101  Forum / The Buzz Central / CONTROVERSY TRAILS MISS UNIVERSE 2011 LEILA LOPES on: 21-09-2011 08:18 PM
Miss Universe 2011 Leila Lopes Fake documents controversy has been going on for few days now.

Argentine newspaper Infobae reports ;

Lopes, with help from a man named Charles Mukano, participated in the Miss Angola UK pageant despite the fact that she lived in Angola, and not the United Kingdom, which is a violation of the rules. Mukano is also said to have helped Lopes obtain documents claiming she was a business management student at an English university.

The report goes as far as to say that Lopes might have bribed British judges to ensure a win.

Though now the Miss Universe Organization claimed that all the allegations are actually false and they have never heard about the person named Charles Mukano, moreover the news of Cuban ancestry and knowing spanish language is also not true.

If Lopes had lost the title, it would have been a great emotional cost to Angola.

104  Forum / The Buzz Central / Up,close N Personal With Actress Uche Iwuanyanwu+her Relationship With Jim Iyke on: 18-09-2011 06:19 PM
Uche Joan Iwuanyanwu is a Nigerian actress from Mbano Local Government area of Imo state. She is also a final year student of Economics at the University of Jos, Plateau state.

For her, acting and schooling at the same time have been hectic but she has been able to handle both because she has remained focused. In this interview with Florence Amagiya , she talks about her journey so far in the movie industry and her plans for the future.

How did you become an actress?

I have always loved acting even as a child. I came into the industry in 2009 and did my first movie that same year. It was shot in Festac, Lagos state. The movie was called Queen’s Island.

I acted alongside Yemi Blaq, Mercy Johnson and Jim Iyke. I did another job with Teco Benson, it was an international movie and I was the only female on set . I have done movies in Ghana. The movies l did in Ghana were Under my pillow and Dr. Cruel. I was also in another movie, Pool Party alongside top Ghanain actors and actresses.

Have you been under anybody’s pillow before?

No, I haven’t and I won’t be.

You are looking so young, are you up to 20 ?

I am more than 20 years old. In fact, l am a 400 level, Economics student. I am in the University of Jos, Plateau state.

How do you cope with acting and education?

I cope very well with the two because they are not related in anyway. When l am on campus, l am on campus and when l am working in a location outside school, then l am working.

You said you have worked in Ghana, how was it like to work with the Ghanians in their country?

Oh! Ghanians are wonderful people and l enjoyed every minute of my stay in Ghana.

What’s your take on sex for roles in movies?

I haven’t experienced a situation like that, maybe because l am not desperate for roles. When you are desperate for roles, you are forced to go to the extreme and l know it still doesn’t mean you will get the role. My advice to would- be actresses is to know the trade and forget desperation. Your worth will be discovered in no time.

Who is your god-father in the industry?

I didn’t come into the industry with the help of anybody. I got my first job through my aunt’s friend. I got my first break in a Ghanaian movie.

Can you act Unclad?

I cannot act Unclad for any amount. But as we all know, acting is not real. If l have to interpret a role, l will give it my best and if possible improvise when the need arises. For instance, if the character is for me to wear a bra and pant, l will simply wear a bum- short and a bra top.

Would you date a married man?

I cannot date a married man except l am not aware he is married.

Since you would not date a married man, can you convert someone’s husband?

No!!! I won’t do that. I want my own husband. I can be possessive and l do not share. My own husband must not have married someone else before me.

Let’s go back to the Unclad role, what if you are paid the right price to interpret a role as it is in the Unclad?

I won’t take that role! Other better roles will come. I am from a home and not a house.
Do you easily get angry?

Anger is not a very pleasant emotion, especially if you cannot control it. I don’t easily get angry and when l do, l try to control it.

How is your love life, are you in a serious relationship?

I don’t want to talk about it. But to set the record straight, l am in a relationship.

Would you starve a loved one because you are angry?

I won’t and besides, l enjoy cooking. I am a good cook.

Can you act a romantic scene?

