There is nothing in the report about the disposition of their bodies when they were found.
Arthur Conan Doyle (creator of Sherlock Holmes) decried the attitude of the Police of their time, who tramples and contaminated crime scenes, compromising important clues. Local Nigerian people who otherwise speak very good English have no idea that such a word exists, and have never ever heard it spoken nor read it, all their lives. When I ask kids one third my age about concepts I was familar with when younger than them, they never heard of them.

If we had real Police, wouldn't they go on Radio and TV, and go lecture in Primary, Secondary, Post-Secondary schools and Universities, advising on CRIME SCENE PROTOCOLS. Like, "You find your neighbour- who just happens to owe you money- lying in the street with a knife in his back- PLEASE DON'T TOUCH IT!" Accident Protocols: "If someone gets knocked down, DON'T JUST GRAB THEM AND SNAP THEIR SPINAL CORD- bring the doctor to THEM!"

Three things I know do this accidentally:

1. CASSAVA CYANIDE poisoning. Badly processed cassava releases cyanide- especially in the presence of acid.
From time to time, schoolkids of poor ignorant parents eat unripe mangoes (they taste like apples), go home and "drink" garri (cassava meal), the staple diet of the poor, and die. The citric acid apparently releases that little bit extra cyanide that is always present in even the best processed cassava, which would never be released, except by this chemical provocation. We do not (customarily) take vinegar (acetic acid) with our meals- if some of us tried this, I am certain we will see casualties.

The new cheap fruit drinks, mixed by people who failed Chemistry, who think that adding citric acid and flavoring to sugar-water makes it a fruit drink (malic acid is used to simulate pineapple juice) can have unexpected reactions with cassava, and perhaps other harmless traditional foods as well. A medical textbook on poisoning cited a case in which a person was poisoned from eating roasted almond seeds- which, it emerges, contain chemically-combined cyanide- the James Bond 007 suicide drug (it appears fanatic Atheistic Intelligence Agents did commit suicide to avoid giving away vital information when captured).

I nearly killed myself drinking EVE orange drink, in combination with MSG seasonings.

2. MSG-POISONING- There have been a number of reports about entire families dying after eating a meal of Instant Noodles.
These noodles are invariably garnished with Monosodium Glutamate. (Any fool swallowing something with a jaw-breaking name like that deserves exactly what they get.) Combined with the artificial sweetner, ASPARTAME, in an experiments on mice- believed biologically similar to Humans- the mixture put HOLES IN THEIR BRAINS. This is not good. I had heard of this, but, an avid consumer of MSG, I never believed it could happen to me. When EVE drink came out, I put it in the well-water I drank (it was good water, but tasted- some kind hint of... something bitter,) in three months I developed migraine headaches. As I don't take drugs- because if I have a headache, I want to know WHY, not cover it up- I noticed. It took EIGHT months of abstinence from both MSG and aspartame before I could tolerate MSG again. (It's in everybody's food, and all the canteens.) Before that time, if I took something that had been tainted by a few drops of MSG (I had the canteen at work give me rice with just oil out of the stew, but none of the stew. She thought it amusing- but it was MY head, not hers'!) I would develop a headache within ten minutes.

Many people are being poisoned by various things, and take painkillers because they don't want to know about it.
My advice to parents is that they never tell your children it is okay to do that. I don't care what the doctors say.
The system that gave them their medical degrees makes its money off those dirty drugs.

3. CARBON MONOXIDE POISONING- When you breathe, Oxygen combines with your blood to form Oxyhaemoglobin. When the red  blood cells get to the parts of the body that are deficient in Oxygen, they give up the Oxygen and take on Carbon Dioxide, forming the compound Carboxyhaemoglobin. When blood with Carboxy-haemoglobin gets to the lungs, where there is plenty of Oxygen- unless your creditors have ambushed you at last, and have got to your neck- the Carboxy-haemoglobinized blood gives up its carbon Dioxide, and takes on Oxygen, continuing around the body to continue the cycle.

I swear that I am not making this (*Bleep!*) up! That's what the textbooks say! (Except for the bit about strangulation- that was all me.)

When and if you inhale Carbon Monoxide, the Carboxy-Haemoglobin that is formed is permanent. That is, when it comes back to the lungs, it does not give up carbon Dioxide, nor does it take on Oxygen. To all intents and purposes, that part of the blood tainted with Carbon Monoxide is useless. Therefore, if you inhale enough Carbon Monoxide, you will so totally die.

There were some boys running a cybercafe in Lagos, who were behind on the rent. So they locked up and blacked out, so the landlord wouldn't know they were inside while they worked. They had to run their generator, so they brought it indoors with them.
Come morning, they were all dead.

I've seen someone (a kid) fall asleep at the meal table before. Unless they knew what was happening, they might not be especially alarmed. So, before any of them thought to do something, they could have all lost consciousness within seconds of one another and died. What's wrong with this theory is that the victims were of different ages, so that someone should have left the table and tried to help the others or escape, or something. That's why poison in the food is looking so good as suspect.

Tragedy struck in the sleepy town of Umunneukwu ,in Eziokwe Amuri community of Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu state last Thursday, when seven members of one family reportedly died in their sleep after celebrating a traditional feast.
Informed sources told THISDAY that the seven members of the family who lost their lives in the mysterious incident were the family head, Mr. Sunday Eneh, his wife and two children as well as his aged mother and two cousins.

Sympathizers from the village and neighbouring towns who thronged the Eneh family compound Friday morning following the alarm raised by some neighbours who had discovered the lifeless bodies could not believe what they saw as they wept uncontrollably just as the entire village was thrown into confusion.

Sources said, Mr. Afemefuna Eneh, elder brother of the deceased, who rushed from his Enugu residence to the village after he was alerted of the ugly development on phone, said the cause of their death could not be immediately ascertained even though some people feared that their mysterious death may not be unconnected with the inhalation of carbon-monoxide from their generator.

He stated that his elder brother had on Thursday evening celebrated a traditional feast in which he killed a fowl to appease their late father after which the family members went to bed hale and hearty.
His words: “After I was called on phone by our relations, I rushed to the village and on getting to their room I saw all members of the family lying down. They were all dead. I saw the generator which they said was on that night but I don’t think that their death was caused by generator fumes”.

“The family had been living a healthy life until Thursday night and there was a kind of traditional feast my elder brother (Sunday) celebrated in which he killed a fowl to appease our late father. That was celebrated Thursday night and everybody went to bed thereafter but the next morning (Friday) all members of the family could not wake up from their bed and nobody can explain what really happened for now. It is very pathetic.”

The Chief Medical Director of Agbani District Hospital , Dr. Alphonsus Eze, certified the bodies dead before they were taken to a mortuary at Agbani. He however stated that autopsy investigations would commence without delay in order to assist in unraveling the cause of the sudden death of the family of seven.

The Police Public Relations Officer for Enugu State Command, Mr. Ebere Amaraizu confirmed the incident saying the police had commenced investigations to unravel the mystery surrounding their death.
