So today, Ghana beat USA 2 - 1 in a very interesting soccer match in the world cup, which means Ghana proceeds to the quarter final stage and amongst the top 8 teams at the world cup.

The game was very interesting, because Ghana showed a high level of discipline and team spirit, though the fell out sometimes every now and then, but overall they showed why they are the best African team at the world cup and why it is only fair for most Africans to support them. The Ghanians trully outclassed the Americans with great passes and nice movement, though they were let down sometimes by selfish finishing, but again thats just something that could happen to anyone. The refree made very terrible officiating mistakes today, and noticeably was the funny penalty award to USA that enable them to snatch a cheap goal from the spot, teh Ghanians reaction to this was again superb - High level of sportmanship, they just played their game and forgot about the refree who seem to blow every diving the Americans made (I just cant believe he gave Ayew a yellow card for running beside Altadore who snapped his leg and fell without any contact with Ayew).

Even if Ghana dosnt go beyond the next round (which is very unlikely), they remain by far the best African team to be featured at the world cup this year, I hope other African teams will borrow a leaf from this experience and apply it to their soccer. Nigeria in particular is the BIGGEST dissapointment, Nigeria by no way deserve to be ranked before other African countries in FIFA ranking except for the success of our junior teams at the junior worldcup. With Nigeria only needing to win one match or better still score one goal to get to the next round - that was impossible, an indication of a premature team, clearly not ready for a worldcup competition. Players like Obasi needs to be mentored by Drogba or Asamoah Gyang on how to torment opposition defenders and most of all we need a soccer coach that has brains!

For the time being UP GHANA!

Long live Africa
