Barack Obama proposed to a woman who rejected him not once but twice ... before he met Michelle -- this according to a new biography.
The woman is Sheila Miyoshi Jager. David Garrow, author of the new book, "Rising Star: The Making of Barack Obama," says Obama met Jager in the mid-'80s when he was doing community organizing in Chicago.

Jager, of Dutch and Japanese ancestry, told Garrow even back then, Obama had a strong belief he'd someday become President of the United States. She also told the author Obama had "a deep-seated need to be loved and admired."



She says in 1986 Obama asked her to marry him, but her parents were opposed because they thought she was too young. She said no, but they continued dating.
Then, Garrow says, Obama's presidential ambitions became a centerpiece of their relationship, causing a conflict because he worried a non-African-American spouse would do him political damage.


Garrow says he "felt trapped between the woman he loved and the destiny he knew was his."
Obama went to Harvard Law School in 1988 and the relationship was on the ropes, but Jager says Obama again asked her to marry him before he left, but she was off on a research trip to Seoul and rejected his proposal.
Obama fell for Michelle after their first year in law school but, according to Garrow, he was still occasionally seeing Jager.
As for Jager, she's a professor of East Asian Studies at Oberlin College. And there's this fun fact: Her book, "Iraqi Security Forces and Lessons from Korea" was on Osama bin Laden's bookshelf in the compound where Seal Team Six killed him.

The management of Modibbo Adama University of Technology in Yola, the Adamawa state capital, have declared wanted a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member serving in Zamfara State, identified as Fidelis Chalokwo, over N30m Univeristy school fees fraud involving 940 students.
According to a report by Naijapals, the 940 students of the institution risked being restrained from sitting for the second semester examination.
The affected students were considered ineligible by the bursary department of the university to sit for the examination because they had reportedly not yet paid their school fees.
Preliminary investigations by the Students Union Government of the institution on Tuesday into the N30m school fees fraud linked to Chalokwo, a former student of the university, reveals how he executed 70 per cent of the fraud.
“More than 70 per cent of the students swindled of their school fees said they paid to Fidelis Chalokwo, who is now performing his NYSC programme in Zamfara,” said Abubakar Lawan, the SUG Vice-President.
He added that Chalokwo who was wanted to account for his crime, claimed he had left the country. The SUG VP said the varsity believed the suspect was still in the country and in Zamfara.
The Dean, Student Affairs, MAUTECH, Yola, Dr. Haruna Lawan, said over N30m was involved, adding that most of the students, instead of using their Automated Teller Machine cards to make the payments, gave cash to the online vendors who turned out to be fraudsters.
He said the least of the school fees involved was N30,700, while other victims of the scams paid as much as N37,800 in school fees which never hit the school account.
However, Chalokwo, posting on his Facebook page, said the management of MAUTECH was trying to cover its ineptitude by using the 940 students to make up for its shortfall in revenues.
He dismissed any wrongdoing on his part.
He said, “The university should instead get the incompetent Flexisaf to account for the 940 failed registration rather than its current manhunt for me and my colleagues. But whatever you want to believe, please, note that my colleagues and I successfully paid your fees and registered for your courses for 2016 session.

A 12-year-old girl, yesterday, gave a startling revelation of how her father and his step-son allegedly took turns to rape her for seven months in Ilogbo area of Lagos.
She said it started with her father and his mistress holding her legs apart for the woman’s son to rape her.
At the moment, the victim, who was alleged to have been forced out of school while in Junior Secondary School 1, had been treated for several segxwally-transmitted diseases allegedly contracted during the said period.
Narrating how she was violated, the victim said;

Gistmania learned that after police and family members’ intervention, the suspect brought his daughter back home in December 2016. But her mother, who claimed to have been suspecting that all was not well with her daughter, subjected the latter to questioning, in the process of which she opened up.
The victim’s mother told Gistmania that she caught her husband with his manhood inside their daughter’s mouth when she was nine months. She said it happened again when the victim was six years.
Narrating how this latest development came to the fore, she said:

Asked why he took the child away from home, the suspect told policemen at the Human Right Desk, Ikotun Police Division, that his wife had a mental problem, adding that he had to take their daughter away from home to ensure her safety.
In a swift reaction, his wife described the claim as a lie, saying
She further disclosed that her husband’s action was only a ploy to chase her away from the house they both built so he can bring in his mistress and her children.