Yes, I can and I would do it well. I am an actress and acting is all about make- believe. Why should I be romancing a guy in a movie under a duvet? Is that what we do in real life? It would not be real.

Who is your role model in the industry?

My role model is Aunty Joke Silva. She has been an inspiration to me right from my childhood and l wish l can be like her one day. She has been able to combine her career in acting, keeping the home-front and she is still scandal -free. To me, that’s awesome.

Your name is Uche Iwuanyanwu, are you related to Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu ?

No, l am not. He is just name-sake with my family .

What kind of background do you have?

I am the third child from a family of six. My dad is a Minister in a church, but not a pastor. I grew up in a home and not a house. I am in my final year in the University of Jos, studying Economics. I have a diploma in Mass Communication and l cannot wait to bag my first degree.

You are a beautiful lady, how do you cope with men’s advances?

It is not easy, but God has given me the grace to cope and to draw the line when l am not interested.

Have you ever had an embarrassing moment?

That l cannot remember. I don’t think l have had any.

What and who can stop you from acting?

Nobody can stop me from acting except my husband.

How do you cope with unknown calls?

I don’t get unknown calls, but I get random messages.

Have you dated anybody in the industry?

No, l haven’t and I won’t.

What’s your ideal man?

I will love a God- fearing man. He has to be educated and successful.

What about physical attributes?

I don’t think physical appearance is the most important consideration when talking about my ideal man. The will of God should be done above all.

W hat is your relationship with Jim Iyke?

I don’t have a relationship with Jim Iyke. I worked with him on set.

105  Forum / The Buzz Central / SHOCKER:Redeemed Pastor Extorts N50,000 From Hawker on: 18-09-2011 06:07 PM
Overtime, both believers and non- believers have always made the statement that the direct synonym for most new generation churches on Nigeria, is Business-Centre. Despite the talks, articles and debates on the true picture for the purpose at which churches are established in Nigeria in this 21st Century; some accept hook, line and sinker that some pastors are just living fat and extorting their members' hard earned money.

These new generation pastors live luxurious life, pretending to be God- sent. They are fond of lampooning the congregation with supernatural miseries that create fear in their minds and end up succumbing to all pastors' innuendos. The latest gist from the acclaimed house of God is that one Redeemed pastor after every camp service smiles to the bank with his swollen accounts.

We were told that the pastor demands as much as N50,000 from hawkers who want to trade during camp service before they can have access to make any sale without the consent of the General Overseer. We further learnt that after keeping calm for so long, the trader soon felt cheated, claiming that the pastor's act has been the extortion of the first order. Moreover, they went ahead to table the matter with Pastor Adeboye, who instantly reacted to the injustice.

Information at our disposal revealed that on getting the report, Pastor Adeboye dismissed the dubious pastor, saying he has never asked anyone to collect money from the sellers who display their wares at the camp.

This might not be good news to listeners of Matse on Wazobia Fm, the pidgin speaking lady, who is loved by all, has resigned from the radio station.

She made a statement via twitter which reads,

“Pips! I’m no longer with 95.1 Wazobia FM. I want to thank U for the unconditional love U’ve shown me. I really appreciate U’all. God bless,”

Matse’s Twitter profile suggests she has gained employment at a new radio station called 93.9 Nigeria Info.

We gathered that the new radio station is run by owners of Cool FM and Wazobia FM.

The OAP confirmed her new job status. ‘Yes, I now work at 93.9 Nigeria Info, the station is more like CNN or BBC on radio, it’s all about news, talk shows etc’.

Findings revealed that Matse will drop the ‘Pidgin English’ and resume speaking in English language.

An insider at the Wazobia says she has been promoted as well. ‘Matse will resume as Head of News‘, our source says

This has been the question in a lot of people’s mouth.Hardly will you listen to any of this controversial actress precipitate singer’s songs without hearing where she is praising Agu 77.
London-based Agu 77 has been linked with a lot of movie actresses, including a half-caste actress who just premiered her 1st movie in Lagos.

Also the huge physique actress who has floated a clothing line because of her size. Not to talk of an elderly actress who resides around Egbeda in Lagos. All of them we gathered gets huge sums of money from the man.

