Primate Nicholas Okoh, has lamented over the rise in homosegxwality in Nigeria which according to him is “veritably poisoning” the Nigerian society.
In the interview with NAN, the Primate of the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, said the advent of satellite broadcasting has continued to pose a serious challenge to our traditional cultures, religious values and our identity as a people.
According to Primate Nicholas Okoh, anti-social behaviours that used to be tackled are no longer tackled all because of modernisation; essentially, people are destroying themselves.
“Homosegxwality hinders the progress of a nation and such ungodly images should never be shown in Nigeria. It is pertinent to note that the advent of satellite broadcasting has continued to pose a serious challenge to our traditional cultures, religious values and our identity as a people. Our youths are now being deceived by the international media with values that are at variance with our culture and the teachings of our religion,” he said
”What is happening in the Nigerian society is a result of international influence and urbanisation. As people move from villages to the cities, they are detached from their ancestral authority, parents, chiefs and others. Anti-social behaviours that used to be tackled are no longer tackled all because of modernisation; essentially, people are destroying themselves” he said
Recall that few days ago, former Governor of Cross River State and Presidential aspirant, Donald Duke, clarified the homosegxwality comment credited to him while on a recent interview with Falz and Laila on the viral show ‘On The Couch’.
Donald Duke who disclosed how he intends to lead the country on the show, disclosed that he won’t criminalize gay people. He reportedly said;
“I don’t understand the emotional feelings a gay person would have toward someone of their segxwality. I don’t understand it. But I would not criminalize them. I would ensure that they have the protection of the law. But if they want to exhibit their segxwality, then that’s an affront on the current norms of society.”
However reacting the statement which generated controversy, Donald Duke alleged that he was taken out of context and that ‘Homosegxwality is a crime in Nigeria and ought to remain so’.
