Hundreds of women in Jos, Plateau State, on Monday protested the presence of soldiers in the troubled state capital. The protesting women asked the Federal Government, to, as a matter of urgency, withdraw the soldiers from the state even as security situation in Jos and environs remained tense.

The women, clad in black uniform, chanted war songs as they marched within the city, accompanied by security agents to the Government House. They waved placards, some of which read, ‘Soldiers have a hidden agenda in Plateau.’ ‘Ninety per cent of soldiers here are Muslims. Why?; ‘We want peace, not Jihadists soldiers’; ‘Soldiers must go back to barracks’; ‘Soldiers are hired killers’.

They threatened not to vote for President Goodluck Jonathan if he failed to heed their call for the withdrawal of soldiers from the state.

The women, who included the young and the old, marched from Gada Biu through the Yakubu Gowon Way to Government House, Jishe, where they waited for hours for Governor Jonah Jang to address them.

Meanwhile, a battalion of the Nigerian soldiers arrived in Jos on Monday evening to take over from the officers and men of the Special Task Force on security in the city.

The soldiers arrived in 10 Marco Polo buses and were immediately taken to the headquarters of the STF in Jos.

It was not immediately known whether the STF commander, Brig Gen, Hassan Umaru, would be replaced.

One of the soldiers told our correspondent that the new soldiers were from various formations in the country. He said that more would be arriving the state on Tuesday (today) to replace those on ground.

The arrival of the soldiers sent jubilations around Bauchi road where residents marched to the streets saying that a state of emergency had been declared in the state. The news spread quickly as residents quickly rushed home for fear of fresh outbreak of crisis

They should have protested against the killings that was on-and-on at least ten years before the arrival of the JTF.

The true fact is Jos people invited trouble and it is consuming them little by little both Muslims and Christians. No one is safe, everyone is vulnerable. Muslim cannot enter Christians areas and vice versa. Was that the life they lived before? NO. They were living peacefully and harmoniously before. Muslims having Christian friends and vice versa. Now not only people residing in Jos, even the passersby (traveling passengers) fears to pass through Plateau State. THAT IS VERY BAD AND SO SAD!

It is a big injustice to blame only one side in this crises. It started long ago with one side being oppressed. But at that time, nobody dared to talk, everyone kept quite and turned his head away from it. That is how life is. You start trouble without you knowing how far it can go. It may reach the state that cannot be controlled by you and it may affect you so deeply as you never thought it could. One may not have enough water to quench the fire, but he still lit it. Kash!

Jos people should understand that the crises brings no peace no winner or looser. Killing one another in attacks and counter attacks can never solve the problem but  escalate it further. More lives are being lost everyday. IF YOU ASK A JOS MAN TODAY (MUSLIM OR CHRISTIAN) to tell you the truth that when is Jos a better place to live, NOW THAT THERE IS CONSTANT OUTBREAK OF FIGHTS OR BEFORE WHEN BOTH THE SO-CALLED INDIGENES AND THE SO-CALLED TENANTS LIVED TOGETHER PEACEFULLY? I believe his answer may be 'BEFORE'. So why cant we reverse things?
