The Governor of Imo state, Ikedi Ohakim, has been accused of flogging Mr. Ikenna Samuelson severally with horsewhip popularly referred to as koboko.

The governor was said to have ordered the arrest of Samuelson who was taken to his office by his security aides over a petition he wrote against Ohakim

Samuelson allegedly wrote several petitions to the state House of Assembly asking the law makers to probe the governor and his administration over alleged fraud.

Samuelson was also said to have pasted the petitions on the internet, an action which the governor felt disgracd him.

P.M.NEWS learnt from a letter sent to the governor by Lagos lawyer, Festus Keyamo, that governor Ohakim brought out the horse whip immediately the victim was brought into the office and started thrashing him for over 120 times in the presence of his Chief Security Officer, who also pointed a gun at him.

The victim, in an e-mail to Mr. Keyamo to help him fight the injustice, narrated how he was molested by the governor.

Samuelson said immediately he was ushered into the governor’s office, “the door was locked leaving me only with Ohakim and his CSO in the office. The CSO pointed his gun at me.

“Ikedi Ohakim on his own shouted at me to pull off my clothes completely. At that point I knew that I was in danger, so I played along. As I was removing my clothes, Ohakim stood up from the office chair and came to me and forcefully removed my clothes.

“Another young man of about 33yrs wearing an ash coloured suit came into the Governor’s office to assist Ikedi Ohakim completely remove my clothes. I became completely naked before Ikedi Ohakim in the office of the Governor.”

Samuelson further claimed that the governor thereafter went to his table and brought out the horsewhip after hitting him several times with his hands and legs and threatening to kill him.

“Ikedi Ohakim flogged, flogged and flogged me ruthlessly, heartlessly and without mercy. He kicked me several times without mercy.

“The pain was much. I cried, cried and called on Almighty God to come to my rescue. I must have received well over 120 strokes of koboko.

“My blood completely stained the rug in the Governor’s office. I was in pains. I saw hell with my two eyes.

“Ikedi Ohakim continued to flog me. His brother Emma Ohakim walked in and said ‘Chineke, His Excellency, His Excellency’.

“Ikedi Ohakim said to his brother ‘Emma, this is Ikenna Samuelson. I will kill him today’. Emma simply left the office.”

He said when the pains became unbearable, he grabbed Ikedi Ohakim’s legs and pleaded with him reminding the governor that they were in-laws.

“He then shifted a chair and sat down with the koboko still in his hands,” he said adding that the governor started to shout, “Samuelson you have disgraced me in this country. You have finished me. I will kill you and nothing would happen.”

He claimed that the governor asked him to mention the names of his sponsors, which he denied having.

Samuelson said he was later handed over to the state Commissioner of Police and the state Director of the State Security Service.

In a letter sent to the governor by Mr. Keyamo, the lawyer threatened to use every legal means possible to ensure that justice was done.

Keyamo said: “I know it is so convenient for politicians like you to quickly point to ‘political enemies’ when you are publicly engaged on thorny issues.

“But you cannot bath with petrol and stay close to fire when your enemies are around. In other words, you also have a duty to act decently and in tandem with the laws of the land so as not to arm your political opponents.

“Chief Ikedi Ohakim, you may think that because you enjoy immunity under the constitution, you may get away with this kind of atrocity.

“But your immunity is only temporary. And there are other measures to bring you to book, even now!

“Consequently, we are sending this open letter to the House of Assembly, Imo State, as notice to them of your barbaric actions, and to see if they can muster forth the courage and political will to investigate you and commence impeachment proceedings against you.”

He also informed the governor that copies of the letter would be forwarded to the Inspector General of Police and the SSS to investigate him and keep the report pending when he would be striped of immunity.

“I also intend to test the law as to how far we can take the concept of immunity vis-à-vis the commission and/or perpetration of such heinous crimes by a sitting public officer ringed with immunity. Thus expect my court papers soon!

”Should all of these fail, I wish to inform you that I will patiently wait for you to climb down from your Olympian height as Governor (no matter how long it takes) to begin civil and criminal proceedings against you,” the letter stated reminding the governor that Samuelson was taken away and on his orders, detained for weeks, charged to court and remanded in Owerri Prisons!

