Jiang Maode, 53, was so grief stricken that he couldn't let his dead wife go- literally. Five months after her death, her body is inside an ice coffin at their home.
Last November, his wife Yang Huiging died from Leukaemia. Maode says he cannot bear to be alone. He says he even talks to her every day in their home located in South-West China every day. “When I come home I often speak to her for over an hour, talking about everything that had happened that day.”
Keeping her in an ice coffin is also part of the vow he made to his wife. "Just before she passed away I promised her that I would keep her at home. She asked me to take her home. She couldn't bear to leave me and I could not bear to be separated from her” said Maode.
"I promised her that I would keep her at home after she passed away and when she heard this she was very happy”
he further said.
The widower insists he will keep his wife’s corpse with him forever, although his son wants his father to cremate his mother.
Maode’s persistence is against the law which states that funeral parlours can only hold bodies for five days.
The police are currently looking into the matter.
