| For Immediate Release December 10, 2009 United States Attorney's Office Northern District of Texas Contact: (214) 659-8600 Ft. Worth Couple Charged with Holding Nigerian Woman in Domestic Servitude
WASHINGTON—A federal grand jury has indicted a Ft. Worth, Texas husband and wife, Emmanuel and Ngozi Nnaji, on charges of engaging in a nine-year scheme to compel the labor of a Nigerian victim as their domestic servant, the Justice Department announced today.
According to the seven-count indictment returned late yesterday, which charges the defendants with conspiracy, forced labor, document servitude, alien harboring, and false statements, Emmanuel Nnaji and Ngozi Nnaji enticed a widowed Nigerian mother of six to come to the United States to be their domestic servant by falsely promising a salary and support for her children, who she was struggling to support.
The indictment alleges that the defendants procured fraudulent immigration documents, confiscated the victim’s documents, harbored her in their home, compelled her to work long hours with no days off for little or no pay, used a scheme to isolate her and restrict her communications, withheld her documents and pay, and refused her requests to return home or be paid. The indictment also alleges the defendants failed to provide support for the victim’s six children in Nigeria, limited and monitored contact with her family in Nigeria, isolated her from normal society in the United States, and refused to allow her to regularly attend church. The indictment alleges Emmanuel Nnaji segxwally assaulted the victim and made her fearful to call the police.
If convicted, Ngozi and Emmanuel Nnaji each face a maximum sentence of up to 55 years in prison. An indictment is merely an allegation and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty. Ngozi Nnaji, a Nigerian national, faces deportation following conviction on any of the charged felonies.
This case is being investigated by the FBI and prosecuted by Trial Attorney Susan French of the Civil Rights Division’s Human Trafficking Prosecution Unit.

on: 11-12-2009 01:39 PM
| We all love our dear country,Nigeria. But if we must move forward,we should not allow sentiments to override sincere judgment. The level of unchecked corruption in Nigeria is appalling and unprecedented on earth.Every nation and even the United State fight corruption on a daily basis with every genuine machinery of government. Just subscribe to the FBI newsletter and you will be amazed at the calibre of people being sent to jail in America. In Nigeria, jail and other correctional facilities are reserved for the common man.No high level official can be jailed. At worse,if the crime attracts too much attention,a mock trial, ridiculous jail term and sometimes, plea bargain is used to diffuse public outrage. Thank God for posterity and death. At least, all these are for a while. Long live Nigeria! | | |

| God purnish all those who think stripping is a better profession to engaged in. How would they feel if their mothers leave their metromonial homes and go to clubs and stripped naked just to feed them or pay their school fees. I think anybody who is supporting this kind of attitude most have come from a bad home period!!
Young man,I don't think you really understand the subject matter. | | |

| These politicians need to be properly educated on how to operate in a genuine democratic society. They find it difficult to discard experiences from those despotic military regimes that ravaged the country. Without the necessary orientation, they will continue to exhibit barbaric force as we have seen in this case. Eko o ni baje o. | | |

| Another observation is that there are too many idle persons around the seat of government and the state must manipulate the system in order to keep these sycophants busy. Stripping should not be encouraged but at the same time it does not affect the state as the government wants people to believe. There are too many pressing issues.Government should concentrate on roads, electricity, education and wait to see if these unholy businesses will not reduce dramatically. If the state wants to be truly democratic, let it take a public opinion poll and see how many people will be in support of this illegal arrests.

| As devlish as the nudity business is,I must not fail to mention here that the illegal arrest of those dancers is absolutely repressive and undemocratic on the part of Lagos State Government. Which section of the Constitution states that a consenting adult should be arrested for stripping. As much as most Lagosian cherishes the idea of transforming the state into a mega city,it should not be achieved through repression. The State Officials should bear in mind that even past Junta regimes acknowledged a limit they must not force the people beyond. In my own opinion, thorough checks and balances must be put in place in the Environment,Lands,Transport and Security agencies so that the state will continue to maintain it's number one position in the Federation. | The children of these thieves will carry-on with their father's evil legacy. With our fraudulent electoral reforms, they will be "selected" into public office and so the looting continues. I will never respect any wealthy public office holder cos we know their salary scale. But one thing is certain. For every act, there is judgment, whether good or bad and it starts from here. | | | |