“The charges are as ridiculous as the physical assault in you office. The eight-count charge accused Samuelson of publishing “falsehood” and thereby “bringing the Imo State Governor into public ridicule and hatred!” Keyamo maintained.

This is not the first time a Nigerian would be so treated by a sitting governor. In the 1970s, a journalist, Chris Amakiri, who wrote a story on former military governor Diete Spiff, had his head shaved with broken bottle.

He was said to have written a story against the governor on the day he was marking his birthday, which the governor did not find interesting. Spiff, who is now a royal father, promptly ordered the arrest of the journalist who was severely tortured before his head was shaven with a broken bottle.

'TRAUMATISED' OKOCHA WANTS IN @ KICKOFF.COM

Former Nigeria captain Austin Okocha says he was so 'traumatised' by the Super Eagles failure at the African Nations Cup that he has decided to run for a position on the executive committee of the Nigeria Football Federation.

"The last two weeks have been the most traumatic of my entire life in football. While I have always appreciated the immense passion Nigerians have for football and for our national teams when they are playing, the first lesson I learnt at the beginning of this last Nations Cup finals in Angola was that, as players, we are often the ones at the heart of the games.

“We clearly will never have enough understanding of how badly our performances on the field affect millions of our countrymen and women, especially when we don't play well," Okocha said on Wednesday.

"This last championship, being the very first time in 18 years of my career that I will not be part of the team as a player, afforded me the opportunity of knowing how critically important this game is to our collective growth and unity as a nation. For this reason, I have, along with a few former Eagles stars, decided that it is time we got more involved in seeking solutions to the problems facing our football development.

"Our recent experience has shown that those of us who have played the game at the highest levels for clubs and country must desist from just sitting on the sidelines and leaving the running of the sport to career civil servants and politicians," he added.

In declaring his candidacy, the former Enugu Rangers star said his vision was one of change.

"I have, on behalf of other concerned former national team players, decided to come out today and join my voice with those of millions of Nigerians in and out of the country, to affirm and spread the message that "Enough is Enough" of the maladministration and rot in Nigerian football; and that without any gainsaying: 'The time for change is now'.

"Ex-international players must be encouraged to take up the reins of leadership in our football and inject their knowledge of how the game is administered in Europe and the advanced world into our game as well as other vital sectors of our national life like oil, security, politics, banking, medicine, law, among others.

"From now onward, we must put our best legs forward both on and off the pitch and return Nigeria to her front position in African football. Time for that change is now," he said.

