A 65-year old man, Adebayo Akinrinlade, was charged to court today for allegedly beating his tenant, Uche Michael to death.

Akinrinlade was arraigned before a Tinubu Magistrate Court in  Lagos.

The suspect who lives at No. 40, Church Street, Aboru, Iyana-Ipaja, is currently facing a one-count charge of unlawful beating, causing death.

According to Premium Times reports, “The late Michael, who was a tenant in Akinrinlade’s compound, had a tussle with his landlord over a broken pipe from his toilet, which was leaking. A naming ceremony of the accused’s grandson was going on directly at the back of late Michael’s toilet and he had earlier been warned not to flush, in other not to disturb the ceremony.

“The late Michael flushed the toilet during the naming ceremony, causing a leakage and disrupting the ceremony, which angered the accused and his son.

“Michael was summoned and accosted by the accused and other thugs, who were invited to deal with the deceased for breaching his landlord’s order and disturbing the ceremony.

“Michael was hit on the head with a stick by the accused and he slumped and became unconscious, after which he was rushed to the hospital where he was confirmed dead,’’ Mr. Okoye, a police inspector, said.

The prosecutor explained that the offence contravenes Section 223(1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

However, the accused, pleaded not guilty to the charge. The Chief Magistrate, A.O. Awogboro, granted the accused bail in the sum of N1 million, with two sureties in like sum. He adjourned further hearing in the matter till January 13, 2014.

They wernt doing the ceremony in the bathroom. The leakage was most likely in the living room. Just like in a two story house. A room will be below the kitchen, while another will be below a bedroom or bathroom. But overall, what the man did was wrong. Now you will tell your grandson that you went to jail during his ceremony (If you live that long).

according to dis post and the way I can understand it,, I don't think that pipe leakage started d day of the ceremony, which means it would have been repaired long before the ceremony but the landlord neglected it and it has caused him killing his tenant for flushing the toilet in his own apartment where he lived and paying for..In the other hand the tenant could have avoided this by finding alternative for defecating only for that day...I guess this is a matter of understanding and probably both of them were not in good terms before the unfortunate incident..