This, many say may also be the reason Anambra State-born Anita now sings about the man in almost all her songs. Many are of the opinion that the money bag might be the one sponsoring her music, while some said it’s more than that.

Though Anita has in almost all her interviews said she is in love with someone but no one knows the identity of the person.

Could Agu 77 be the person?

110  Forum / The Buzz Central / Shan George survives fatal accident on: 17-09-2011 01:17 PM
What would have amounted to another tragedy in Nollywood was avoided recently when star actress Shan George, miraculously survived a fatal domestic accident. The life-threatening mishap that kept the bubbly entertainer bed-ridden for over two months was eventually taken care of the traditional way when succour was not forthcoming from orthodox treatment.
Speaking on why she had been out of circulation, especially in the make-believe world, the mulatto mother of two, disclosed that a domestic disaster kept her indoors for several months.

In the words of the actress turned singer, her being alive today was by the grace of God.

“Sincerely, some months ago, if somebody had told me I would be alive and still move freely with my two legs and whole body, I would have objected. I was home alone at my Ikeja, Lagos residence early this year and slipped off in my bathroom after a cold shower and immediately passed out for five hours. When I finally woke up, I discovered that I could not move any part of my body again. In fact, I thought I was paralyzed. I eventually summoned courage and crawled to my sitting room, picked my phone and alerted my neighbours, who came to my rescue.”

Miss George, further disclosed that her male neighbours that eventually rescued and rushed her to the hospital, actually met her stark naked. “That was to tell you the impact of what happened to me,” she added.

The former controversial actress, who has now fully recovered said she was moved from a specialist hospital after some weeks, to a traditional bone-setters home, when her condition deteriorated.

“Thank God, I’m fully back on my feet again and decided to volunteer myself for the Christy Essien’s memorial and other activities leading to her recent burial. As a sign of respect, her event was the first I would be attending since recovering from my domestic accident,” she explained.

111  Forum / The Buzz Central / Star Actress Uche Jombo Finally Opens Up About Abortion Scandal on: 17-09-2011 12:53 PM

If you call her an Avenging Angel on a deadly mission, you won’t be wrong. Highly rated Nollywood actress, Uche Jombo is so angry with a reporter who accused her of aborting a six-month unborn baby that she wants to harm him. Jombo who sees herself as ‘emotional’ says the libelous story had brought her so much anguish and tears that she cannot help but seek her own pound of flesh.

“You know how emotional I am. I have cried for smaller things but this one, I still curse the person, till tomorrow. It will only take God for me to see the person and not harm him”

In fact, the Glo ambassador who recently premiered her latest movie, Damage, is visibly galled, exasperated and ready to bare her fang.

For Jombo, the only panacea that would assuage her current disposition is justice from a court of competent jurisdiction.

The negative impact of the “front page news”, which embittered Jombo described as “false and malicious” still haunts her, hence her reason for threatening fire and brimstone.

“For me, that was my biggest scandal ever. It was really damaging and I won’t stop fighting till I get justice”, insists the star who breezed into Tinsel town in 1999, on the set of Visa to Hell.

She continues: “Well, I’m currently in court with the soft-sell magazine, for writing what I have come to consider the worst media story in my entire life and career, which was completely false and malicious. During the world premiere of my second movie last year, Holding Hope, I lost so much weight deliberately based on my character as a Cancer patient only for this paper to write on their front page that I aborted a pregnancy at six months, hence the lost of weight,” she recollects with tears in her sexy eyes.

“It’s still all over the net, just Google Uche Jombo/abortion, you’ll see over 500 pages…That story nearly shattered my life, my family legacy and all that I have laboured for in my entire career, in fact, it almost killed me. When you say someone aborted a six-month-old pregnancy, you are not just saying it’s an abortion, you are equally saying that person is a murderer because, six months, a baby is already formed and I don’t know where any one gets off thinking you can lose weight by having abortion,” she defends

That’s not the reason I didn’t attend her wedding,it’s surprising, why people think you just have to be everybody’s friend.

