Four female students of Ebonyi State University (EBSU), Abakaliki, have allegedly been abducted by gunmen who invaded the Simeon Oduoye female hostel of the College of Agricultural Science campus of the university.

Two of the security agents manning the campus were said to have been shot on their legs by the gunmen a situation which forced others to go into hiding for safety.

Some of the students of the campus who did not want their names in print told New Telegraph that the attack occurred at about 1 am on Monday.

“We were in deep sleep when we began to hear strange movement and noise only to discover that robbers had invaded our hostel. They were entering rooms’ one after another attacking and dispossessing people of their belongings including phones and laptops,” the students said.

The Dean Students Affairs of EBSU, Professor Hillary Eze confirmed the report but noted that the robbery operation was quelled through the prompt intervention of security agents.

“There was a robbery incident at one of our hostels. The robbers forced themselves into some rooms which mean the burglary bars were forcefully removed, doors broken. Students were attacked. I think by our calculation, about 16 phones and two or three laptops were made away by the robbers and security men on duty were also manhandled.

“The robbery operation lasted less than 30 minutes. When I received the information I contacted AC operation who responded immediately by dispatching three teams of police officers to the area. But before they could access the hostel the hoodlums had run away.”

He described as untrue that robbers shot some security men saying the robbers only attacked the students and the security men with cutlasses.

Prof. Eze, who said three female students and two security men were injured, added that they were immediately rushed to the state police clinic by the police officers deployed to the scene and were treated and discharged immediately.

He stated that the university management was taking stringent measures to ensure that such incident does not re-occur.

When contacted the state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, DSP Chris Anyanwu said he cannot confirm the authenticity or otherwise of the report since he was out of the state on an official assignment.

And instead of combating these sorts of outrageous atrocities, the Nigerian police should go around harassing civilians for motherflipping change and wearing camo.. despicable, spineless jags.