How is this even possible? A photo which has gone viral on social media platforms -shows a man getting high on alcohol with his pistol right in front of him. The man who was even seen mixing different brands of alcohol knew what he was doing as he posed well for the camera.
Online users are wondering what prompted him to do so considering how alcohol can affect the judgement of those with guns..

Operatives of Lagos State Task Force, yesterday, impounded 68 commercial motorcycles and arraigned 14 operators over illegal and criminal activities.
The 14 were then sentenced to 10-hour community service each at government (public) facilities.
The operation was carried out in the early hours around 2nd Rainbow and Mile 2 area of Oshodi-Apapa Expressway.
Chairman of the agency, SP Olayinka Egbeyemi, disclosed that illegal activities of the motorcycle operators and report of criminal activities against innocent members of the public prompted the actions of the agency.
He stated that suspects were indiscriminately plying restricted routes and robbing innocent members of the public of their valuables such as mobile phones, bags and wristwatches.
The Chairman added that Lagos State Road Traffic Laws of 2012 by Scheduled 1, Item 22 restricted motorcycle operators from plying 375 roads, which includes highways and bridges, across the state.
Egbeyemi noted that reports made to his office indicated that after the day’s work, the ubiquitous okadamen engage in criminal activities, robbing citizens particularly at Amuwo-Odofin area.
He confirmed that 14 of them were arraigned before Magistrate Lateef Owolabi of the Lagos State Mobile Court on the directives of the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Fatai Owoseni.
Meanwhile, the 14 pleaded guilty after prosecuting lawyers, Adedoyin Odukoya and Ajibola Olumide, read the one-count charge of “riding motorcycles on prohibited routes as against Schedule (1), Item 22 of the Lagos State Road Traffic Laws of 2012” to them.
Immediately after their plea was taken, Magistrate Lateef Owolabi confiscated the 68 impounded motor-cycles and sentenced them to a “10-hour community service” each at government (public) facilities.

It has been revealed that the Presidential Initiative for the North East (PINE) became a centre of misery entrepreneurship under the suspended Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, with companies raking in, through fraudulent procurement process, billions of Naira and paying kickbacks to the embattled cabinet secretary.
This was revealed through bank documents and the report of the Senate Committee on the Mounting Humanitarian Crisis in the North East, according to Gistmania
Gistmania had a rare access to the report which sums up the evidence the Senate submitted to the Yemi Osinbajo-led presidential investigative committee probing allegations of contract fraud and breach of due process against Mr. Lawal.
The report is due for presentation before the Senate this week.
PINE was established to help coordinate and lead efforts at rebuilding infrastructure and rehabilitate millions of victims of Boko Haram insurgency that has devastated Nigeria’s North East. About 100,000 people have died since the insurgency began in 2009, according to official figures.
As shown in the Senate report – with evidences of bank transactions as well as Central Bank of Nigeria, Corporate Affairs Commission and Bureau of Public Procurement documents –
Some of the beneficiaries paid parts of the proceeds of the contracts to Mr. Lawal’s company and his private account in tranches.
After receiving payments from PINE, at least five companies separately paid about N450 million to the Eco Bank account (182001809) of Rholavision Engineering Limited owned by Mr. Lawal according to CAC and self-admission, and his private account (0003004417) with Diamond Bank, bank statements showed.
According to a Naijapals confirmation attached to the report, Mr. Lawal was still the signatory to the account of Rholavision until February 15, 2017 which shares the same Bank Verification Number with his personal account and 13 other accounts in commercial banks.
The transfers were made in tranches, mostly N10 million per transaction, and N47 million on the last day.
For the “grass-cutting” contract, Mr. Lawal’s Rholavision was awarded the consultancy contract on March 8, 2016, while the owner was in the service of the government as federal cabinet secretary, in breach of Nigeria’s code of conduct for public officers and the Public Procurement Act.
But apart from that contract which formed the basis of the call by the Senate that Mr. Lawal be removed and prosecuted by President Muhammadu Buhari last December, the suspended SGF was also into other fraudulent deals with companies using PINE as conduit pipe.
Also Messrs Adamawa Boreholes and Drilling Companies Ltd transferred N18 million to Mr. Lawal’s company, after clinching N54.8 million contract to renovate seven classrooms at Yeskule Girls Secondary School, Michika Adamawa State.
Similarly, Barde Brothers Multi-Services Limited which was also awarded seven contracts to renovate classrooms in Adamawa State for N145 million returned N71 million to Mr. Lawal’s company account on October 10, 2016, and another N13 million between July 7, 2016 and September 9, 2016 to his private account.
Procurement Without Regard For Law
Between November 2015 and July 2016, the agency received over eight billion naira (N8,352,865,587), out of which N6.8 billion was expended on projects and N231.5 million on recurrent expenditures.
PINE, according to the report of the Senate committee, “awarded 39 contracts to various companies to carry out the removal of invasive plant species plants, rehabilitation/renovation works, food supplies, consultancy services and provision of shelter (supply of tarpaulin cabins) etc.”
But the committee found that all the contracts were “awarded under the principle of emergency procurement stipulated in section 43 (i) and (ii) but absolute disregard for sub-section (iii) of the same section 43 of the Public Procurement Act.”
The report added that PINE had no evidence of having the approval of the Federal Executive Council for contracts above N50 million as envisaged by the procurement law.
Mr. Lawal, now on suspension, is currently being probed by the presidential investigative committee.
But officials of PINE, especially the boss, Umar Gulani, may also face the wrath of the law.
During the public hearing of the Senate committee last year, Mr. Gulani could not account for how billions released to his agency were utilized.
As officials and their accomplices in the private sector stole funds meant for victims of war, over 400 thousand children face acute malnutrition in the North East, according to UNICEF, which says 134 children could die daily in the circumstance of no action.
“Some 65,000 people are in famine-like conditions, the worst level of food insecurity, and facing starving to death for lack of food. It is a very unique situation in the world,” UNICEF said.

