Peoples Democratic Party in Zamfara State has criticised the Zamfara State Government over its sacking of over 7,000 workers.

PDP North West Zonal Ex-officio, Alhaji Faruk Ahmed, told the News Agency of Nigeria in Gusau on Monday that the administration was insensitivity to the plight of the people.

Ahmed described the sacking of the workers as “a demonstration of poor administration.”

He said that if the government could use N2.7 billion to buy grains and distribute free of charge to the people during the Ramadan, then it should be able to pay those who labour for the state.

He alleged that since Governor Abdulaziz Yari’s administration took over the helms of affairs in the state in the last one year, the poverty level of the state had increased.

“The state government has continued to borrow money from banks in order to put the state in more difficulties,’’ he said.

He said that the money spent by the government was not spent in Kano and Katsina states, which had 44 and 34 local government areas respectively.

According to him, none of them spent up to N1 billion for that purpose.

He said the amount spent in the purchase of grains for Ramadan could be used to pay the sacked workers.

Ahmed noted that during the Mahmuda Shinkafi, PDP-led administration, the State Government spent N150 million while the 14 Local Government Areas spent N150 million, totaling N300 million during fasting.

He called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to investigate this expenditure.

About 7,900 workers who were allegedly recruited improperly in 2010 were declared ghost workers by a rationalisation committee set up by the state government.
