According to a report by The Nation, a driver, who was over speeding on Thursday, hit an official of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) on the Third Mainland Bridge.
 Kehinde Sonaike, a senior traffic law enforcement officer from Zone 11, landed inside the lagoon.
 He was rescued by four fishermen.
 The incident occurred around 11am near Adekunle, Lagos Mainland.
 The driver, realising the gravity of his action, ran away with his vehicle.
 The Nation learnt that Sonaike was assisting a motorist, whose sport utility vehicle (SUV) broke down, before he was hit.
 The LASTMA car 058 with number plate RTM 165 LA was damaged in the process. The windscreen was shattered and the driver’s and passenger’s sides behind the driver were damaged.
 Sonaike was taken to Gbagada General Hospital, Gbagada where he was stabilised. He was later taken to LASTMA Clinic in Oshodi.
 
The senior traffic law enforcement officer told The Nation that he was going to Adekunle from Iyana-Oworonsoki on patrol when he saw a man with his broken down vehicle.
 
Sonaike said:
LASTMA General Manager Olawale Musa decried the action of the driver.
 According to him, but for God who made the fishermen to rescue Sonaike, the agency would have been in another mourning mood.
 He said the LASTMA official is responding to treatment.

Addressing newsmen in Katsina yesterday, spokesman for the state police command, Gambo Isah, in a statement described the efforts being made to rescue the district head.
Isah said, “Yesterday, 1/05/2019 at about 7.10pm, unknown bandits numbering about six, shooting into the air, stormed the residence of Magajin Garin Daura, Alhaji Musa Umar, in a Peugeot 405, unregistered, blue in colour and abducted him while sitting on a bench outside his residence, to unknown destination.
“The Commissioner of Police, Katsina State Command, Sanusi Buba, along with police patrol teams immediately arrived at the scene.
“Police patrol teams at Kusada Division of Katsina State intercepted the hoodlums and engaged them in a gun duel and as a result of which one Inspector Muntari Maikudi attached to Kusada Division sustained gunshot injury and was rushed to Federal Medical Centre, Katsina for treatment.
“IGP Tactical Squad, SARS teams, PMF and counter-terrorism units have already been dispatched to rescue the victim alive and safely to his family.
“The Command enjoins members of the public to always assist the security agencies with timely and actionable intelligence on the activities of these bandits.
“Be rest assured that the Command and, indeed, other security agencies, are on their toes to bring to an end the activities of these bandits.”
Security has been beefed up throughout Daura town, while makeshift speed breakers have been erected along surrounding towns, including Shargalle, Mashi and Kayauki.
The Sarkin Labarun Daura, Usman Ibrahim, said the family and the emirate council would not talk now in order not to jeopardise the safety of the district head.
Meanwhile, Special Assistant to the President on Social Media, Lauretta Onochie, revealed on her twitter handle yesterday that the police in Katsina have arrested suspects connected with the kidnap of Umar.
“Police in Katsina State said the suspects, in connection with the abduction of Magajin Garin Daura, Alhaji Musa Uba, who was abducted on Tuesday evening at his residence, have been arrested,”

The South-east Zonal Office of EFCC, on Wednesday, May 1, 2019, arrested 37 suspected internet fraudsters in Owerri, Imo State.
The arrest followed a raid on some targeted residences in Okwu Urata, Aladinma and Egbu areas.
The Commission’s action followed intelligence report which pointed that the suspects were living lavish lifestyles without any known means of livelihood, alleging further that they specialize in defrauding unsuspecting victims, through the internet.

In the course of executing the search warrants, items which included laptop computers, 25 five exotic cars, which include several brands of Mercedez-Benz, Lexus,Toyota and expensive mobile phones, were recovered.
Speaking on the development, the ZonalHead, Usman Imam, who said the exercise was in line with the Commission’s mandate decried the high rate of cybercrime in the zone which he blamed on the erosion and breakdown of country’s values.




“It is true that no society has been able to totally eradicate crime, but we are ready at least to reduce it to the barest minimum and it appears that this cybercrime is one of the challenges of our time, which the EFCC is willing to face drastically,” Imam said.
.Questioning the lifestyle of the suspects, Iman said; “What is the business of a university student, a new graduate or youth corper looking for money to buy a car of N10 million? Obviously, this is rushing life and a collapse of our positive value system where people rarely want to start from a humble beginning,” Imam added.
Usman lamented that if nothing was done, the country’s leadership could be jeopardized as many youths involved in cybercrimes are expected to take up leadership positions in the future.
The suspects who volunteered their statements under caution will be charged to court as soon investigations into the matter are concluded.