NATIONAL Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Vincent Ogbulafor, yesterday, urged Vice President Goodluck Jonathan to wait for God’s intervention as power belongs to God.
This is coming on the heels of repeated calls by eminent Nigerians, Civil Society organizations, media chiefs and other bodies across the country, that President Umaru Yar’Adua, who has been away in Saudi Arabia on medical attention, in the last 73 days, should properly hand over power to Vice President Jonathan in acting capacity.
Ogbulafor, in a statement titled “Goodwill message from the Peoples’ Democratic Party to the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, GCON,” said: “Furthermore, the words of the Holy Scripture in Psalm 62:11 are apt for this moment, that ‘God has spoken once, twice, I have heard this: That power belongs to God.’”
In the statement which was delivered by Prince Vincent Eze Ogbulafor at the Presidential Villa on behalf of the party, the national chairman said the party was praying for the full recovery of President Yar’Adua, “so that he can return and rejoin his team to realize the lofty goals he has set to achieve for our dear country.”
Part of the statement read: “Permit me, Your Excellency to, on behalf of the National Working Committee, the National Executive Committee and the entire members of the PDP to convey to you our fraternal greetings, immense goodwill and solidarity.
“We wish to place on record our deepest satisfaction with the manner you have steered the ship of state in the absence of his Excellency, the President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, Alhaji Umaru Yar’Adua, GCFR. Your Excellency, like all Nigerians from different spheres of life, we have been keenly following events and developments in the country since the departure of Mr. President for medical attention.
Throughout this period, you have demonstrated patriotism and an enviable measure of loyalty and statesmanship. You have, through exemplary selflessness held the government and the country together in spite of the mischief of a few.
“We are particularly delighted with the prompt manner you handled the crisis in Jos, Plateau State. We also wish to appreciate your prompt response, on behalf of the government of Nigeria, to the tragedy in Haiti. We wish to, once again, commend you for doing everything possible to ensure the smooth functioning of the affairs of government.
“You have discharged your duties in the absence of Mr. President with distinction. We are proud that you have refused to be distracted by needless debates and controversies originating from some of our opponents. We maintain our earlier assertion that with you effectively on the saddle, there is no vacuum in the Presidency.
On behalf of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, I pledge our unalloyed support to you as you continue to steer the ship of our nation. You can count on our support in this regard at all times. Furthermore, the word of the Holy Scripture in Psalm 62:11 is apt for this moment, that ‘God has spoken once, twice I have heard this: That power belongs to God’”.
The hierarchy of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, was, last night, locked in a closed door meeting with PDP senators in a move directed at breaking the Senate’s resolve that President Umaru Yar’Adua transmit a letter of his medical vacation to the National Assembly.
Last night’s meeting was scheduled ahead of today’s appearance before the Senate by the Special Adviser to the President on National Assembly Matters, Senator Mohammed Abba Aji.
Vanguard learnt that Senator Abba Aji is expected to explain his side of the briefing given to the Senate by Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Alhaji Yayale Ahmed that President Yar’Adua indeed prepared a letter on his vacation which was hijacked.
PDP moves to check Senate
The meeting of the PDP Senate caucus with the PDP national working committee was announced by President of the Senate, Senator David Mark at the beginning of yesterday’s plenary session.
Though Senator Mark did not give the agenda for the meeting, Vanguard gathered that the meeting, which is at the initiative of the PDP NWC, was aimed at softening the stance of the PDP dominated Senate on the absence of the President. President Yar’Adua who has been out of the country for more than 73 days was, penultimate Wednesday, urged, through the Senate’s unanimous resolution, to transmit a letter of his medical vacation to the National Assembly in accordance with section 145 of the Constitution.
The PDP has 91 members in the 109 Senate, with majority belonging to the 80 member Nigeria Interest Group, NIG, which spearheaded the Senate resolution. Last night’s meeting, it was gathered, sought to stave the resolve of the NIG senators to forge ahead with further action against President Yar’Adua next Wednesday.
Though no ultimatum was given in the resolution to the President, members of the NIG are, however, believed to have quietly agreed on a maximum of two weeks before taking further actions against the ailing President.

Beware of older men - they only get wiser!

A woman decides to have a facelift for her 50th birthday..

She spends $15,000 and feels pretty good about the results.

On her way home, she stops at a newsstand to buy a newspaper.
Before leaving, she says to the clerk, 'I hope you don't mind my asking, but
How old do you think I am
'About 32,' is the reply.'
'Nope! I'm exactly 50,' the woman says happily

A little while later she goes into McDonald's and asks the counter girl the
Very same question.
The girl replies, 'I'd guess about 29.'
The woman replies with a big smile, 'Nope, I'm 50.'

Now she's feeling really good about herself. She stops in a drug store on her way down the street.
She goes up to the counter to get some mints and asks the clerk this burning question.
The clerk responds, 'Oh, I'd say 30.'
Again she proudly responds, 'I'm 50, but thank you!'

While waiting for the bus to go home, she asks an old man waiting next to her the same question.
He replies, 'Lady, I'm 78 and my eyesight is going. Although, when I was young there was a sure-fire way to tell how old a woman was. It sounds very forward, but it requires you to let me put my hands under your bra.
Then, and only then can I tell you EXACTLY how old you are.'

They wait in silence on the empty street until her curiosity gets the best of
Her.
She finally blurts out, 'What the hell, go ahead.'

He slips both of his hands under her blouse and begins to feel around very
Slowly and carefully.
He bounces and weighs each Bosom  and he gently pinches each nipple.
He pushes her Bosom s together and rubs them against each other.
After a couple of minutes of this, she says, 'Okay, okay....How old am I?'

He completes one last squeeze of her Bosom s, removes his hands, and says, 'Madam, you are 50.'

Stunned and amazed, the woman says, 'That was incredible, how could you tell?'

The old man says, 'Promise you won't get mad?
'I promise I won't' she says.

'I was behind you at McDonalds.'  Grin
