
Tragedy struck the Ogbaulu community in Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State as bandits attacked and killed three villagers while they were working on their farms.
According to reports from a local source who spoke to journalists on Saturday, May 4, 2024, the victims were engaged in their separate farming activities on Friday afternoon when the assailants struck.
"Three persons were slaughtered again by unknown gunmen on Friday at their farms in Ogbaulu community,” the source disclosed.
Chairman of Agatu LGA, Yakubu Ochepo, confirmed the attack, stating that the perpetrators infiltrated the community through neighbouring Apa LGA and brutally hacked the victims to death.
“It’s true the incident happened on Friday and the attackers came through Apa LGA, two of the deceased were natives of Agatu while the other victim hailed from Apa LGA,” Ochepo affirmed.
The communities of Otukpo and Apa Agatu LGAs have witnessed a surge in bandit attacks and killings in recent times, prompting widespread concern among residents.
Expressing his dismay over the incessant violence, His Royal Majesty, the Och’Idoma, Dr. John Eliagwu Odogbo, the paramount ruler of the Idoma nation, condemned the recent spate of attacks within Agatu and its environs.
In a statement issued by his media aide, Onuminya Odoba, the monarch mourned the loss of the three individuals who were tragically murdered while carrying out their lawful activities.
“Agaba-Idu calls on the Police and local vigilantes to nip this trend on the sprout, investigate, and bring culprits to answer for the crime as humanity,” the statement emphasized.
The royal father assured all law-abiding individuals in Idoma land of a commitment to fostering peaceful coexistence within the kingdom, pledging continuous collaboration with government agencies and local authorities to ensure the safety and prosperity of the people.
