the suspension of the test while briefing journalists after a meeting on Saturday.

The JNC chairman said, “ Examination for levels 1-14 stands suspended by the state government. But from grade level 15 and above, we heard that they have agreed to write the examination. Certain things would be put in place before they write the examination.”