Real cause of the fire outbreak at a section of the palace of the Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu has been revealed.
Gistmania gathered that the fire emanated from an air conditioner in the palace around 1.30pm, with smoke covering to the sky. The incident attracted a mammoth crowd to the royal abode.
Gistmania quoted a source as saying that Oba Akiolu was around when the incident happened.
He said the palace authorities did not want to speak to people on the fire.
He said, “The fire started around 1.30pm. The fire service arrived 1.50pm. Except the emergency officials, nobody was allowed to enter. The gate was shut. A lot of policemen were on the ground.
“The fire started from one of the air conditioners in the palace. I learnt the kabiyesi (Akiolu) was inside the palace when the incident happened.”
He said the palace gate was, however, shut to the crowd as firefighters from the Lagos State Fire Service, Sari Iganmu and Ilupeju stations, battled with the fire. It was eventually quenched around 3.30pm.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Olarinde Famous-Cole, who confirmed the incident, said that the situation had been brought under control.
He said, “The state and federal fire services, Julius Berger and United Bank for Africa fire services, as well as LASEMA, were on the ground. They put out the fire around 3.30pm. No life was lost.
“The Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, and other senior officers were also at the scene. Investigations are ongoing to ascertain the cause of the fire.”
The incident came barely one week after the Oba publicly shunned the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi.
There were claims by a certain Tunde Awoyeni that the palace would invoke the wrath of his ancestors on the Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu.

Nollywood actress Tonto Dikeh is taking her humanitarian service pledge more seriously than we could ever imagine.
The mother of one narrates how she saw a very strange and scary experience in Abuja yesterday while she was running errands.
In Tonto’s narration, right before her eyes, a young man was thrown out of a moving tricycle on a busy road in Abuja.
After saying words of prayer she made the move to help and save even though it appears the young man was lifeless.
It took the help of some other individuals for her to successfully take the victim to the hospital without losing him.
The victim on returning to life after great medical care paid for by Tonto Dikeh, narrates how he boarded the Keke Napep only for it to be the wrong one, his phone was taken and when money was not found on him, he was sprayed with a substance and pushed out of the moving tricycle.
According to the 23 year old man, his asthma made him pass out after the substance was sprayed.
Tonto Dikeh took care of the young man, fed and clothe him after paying for his hospital bills…