In the industry,I don’t know half of the producers and I work for them,I don’t even know half of my colleagues but I work with them.

I kiss and hug them on set.We flow,we enjoy the friendship on set based on the energy and connection that exists between myself and the next person on set but that does not mean we are friends in the real sense of it.
You can’t just be a friend to everybody,it’s a normal thing.

Mercy Johnson is not just my friend.
Asked if she had a serious quarrel with her,she said; Even if I had,I had let go everything. It doesn’t really matter to me anymore.
Everybody is doing well,It’s just because we are not close,we only did about two or three movies together. We have never been close friends.

Talents abound in the Nigerian entertainment industry. To keep up with the competition, artistes are not only trying to outdo each other in the quality of work they churn out, they also bring something to the table with their appearances. At the rate these artistes are going, it will seem that they believe in the mantra, ‘the crazier the better.’

Though the right opportunity gives a talented artiste room to grow, creativity is what makes an entertainer to stand out. In the battle to stay relevant in the entertainment industry, each player tries to be at their creative best.

We looks at the artistes who stand out in the industry, not just because they are good in their chosen fields, but because they define their personality with their image.

114  Forum / The Buzz Central / I Dated A Colleague To Discourage Randy Actors, Producers -Bose Atey on: 17-09-2011 12:25 PM
Abosede Niniola Atey was a prominent face in the Yoruba genre of Nollywood about a decade ago. She left the shores of the country some years back to marry her beau, US-based Rasheed Keshiro. The mother of three speaks with Adunola Fasuyi on a wide range
Abosede Niniola of issues, especially marriage and Nollywood.

How did your journey into Nollywood come about?
Well, before I got introduced to Bayowa, through a friend who is a journalist, Alonge Michael, I had attended a couple of auditions which include Super Story, but I was not lucky during the selection process. But when Bayowa wanted to shoot a movie, Larinloodu, I was called for audition and became part of the cast. So, if I have to answer your question, I would say I came into Nollywood through Bayowa in 2001.

So, how many movies have you featured in?
Well, before I moved to the United States of America, I had acted in quite a number of movies. In fact, right now, I can’t tell you specifically the number of movies I featured in.

Where did you grow up?
I was born and bred in Lagos, but I grew up in Ifako-Ogba area of Lagos .

Would you say your background and environment influenced your love for acting?
Actually, I have always loved acting and broadcasting. I’ve always imagined myself on the screen, so when the opportunity came for me to act, I jumped at it because it had been my passion.

How would you rate the industry now and when you started out?
The industry has really improved. Entertainment generally, in Nigeria, now competes favourably with the international world, it’s really a job well done, for all the stakeholders who are making things happen in Nigeria. I doff my hat for them…

What challenges did you face while coming up as an actress?
In any profession, you are bound to face challenges, but what motivates one is the love that you have for what you do and your constant efforts exceed all challenges too. I started out as a model, you know, it’s not about my height, but skin, I have a very beautiful skin and looks, so, while in secondary school, I was a model for top companies in Nigeria and abroad. The challenges were such that I was able to handle.

During your time in Nollywood, did you ever date any actor?
Yes of course. I was not married then and there were pressures from producers and actors. I contacted a friend to advise me on what to do and she said there was need for me to date one person, within the industry, as a shield. When they know you are somebody’s girlfriend, they will desist from pestering you for a relationship. And it actually helped push off pressures from the producers and actors.

What would you personally consider your major achievements in life?
Nothing more! God has blessed me with a lovely family, my husband and my children are my major earthly possessions.

Would you consider a return to Nollywood and start acting again?
I am not sure of that for now. I have my husband and kids to take care of. Besides, my husband is taking good care of me. Though, acting is a passion but I think my passion now is to be around my husband, nothing matters to me more than that.

What are your regrets in life?
No regrets.

What do you miss about Nigeria?
My sisters, my granny and the rest of my family and friends whom I’ve not spoken with for almost a decade.

What would you not be caught doing?
Stealing, smoking and talking bad about people. I am not the gossip type.

