The police, on Thursday, said the British High Commission in Nigeria confirmed that Buruji Kashamu (senator-elect), was arrested and tried in a United Kingdom criminal court.
This was contained in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, CP Emmanuel Ojukwu, in Abuja.

It said there was enquiry concerning the status of Kashamu’s legal battles in the United Kingdom and United States.
“The police, thereafter, sought relevant clarifications from the British High Commission.
“The commission confirmed that Kashamu was indeed arrested and tried in the United Kingdom criminal court. But the court was not satisfied that Kashamu had a case to answer.”
The statement stressed that the commission’s clarification did not derogate from extradition request by United States’ relevant departments, and agencies of government in Nigeria”, the statement said.
The statement was also issued in connection to the extradition battles of Kashamu with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.
