SALT LAKE CITY — A Salt Lake City woman has been charged with offering her 13-year-old daughter’s virginity to a man for $10,000.

The 32-year-old woman was charged Monday in Utah’s Third District Court with two first-degree felony counts of aggravated sex abuse of a child and two second-degree felony counts of segxwal exploitation of a minor.

If convicted, the woman faces a lifetime prison sentence for each first-degree felony and a sentence of up to 15 years for each second-degree felony.

In court papers, prosecutors allege that the woman had discussed letting her daughter perform oral sex and other sex acts with an adult male. The negotiated offer and an arrangement to exchange the teen’s virginity for money were detailed in a string of text messages, which were seen by the woman’s boyfriend, who called police, court papers say.

In a police affidavit also filed with the court, investigators say the woman acknowledged the agreement and said she and the girl had been modeling lingerie for the man in a local store and at their home near the Utah State Capitol. Investigators say the woman said she had also taken pictures of her daughter wearing only a bra and skimpy thong underwear and sent them to another adult male.

In the same affidavit, the girl told police she initially agreed to the sex-for-money arrangement, but later told her mother that she did not want to go through with it.

The Associated Press is not naming the woman to avoid identifying the daughter.


No court dates have been set in the case and it wasn’t immediately clear if the woman had an attorney. The mother is being held in the Salt Lake County Jail. Bail is set at $250,000.

When I met my guy, he told me he did not like most American foods.  The first meal I cooked for him was Carribean food because I heard it was somwhat similar to African food.  He enjoyed it and told me he did not expect me to be a good cook.  I noticed that he put a lot of hot sauce on it so, I made sure to use plenty of hot pepper next time I cooked for him.  I searched online for Nigerian recipes and cooked them for myself until I was confident enough in the taste to cook it for him.  I was not too proud to ask him to teach me how to cook for him and enjoy spending time learning to cook the foods that he enjoys.

My advice is to let her know that you don't enjoy her cooking. If you can cook, spend a few days teaching her how to cook what you like.  Send her to your mom or someone who can teach her.  If she loves you, she will want to keep you happy and eating at home.  Just my humble opinion

Thank you for that information, I am happy to learn all I can about Africa, West Africa especially.  I did not mean to imply that Nigeria's resources were controlled by outside countries. I only tried to give examples of countries that have been, or are in danger of being exploited as a reason why Europeans are not really interested in developing Africa.  Before our economy crashed, many investment magazines have published articles advising people to consider investing in Africa. Only in the black publications do they speak about investments that will help Africa. 

In my humble opinion, Europeans will not develop Africa unless there is profit for them.  They can care less about Africa or Africans.  They exploit the greed that corrupts the leaders.  The so called superpowers do not want Africans to improve their situations.  There is no profit for them if Africans control their own natural resources. 

Africa has a large quantity of natural resources including oil, diamonds, gold, iron, cobalt, uranium, copper, bauxite, silver, petroleum.    Five countries dominate Africa's upstream oil production. Together they account for 85% of the continent's oil production and are, in order of decreasing output, Nigeria, Libya, Algeria, Egypt and Angola. Other oil producing countries are Gabon, Congo, Cameroon, Tunisia, Equatorial Guinea, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Cote d'Ivoire. Exploration is taking place in a number of other countries that aim to increase their output or become first time producers. Included in this list are Chad, Sudan, Namibia, South Africa and Madagascar while Mozambique and Tanzania are potential gas producers.  African agricultures are western-oriented, focusing on cocoa, coffee, banana, orange, yams, pineapples, and many non-native fruits and vegtables.  Exotic woods in Africa have been exploited for centuries, especially Ebony.  China controls over 40% of the oil production in the Sudan.  Africa produces 46 per cent of the world's chromium, 48 per cent of its diamonds, 29 per cent of its gold and 48 per cent of its platinum.

Please forgive me for copying and pasting these facts but there are many articles published here in the U.S. about Africa being a "gold mine" ripe for investment.  Not one word about investing to improve Africa's situation, just article after article talking about how much money can be made. 

If Africa had full control of it's natural resources, it would be THE superpower and we would be asking Africa to forgive our debt to you!!

 That man is a fame seeking idiot!!  Anyone who ever read the Quran knows that it is a beautiful book that teaches love and respect.  This man has no idea how much sufferring would have come down on him, his family and the 50 members of his 'church' if he had burnt the Quran.  He had to back away from it once the U.S. state deprtment let him know about the worldwide ramifications of going ahead with his stunt.  The majority of Americans do not agree with him and people like him who do not respect other religions.

All paths lead to God.  Respect is due. No matter what your beliefs, respect is due....

Someone looking for trouble will find it every time....If there is trust, she would not need to answer his phone.  Why answer if it is not a call for you?  When the trust is gone and there is a need to monitor him like that,  it is time to sit down and discuss the future of the marriage.

Have the qualities you are searching for in someone else.  If you want a man with money, have money of your own.  Be able to take care of your own bills, hair and travel.  You will be much happier when you can do it for yourself and a man will be much more willing to help you out when he sees that you are not dependent on him for everything.  He will also treat you better because he knows you don't NEED him.

She should be trying to send a better message to the young women who may look up to her.  That is a major problem with music videos here in the U.S.  They show half-dressed women, rap about getting head and sex with 2 or more women at once, call women bitches and idolize the strippers.  Since alot of young black men here have no father teaching them how to be a man, they look to the rappers to show them how to act.  The young girls look at the videos and think that is how they have to act to get a man. 

She should have more respect for herself than telling Nigeria that her love is for sale to the highest bidder.

Being independent does not mean you can not be submissive.  A man needs to feel like a man.  He needs to make the decisions and run his household.  That does not mean a woman has to bow down to him, and it does not mean he has to rule with an iron fist. 

This is so sad.   South Carolina offer FREE birth control to any woman who can not afford it.  All they have to do is ask.  There are too many young girls who think having a baby is fun and games  and will keep them with the child's father.  More often than not, that father did not grow up with his father so he does not see anything wrong with abandoning his child.  The mother is left taking care of that child on her own.  She gets with a different man and has his child thinking that one will stick around.   By the time she realizes  that she needs to get her life together, she has 2,3,4 kids with 2,3,4 different fathers and understands that a decent man does not want a woman with so many kids by different men.

Those kids suffered not only when she was killing them, but long before that.  I suspect she has been feeling trapped for a long time and may have been taking out her frustration on those kids.  Those poor babies never had a chance with her as a mother.   I cried for those kids. I pray that woman goes to jail for the rest of her life. 

I like very dark skinned men. I could never be attracted to a white man!

The media here only paints one picture of Africa: war, poverty, hunger, corruption, greed and disease.  That is the only image most African Americans have.  There are no positive images of Africa.  African history is not taught in elementary or high school.  There are just a few pages in the history books talking about slavery.  African Americans know all about European history.  I grew up believing that Africans did not consider us African  and laughed at us for calling ourselves African American.  I took it upon myself to learn more about African history and to become aware of the issues relevant to Africans. That is where it starts,  we can not depend on someone else (Whites) to teach us our history.  We have a duty to learn all we can and teach others. 

Naijapals has become a good place for me to come and learn about what issues are important to young Nigerians  but it has been very hard finding sites like this for youth in other African countries.  If you know of any other sites like this, please let me know.