What is the dirtiest thing you have ever done before?
Dirtiest thing I have ever done before is my laundry. (Laughter)

What motivates you to do things?
Where I’m from, and where I’m about to go, these are two things that ring like a bell in my eardrum and I have been drumming this into my children and my sisters too.

Do you miss Nollywood?
Yeah, I do but my marriage and home come first. If God says I’d be back there no qualms, but I enjoyed it while I was there.

What part of your body do you cherish most?
Every part of me, because I am full of life, I thank God for that.

How would you describe your background?
I am from a humble Christian background. My mum is late now but I still have my dad. My parents instilled the sense of humility and discipline in all of us. Funny enough, we are all females. This Christian discipline helped a lot, as we grew older, knowing that God should be put first in everything and that we should have respect for fellow humans.

115  Forum / The Buzz Central / I prefer dating older men -Ene Lawani, former Miss Nigeria on: 17-09-2011 12:20 PM
Former Miss Nigeria, Ene Lawani, tells Ada Onyema about her long reign as a beauty queen, her life and why she loves older men

How was it being the longest reigning Miss Nigeria from 2004 to 2010?

Well, it wasn’t my wish to be the longest reigning queen. Unforeseen circumstances that had to do with the office made my reign so long; but at the same time, it was great. I was able to impact on lives positively. I led a national awareness campaign tour with emphasis on promoting a healthy lifestyle, which was part of my pet project of preventing of malaria. I had endorsement deals for companies and others. It was really an eye-opener for me and it opened a lot of doors for me as well.

Was being the longest-reigning queen a distraction in any way?

Yes partly, especially my education. I had to stop school for a year and when I couldn’t hand over on time, I was home for three years before I finally started school again. So, it affected my academic life.

Did you have to stay at home for three whole

years?

Well, not really. But I was hoping that whenever I handed over, I would continue my education abroad.

How true is it that beauty queens go out of their ways to get the crown?

I really don’t know about that. I think my winning the crown was a miracle. I had actually given up that day because my costume and everything I was meant to use for the show did not arrive until the night of the show. I don’t know about pressing buttons, although I heard stories that somebody had been paid to win; but I just went for the fun of it. I had already given up, but when my costume arrived, I just thought I could give it a trial and I won. I wouldn’t say all beauty queens were under pressure or press buttons and all that. If you have all the qualities – beauty, charisma, carriage – and have all it takes to be a beauty queen, you will win.

People look at beauty queens as people who use their bodies to get what they want. What do you think?

I don’t think so. It is like every normal pretty girl. When you are a pretty girl, you go places, doors open for you. I don’t think it is just only beauty queens who do that. On that platform, you have opportunities to meet people you least expected and dine with the high and the mighty. It is just an opportunity.

The event which also featured Tuface Idibia and Naeto C, was another opportunity for I Go Dye to prove his mettle as one of the funniest rib crackers in the country.

And indeed, he proved his competence beyond rhetoric when he got former President Olusegun Obasanjo reeling in laughter in a manner described as a rarity going by the former President’s antecedents.

But his recent roles in these sex-related movies have made him a soft porn movie star.

A lot of people were mouths agape in the movie,Dirty Secret, which was produced by Sanga Entertainment a Bronx,New York,USA based company where Muna Obiekwe and a host of others including Tonto Dikeh got really explicit kissing, going Nood, exposing boobs and genitals in the flick.

The movie also includes gay scenes with the guys kissing each other.

His role in Fumble also produced by Sanga Entertainment starred him wearing a female pant in one of the scenes.

There were equally Nood scenes which made people think he had lost all sense of decency.

Another eye-sore movie he featured in is Men in Love produced by Divine Touch Productions Limited a movie that explores the taboo of homosegxwality in Nigeria.

He played a despicable role of a sex partner to the Ghanaian actor,John Dumelo, who is the husband of Tonto Dikeh. He drugged and rapped his partner(John Dumelo) in the movie.

But I wonder why the fair complexioned actor has chosen to thread this ignoble paths.
