Seven people were yesterday feared dead in a fatal auto crash that occurred at Oyo-
Ogbomoso road.

Several others were said to have sustained
life-threatening injuries in the accident.
An eyewitness, who simply gave his name as
Tayo, disclosed that the casualty figure in the accident was high.

He said when he got to the accident scene
some moments after it occurred, people were assisting the victims.

Our correspondent learnt that the accident
occurred when an Ilorin-bound commercial
bus overtook a Sport Utility Vehicle and tried to manoeuvre its way back to its lane, but failed.

It was gathered that driver of the SUV
increased speed and made it difficult for the commercial bus to join the lane.
“When driver of the SUV increased speed,
there was an articulated truck coming from
Ilorin. Driver of the truck saw the commercial bus and applied brake. The impact of the brake was so much that the truck kept moving and with the high speed of the commercial bus, which was coming from Lagos, the driver could not control the bus and collided with the truck.

“Six persons died on the spot, while another victim died on the way to the hospital. Only the driver of the bus survived the accident,” an eye witness said. It was learnt that the accident caused traffic
gridlock, which delayed other road users for
more than 30 minutes.

As at the time of filing this report, security
agents were said to have towed the mangled vehicles off the road.

When contacted, the state Police Public
Relations Officer, PPRO, Adekunle Ajisebutu, said he would contact their men in Oyo town and Ogbomoso and get back but did not do so as at the time of filling the report.

In another development, a truck loaded with 33,000 litres of fuel was said to have
somersaulted at Taki area of Ogbomoso and
emptied its contents.

Many people were said to be scooping fuel
from the scene while security men have been dispatched to the scene to prevent casualty.
