There are women who like bad boys and then there’s Edith Casas.
The 22-year-old Argentinean woman just celebrated this Valentine’s Day by marrying the man currently serving a 13-year prison sentence for murdering her twin sister.
Johana Casas died days before her 20th birthday
And how’s this for a honeymoon? After the civil ceremony, which took place in Pico Truncado, Argentina, police escorted the groom straight back to his jail cell, while angry crowds had gathered outside the courthouse to pelt the newlyweds with eggs and stones.
As the Independent reports, 28-year-old Víctor Cingolani was convicted of participating in the 2010 shooting death of Johana Casas.
The 19-year-old model was found with two gunshot wounds to the head, her body dumped in a nearby clearing.
Marcos Diaz, a man with whom Casas had been sharing a house at the time, is set to stand trial for his role in the killing later this year.
Cingolani maintains his innocence, though the court found him to be a “willing participant” in the murder. His new bride believes him. “I’m going to get married to the person I love and not the person who killed my sister,” she said, alluding perhaps to some sort of metaphysical porthole the rest of us have not yet discovered.
Naturally, the developments are not sitting well with Casas’ parents, who tried to block the marriage by claiming their daughter was mentally unstable.
Psychological testing showed no indication of “mental dysfunction” and the nuptials were allowed to proceed. Not that the day was happy for everyone.
“For me, both of them are dead,” the bride’s father Valentín Casas told Clarín newspaper in December.
"Johana is with God and Edith is with the Devil."
