A Nigerian man who took to Facebook to lament over violation of his rights, disclosed that he was shot at 4 times for overtaking a company’s car in Rivers State.
According to the Nigerian man Tasie-Amadi Wenenda, the driver of the company’s car he overtook went on to ram his car twice. His post reads;
This is injustice
As strange as it sounds, i was just run off the road by a company driver and my tire shot at four times by a policeman escorting the car. The driver then went on to ram my car twice.
People have now gathered and their only explanation is that i overtook their car.
Few years ago also, Mr. Anthony Okeke, the son of an ex-police officer was beaten to stupor and detained for driving into the convoy of the Enugu state Governor, Sullivan Chime. He had unknowingly broken into the convoy of the governor with his vehicle at about 11.30pm on February 22, 2015 and the security details of the governor descended on him. It was gathered that the governor was just driving around that Sunday night around 11:40pm, in an unmarked vehicle followed by about four, unmarked vehicles, without the normal siren or fanfare that normally herald his movement.
Okeke, who had just dropped a friend in front of Fire Service Station, by Otigba Junction, Enugu, entered the road in front of one of the security vehicles following Gov Chime and immediately volleys of gunshots were fired that busted his vehicle tires Okeke, a sound engineer was detained with his vehicle for six days at the Anti-Kidnapping Base, Enugu before he was charged for attempt to kidnap the Governor of Enugu State, but the court declined jurisdiction on the matter and remanded him in prison custody, Daily Independent reports.
Following the continued unlawful detention of Okeke, a human rights organisation, Civil Rights Realisation and Advancement Network (CRRAN) is now demanding for justice. In a statement released by President of CRRAN, Olu Omotayo, the group noted that the incident could have at most attracted a warning but instead it was made a capital offence.
