Sources said Deeyah was abducted from his Gwara home in Khana, shortly after the postponement of the National Assembly elections.
One of his aides was killed by the kidnappers.
It was learnt that the ‘’boys’’ abducted him to extort money from him, in form of ransom, since he did not “settle” them.
Deeyah, the sources said, was being held in a forest in neighbouring Sii in same Khana Local Government.
The Ledum Mitee-led Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP) yesterday condemned the lawmaker’s kidnap and killing of his aide.
A source said: “Those who kidnapped Deeyah on Saturday evening at his Gwara village and killed his aide, are actually his boys, who were angry and felt betrayed that after working for him, he accepted bribe from Magnus Abe (ex-Rivers Secretary to the State Government (SSG) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP’s) candidate for Rivers Southeast).
“Abe is their enemy and Deeyah did not tell his boys that they have reconciled, so as to give them a part of Abe’s political windfall.”
The PDP lawmaker was kidnapped by armed masked men as he was returning from a meeting.
