Well it finally looks like a government may finally pass a law that could actually try to protect women from domestic violence.

French law would tag violent spouses

The French government has passed a bill that gives judges the power to evict violent spouses from the home and fit them with electronic security bracelets.

The bill, passed unanimously Thursday night in France's National Assembly, is part of the country's stepped-up effort to tackle domestic violence.

"The electronic tags will allow us to watch violent mates and prevent them from getting within 400 metres of their potential victims," said Nadine Morano, the junior minister for family affairs.

Morano said the tags are going to be used experimentally in three regions to test their effectiveness.

The bill must next go before the French senate, but it's expected to become law in June.

French Prime Minister Francois Fillon said the new law "will allow people to take into account the most insidious situations, which don’t leave a mark to the naked eye but can mutilate the victim’s inner self," the New York Times reported.

The government has also launched a new public information campaign about the issue.

Do you think this will help protect women from domestic violence?
