Five members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) serving in Rivers State have been abducted. The corps members, including four females were said to have been whisked away by gunmen somewhere at Omademe in Ikwerre Local Government Area of the state while on the way to their place of primary assignment.

The abduction occurred just as suspected hoodlums killed two policemen and wounded another in the early hours of yesterday, June 8th, 2011 in Port Harcourt. Sources told Daily Sun that the corps members were riding in a car belonging to one of them when the gunmen struck. No group had claimed responsibility for the abduction as at press time.
When contacted, the Public Relations Officer of the NYSC directorate in the state, Mr. Esan told Daily Sun that officials of the directorate had been sent to the area to obtain details of the incident.

He confirmed that only one male was among the victims. The Commissioner of Police, Mr Suleiman Abba said vigorous search by several police teams in the surrounding areas had commenced to trace the abducted corps members. He said all hands were on deck on the investigation that would lead to the rescue of the victims and arrest of the gunmen.

25  Forum / Sports / Why Arsenal players want to leave club -Walcott on: 8-06-2011 11:38 PM
THEO WALCOTT admits a number of Arsenal stars are itching to leave.

He reckons six years with no trophy or title has sent frustration levels soaring.

The England striker is now praying boss Arsene Wenger will keep his promise to bring in big names such as Real Madrid's Karim Benzema and so halt a possible exodus of top players.

Walcott, 22, said: "I can understand why some players might be frustrated and thinking of leaving.

"They want to win things and we haven't done that for six years."

27  Forum / Relationships & Romance / Secrets of female orgasm revealed on: 12-05-2011 11:12 PM
Scientists have discovered the female orgasm leads to an altered state of conciousness that could help the minority of women who can not climax.

Researchers at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands unwittingly stumbled across the results after they examined the brain scans of women taken while they orgasmed.

The team noticed that an area of the brain, known as the orbitofrontal cortex or OFC, switched off when the women climaxed.

It is estimated that one in four women in the U.S.  has had difficulty achieving orgasm in the past year, while between five and 10 per cent of women suffer from anorgasmia and can not climax at all.

Speaking to New Scientist magazine, researcher Janniko Georgiadis said the OFC may be the basis for 'segxwal control', and that by 'letting go' women can induce orgasm.

He said: 'I don't think orgasm turns off consciousness but it changes it.

'When you ask people how they perceive their orgasm, they describe a feeling of a loss of control.'

'I'm not sure if this altered state is necessary to achieve more pleasure or is just some side effect.'

To create the scans, Dutch researchers strapped the women into an MRI scanner and then allowed their partners to pleasure them to orgasm, all the while taking snapshots of their brain activity.

It is hoped that by comparing the brain scans of women having an orgasm with those who cannot, scientists will be able to 'coach' those with anorgasmia into truly 'letting go'.

Osama Bin Laden has been killed by the U.S. military after a decade-long hunt to avenge the 9/11 attacks, President Barack Obama revealed today.

The leader of al Qaeda was dramatically killed today,  May 2nd, 2011 in a firefight with American special forces in a $1million mansion hideout about 60 miles north of Islamabad in Pakistan.

In a dramatic statement President Obama said the U.S. military had recovered the body and confirmed to the world he had finally been killed.

Tonight I can report to the American people and the world that United States has conducted an operation that killed Osama bin Laden, the leader of Al Qaeda and a terrorist who is responsible for the murder of thousands of innocent men, women and children,’ he said.

‘Justice has been done’.

Taunting the U.S. : The now notorious image of bin Laden, evading U.S. forces in Afghanistan, and spouting messages of hate against America

Within minutes of the news breaking Americans began gathering outside the White House to sing the national anthem and chant: ‘USA! USA!'

In a spontaneous outpouring of emotion, thousands started cheering and clapping and waving American flags to show their support.

But the terror chief's death will undoubtedly put the Middle East on high alert for reprisal attacks. It will also lead to urgent demands from Washington as to how the most wanted man was allowed to seek refuge in a supposedly allied country as Pakistan.

U.S. military sources revealed tonight that Bin Laden had been taken by surprise by the attack by a small team of U.S. Navy Seals who landed in the grounds of the compound.

During an operation that took just 40 minutes from start to finish, bin Laden was shot in the head in a firefight as he tried to evade capture. Three of his men were also killed along with a woman they tried to use as a human shield.

In his televised statement Mr Obama said that bin Laden was killed in a helicopter raid by a small group of U.S. Navy Seals who stormed his mansion in an affluent area 80 miles from Islamabad.

They were working on a tip which first surfaced last August after ‘years of painstaking work’ from the CIA and had taken months to run it into the ground.

‘Last week I determined that we had enough intelligence to take action and authorised an operation to get Osama bin Laden and bring him to justice,’ Mr Obama said.

29  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Oh hunger...Man Cooks & Eats his Finger on: 17-04-2011 09:56 AM
A MAN battling depression cut off his own little finger, cooked it for dinner and ate it.

It's the first known case of self-cannibalism in New Zealand and only the eighth reported around the world.

The man, who has not been named, cooked the finger in a pan with vegetables.

The extreme act was revealed yesterday in the Australasian Psychiatry journal by two Christchurch-based psychiatrists.

He was not on medication, drugs or alcohol, said authors Erik Monasterio and Craig Prince.

The report said: "He experienced significant insomnia and suicidal ideation, and ruminated for days about cutting off his fingers.

"In an effort to seek reprieve from these thoughts, he tied a shoelace around his little finger to act as a tourniquet and cut the finger off with a jigsaw.

"He then cooked it in a pan with some vegetables and ate its flesh. His plan was to amputate another two fingers the following day."

The man changed his mind but was assessed by medics who decided he had a "vulnerable personality structure".

He had initially felt excited about what he had done but later regretted his first act of self-harm because of its debilitating effects.

40  Forum / The Buzz Central / LADY GAGA IS BORN AGAIN on: 6-04-2011 08:01 PM
LADY GAGA is releasing a new "country" version of her single Born This Way and it's much better than the original.

The song, taken from Gaga's hotly anticipated third album of the same name which is scheduled for release on May 23,2011 now sounds more DOLLY PARTON than MADONNA.

Part of the proceeds go to charity.

Meanwhile the US singer is a front runner at next month's new MTV web-based O Awards.

Labelled as a "celebration of digital music", the event will be streamed live on the Internet on April 28, 2011.

The wacky singer, who has recently been sporting horns, is up for three awards including Most Innovative Artist.

Other categories include Best Fan Cover, Best Independent Music Blog and Best Fan Cover.

The awards for the prizes will be voted for by music fans on social media.

Other artists nominated include JUSTIN BIEBER, KANYE WEST and NICKI MINAJ.

Bizarrely, West is the only nominee for the Best Tweet award.
