The Ogun State Police Command has said that it has arrested a taxi driver identified as Taofiq Akintoluwa  for allegedly conveying weeds suspected to be Indian hemp.
The state Commissioner of Police, Ikemefuna Okoye, stated this while parading  the suspect at the police headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta, yesterday, adding that  28 bags of Indian hemp were recovered .
Ikemefuna  later handed over the  suspect and the seized items  to officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, for further interrogation and prosecution.
He explained that  20 bags of Indian hemp were recovered in Makun area of Sagamu and eight others from Ayetoro, Yewa North Local Government Area of the state, during separate operations carried out by men of Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, and Criminal Investigation Department, CID.
He, however, said   the suspects  that conveyed  the weeds in Sagamu escaped from the scene, but, Akintoluwa was unlucky as he was  arrested with the eight bags in a taxi with registration number Ogun XB 940 LAR.
Also speaking, the state NDLEA Commander, Bala Fagge, expressed satisfaction with the police for cooperating with his agency in the fight against narcotics and other illicit drug.
The NDLEA boss assured that Akintoluwa will be interrogated with a view to apprehending other suspect connected with the incident.
