| For how long shall we continue with this indiscriminate killing by police in nigeria. Could it that most of our policemen are possesed that , they do not have value on life. Or do we attribute this wild behaviour due to poor training, or recruitment of men who are not mentally sick into the force? I do think that, their should mental examination fot all the existing police officers, and those fit can only be shortlisted. | | |

| The case of bag sntching is fastly growing in nigeria. In some state, this has resuled to the abolishment of motor cycle transport. This is as serious as the armed Robbery. Here in malaysia, an indonesian was sentenced to death by a lady magistrate for snatching a jewelry from the neck of a lady.. You see there was public outcry on this, but when the magistrate was interviewed, She explained that, bag snatching or article snatching is as harmful as the armed robbery. She now gave instances of victims who died in an effort of the snatcher to snatch things from them. The most recent was the death of a husband and wife who died in an accident, when a set of robbers tried to snatch a bag from the wife and the draging caused the victims to hit an incoming lorry hich led to their death. So, am vigilantee can be appointed to monitor the activities of these gang of snatchers and forcefully bring it to an end. | | |

Forum / Health / Banana protects against AIDS Virus |
on: 16-03-2010 02:41 AM
| Bananas may hold the key to powerful new treatments that protect against the Aids virus. scientists found that a banana ingredient called BanLec was as potent as two existing anti-HIV drugs.
They believe cheap therapies based on BanLec have the potential to save millions of lives.
The ingredient is a lectin, a naturally occurring chemical in plants which fights infection.
Researchers in the US found that the lectin found in bananas can inhibit HIV infection by blocking the virus's entry into the body. BanLec acts on the protein "envelope" that encloses HIV's genetic material.
Lead author Michael Swanson, from the University of Michigan, said: "The problem with some HIV drugs is that the virus can mutate and become resistant, but that's much harder to do in the presence of lectins.
"Lectins can bind to the sugars found on different spots of the HIV-1 envelope, and presumably it will take multiple mutations for the virus to get around them."
The research is reported in the Journal of Biological Chemistry.

| Am beginning to find out why certain rights like freedom of speech are denied to citizens of certin countries. This is because, certain ersons lack wisdom and knowledge, or naturally are biased, prejudiced, and sterotype in issues that require fairness. I wonder why someone would wish to count against the efforts of these women in a peaceful manner to stop such indiscriminate kiling and unwanthom destruction of lifves and properties, irrespective of ethnicity or religion. Your reference is short sighted. You would have counted since the beginning of religious crises in nigeria rather than the case of 2003. Prior to 1991 riot in kano, christians were defenceless when attacked by the moslems. They were killed , properties destroyed as the run away to barracks for safety. But come 1991 riot in kano, the christians learnt that, attack is the best form of defence, and this is when retalitions began in moslem , christians dispute. peace loving nigerian women, i salute you. Keep it up and support your demonstration with prayers in churches and mosque. With God, the era or killing and lothing shall someday come to an end. | | | |