A Nigerian man has reportedly lost his life in an unfortunate incident following a raid by security operatives in Malaysia.
The deceased popularly known as Zuby – was said to have fallen from twelve storey building while trying to evade the Malaysian authorities and escape to another apartment during raid on Nigerians living in the country without proper documents. .
He was reported to have died on the spot as his corpse has since been deposited in a mortuary.




It was gathered that many other Nigerians were arrested by the authorities over their illegal immigration status.

Congratulations are in order for rapper Future as he welcomes his sixth child. Instagram model Eliza Reign shared a photo of herself holding her newborn earlier today as she wrote out a lengthy caption detailing hey joy from giving life to her daughter.

The Saudi Arabian government has released Ibrahim Abubakar, the Nigerian arrested alongside Zainab Aliyu, to the Nigerian Consulate in Jeddah.  
Abubakar, who was arrested for the same offence as Zainab, was released to Garba Satomi Grema, the acting Consul-General, Nigerian Consulate, on Thursday in line with the previous promise of Saudi Arabia.  
On Tuesday, the Nigerian government secured the release of Zainab, the student of Maitama Sule University, Kano, who was arrested and had been in detention since December when a banned drug, tramadol, was found in her bag on arrival in Saudi Arabia.



Her continued detention sparked widespread sympathy all over the country, on the back of claims that she was innocent and only fell victim to a drug cartel at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano, that specialises in keeping hard drugs in travellers’ bags.  
Ambassador Mustapha Suleiman, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, confirmed that the Nigerian government had succeeded in establishing Zainab's innocence.   It also confirmed that Abubakar, the second Nigerian involved in the case, would be released to the Nigerian Mission in Saudi Arabia on Wednesday.

A lone United Conservative Party, UCP, lawmaker in Edmonton, Madu won in one of the closest races in the provincial election, garnering 7,742 votes to beat his competitors: John Archer of the New Democrat Party, NDP, who polled 6,974 votes; Mo Elsalhy of the AP with 2,111 votes; Marilyn Burns of the AAP who polled 178 and Rigel Vincent of the GPA with 108 when 62 of 64 polls reported.
The significance of his victory is underscored by the fact that Edmonton remains solidly orange, an opposition column.
When Madu won the UCP nomination in December 2018 defeating fellow party members Sohail Quadri and Kevin Greco, the then party leader, Jason Kenney, who also took oath of office on Tuesday as Alberta Premier, issued a statement extolling the candidate.

According to reports, the female students were made to undergo test during an investigation into an abandoned foetus that was found in one of the hostels.
Reports says that the foetus, which is about 6 months old was discovered on Saturday at about 6am. A 100-Level student of History and International Relations was the first person to stumble upon the foetus before she reported to other students and security officials.

The Chief Security Officer (CSO) of the school, Major Tete Kudu (rtd), the Dean of Students’ Affairs (DSA), Dr Musa Ma’ali, as well as a nursing staff working at the university clinic, began an interrogation into the case causing for the female students to undergo medical tests to ascertain who the culprit is.

Prof. Segun Ajiboye, the Registrar of Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), says the body has commenced efforts to return teachers displaced by insurgency in the North East Zone to the classrooms.
Ajiboye said in Ibadan that TRCN would re-motivate and change the psyche of the traumatised teachers to encourage them to return to the classrooms.
He further stated that some of the teachers who were in the zone had lost their certificates in the crisis, adding that the council had restored them.
“Actually, it is disheartening; we are affected and we can’t pretend.
“We have lost so many teachers to insecurity especially in the North-East. it created trauma, pupils left schools and they don’t want to come back.
“The teachers themselves left because of what had happened to their colleagues.

“What we are doing is to bring back our teachers especially in the North-East. A lot of interventions are going on to re-motivate them and change their psyche.

”So many of them left the teaching profession; they don’t want to come back but now sanity is returning and our teachers are coming back.
“Some of them lost their certificates to insurgency,” he said.
On the deadline to register as professional teachers, Ajiboye disclosed that full enforcement against unregistered and unlicensed teachers would begin in January 2020.
The TRCN boss said that any teacher not registered by the council as at Dec. 31, 2019 would not be allowed to practise in Nigeria.

According to him, a letter of reminder is being sent to the Commissioners of Education and the Education Secretary in the Federal Capital Territory on the need to ensure that practising teachers in their states get valid licence before the deadline.
“That deadline stands. In fact, the Minister of Education has directed that TRCN should do a letter to Commissioners of Education and Education Secretary in the FCT to remind them about the deadline.

“By December 2019, anyone not registered and licensed by TRCN may may not be allowed in our classrooms.
