I’m A Prostitute, Woman Confesses In Court

There was a mild drama at the Cele Magistrate’s Court, Isolo, Lagos when a 25-year old woman was asked her line of business and she described herself as a prostitute.

Her response made the magistrate, counsels and litigants to burst into laughter.

The woman, Peace Ofi, also told the court that she was the chairperson of prostitutes in Kings Hotels located at 22, Oladehinde Street, Ilasamaja, Mushin, Lagos.

Peace came to the court to testify as a witness against one of her colleagues, Gift Edet, who stabbed her with a broken bottle during fighting.

P.M.NEWS gathered that Peace was assaulted when she tried to settle a rift between Edet and another girl, identified as Ogechi, over a man.

The terms of  settlement did not go down well with Edet who seemed to have lost her boyfriend to Ogechi. In anger, she reportedly used a broken bottle to stab Peace all over her body during fighting. She bled and was rushed to a nearby hospital.

The matter was reported to the police at Itire station and she was arrested and charged before the court for assault, an offence contrary to Section 335 of the Criminal Code, Cap.38, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2004.

She pleaded guilty to the charge and appealed for leniency but the prosecutor urged the court to sentence him accordingly to serve as a deterrent to others.

The court, presided by Mrs. A. A. Adefulire found her guilty as charged and sentenced her to one-year imprisonment without an option of fine.
