Well, technically a Catholic can marry a muslim. There is no law in the Catholic that forbids that- this marriage is called in technical terms Disparity of Cult ( Both parties will have to see the Bishop of the Catholic diocese they want to get marry in and declare their intention. He is the only one that gives the authority for such marriage). The marriage in the Catholic Church is a sacrament. There are 3 form of marriage types- marriage btw two catholics, marriage btw a catholic and a Christian non Catholic (called mixed marriage) and the last marriage btw a catholic and a non Christian. The Catholic party will have to sign an undertaking saying he/she will remain a catholic and will have the kids baptised. The muslim party will have to sign an undertaking that he/she will respect the catholic party's freedom of religion. In practical terms both party are allowed to function but there are implications. The catholic marries the muslim to be the only one while the muslim if a man is entitle according to the details of his religion to marry more than one. The children as well are cut btwn both parents religion. Personally I believe both can function if they put love and respect for the individual into their relationship. The children as they grow will actually decide where they want to be. My humble contribution. |
