Gambia’s Jollof Rice has been rated over Nigeria’s Jollof Rice in a new competition held as part of the Jollof Festival in Ghana over the weekend.
The Jollof Rice competition was organised by the Ghana Tourism Authority, GTA, seeing Gambia’s Jollof as the winner of the competition.
The competition featured representatives from countries including Ghana, Gambia, Nigeria and Senegal as part of the “See Ghana, Eat Ghana, Wear Ghana, and Feel Ghana” campaign which was organised by the GTA under the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts to promote local tourism on a global scale.
The Gambian Jollof Rice which emerged the best at the competition was prepared without tomatoes and instead with mustard, fish and other ingredients which made the final product turn out yellowish-white in color as compared to the Ghana Jollof which was prepared using tilapia, tomatoes and other ingredients and with a final reddish colour.
The Nigerian and Senegalese chefs however fell behind as their food was not rated high enough in the competition.
The judges of the day were drafted from Mexico and the Netherlands, and reportedly based their judgement and rating on presentation, aroma and taste of the final product.
The lead judge, Mr Jan van der Veer, while speaking to the GTA said the Gambians had “a fine presentation and a better taste for their jollof as compared to that of Ghana, Nigeria and Senegal.”

Africa still has a long way to go. I think we can be truly civilise by the year 3500 AD. The rest of the world are competing for Innovation and Technology  while  the so called Giant of Africa...Nigeria is competing for who cooks the best Jollof Rice.
Is it a Curse to be Nigerian...Oh God?!
