Tottenham's defeat to Monaco last month ensured the club could not progress beyond the Champions League group stages.
Mauricio Pochettino's side still have Europa League football to play for, but the impressive Premier League form of Liverpool and Chelsea - two sides playing without the added stress of European football - means a lighter fixture list may be tempting for the Spurs coach.
However, Uefa's recent rule change which sees the Europa League winners automatically qualify for the Champions League has added a real incentive to go all the way in the competition.
If Spurs avoid defeat against CSKA Moscow at Wembley on Wednesday they will qualify for Europe's secondary club competition.
TEAM NEWS
Pochettino is expected to field a weakened team given his side are already out of the Champions League. Should they secure the point needed to progress to the Europa League, it will present more opportunities for the Argentine to blood youngsters with first-team focus on the Premier League.
Toby Alderweireld is expected back imminently, but Ben Davies, Erik Lamela and Vincent Janssen all remain sidelined. The foursome are not expected to feature at Wembley.
POSSIBLE STARTING LINEUPS
Tottenham: Lloris; Tripper Vertonghen Carter-vickers Rose; Dier Sissoko; Onomah Winks Alli; Kane
CSKA Moscow: Akinfeev, Fernandes, Berezutski, Berezutski, Schennikov, Natkho, Golovin, Tosic, Chalov, Milanov, Traore
HEAD-TO-HEAD
Tottenham's 1-0 victory over CSKA Moscow earlier in this season's Champions League group stages is their only previous meeting.
