A MISSING waitress was murdered by her husband at home then cut up with an electric saw, a court heard on April 5, 2011.

Emma Ward, 21 when she vanished, is alleged to have been attacked in a bedroom of the family home by taxi driver Nicky Ward, 29, then dragged into the bathroom.

Prosecutor Simon Spence QC told Norwich Crown Court, Norfolk, that experts had found traces of her bone, muscle and skin inside Ward's electric saw - bought shortly before she disappeared in April 2010 - and blood-smeared scratches made by the saw in the bath.

After Emma was reported missing, Ward told police she had left him for another man. No trace of her has ever been found. Mr Spence said: "He must have disposed of the body parts."

Taxi driver Ward, of Rockland St Peter, Norfolk, denies murder. Case continues.

An Osun State monarch, has been arrested and arraigned in an Osun State Magistrate Court for allegedly molesting a corps member.

The royal father, who was arrested on March 28 was said to have forcefully had sex with the 23-years-old corps member at his Osogbo residence on March 25.

The monarch appeared before Magistrate Olalekan Ijiyode on March 30. Curiously, the magistrate was said to have instructed that the court proceedings should not be made public.
Efforts to get documents pertaining to the matter were rebuffed by court officials, who directed all enquiries to the presiding magistrate.

It was gathered that the king allegedly lured the corps member to Osogbo after helping him to take inventory of his subjects and prospective trainees for a proposed computer training programme to be organized by the king. Speaking on the incident, yesterday, Osun State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mr. Etim Enyenihi, condemned the incident, describing it as “very shameful.”
He stated that the Director-General of the NYSC, Brigadier-General Maharazu Tsiga had been briefed on the incident and had vowed to ensure that the king faced the full weight of the law.

Facebook and its co-founder Mark Zuckerberg are being sued for more than $1billion over a page that was on the social networking site that called for violence against Jews.

The page, entitled Third Palestinian Intifada, had more than 340,000 'likes' for its proposed May 15 uprising when it was removed earlier in the week.

The suit was filed by American attorney Larry Klayman in the D.C. Superior Court on Thursday.

He is also the founder of the conservative public interest group Judicial Watch.

In the lawsuit Mr Klayman describes himself as "an American citizen of Jewish origin" who is "active in all matters concerning the security of Israel and its people."

He alleges that Facebook did not take down the page that called for a intifada quick enough, keeping it up in order to 'further their revenues and the net worth of the company.'

The page was removed by the company on March 29, several days after various people complained, including Israeli Public Diplomacy minister Yuli Edelstein and the Anti-Defamation League.

A Facebook spokesman said that the claims were 'without merit,' adding that 'we will fight it vigorously.'

Ahead of bankers, lawyers and estate agents: Manchester United is most hated company in Britain

Manchester United have topped a new league table, but it is not one they are going to be proud of. The Premiership leaders are now the most hated company in the country.

They are more hated than the only people in the country who probably earn more than the club's multi-million pound stars - bankers.

In a survey of 1,000 UK adults, 26 per cent said they hated Manchester United compared to 23 per cent who cannot stand budget airline Ryanair, the next most despised company.

The poll, conducted by Online Opinions for The People, showed that Manchester United may have the biggest crowds and a winning record but their success and power alienates many others from across the country.

In both north-west England and London they are hated by 31 per cent - though many of these are probably supporters of their biggest rivals. That figure falls to 22 per cent in the South West and 23 per cent in East Anglia.

Snakes on a plane: Smugglers arrested with 40 pythons in their hand luggage

Two men were arrested trying to smuggle 40 snakes onto a plane in their hand luggage on Saturday, March 26th, 2011.

They were stopped after airport security officials in Jakarta found the animals when the bags were passed through security scanners

Although the reticulated pythons were sedated, officers still said the reptiles could have caused terror on the flight from Jakarta to Dubai if released - especially among  any passengers who had seen Samuel L Jackson film Snakes on a Plane.

Reticulated pythons are not poisonous and kill their prey by squeezing them to death, although a few cases of them killing humans have been reported.

The arrested men, Yaqub Ebrahim and Ali Hasan, are thought to have been trying to smuggle the animals to the United Arab Emirates where they would have been sold.

The pair are said to have told officers that they had been promised a large sum of money for the snakes by the collectors in the United Arab Emirates.

Authorities across south east Asia are seeing increasing animal smuggling.

In December 2010, police at Abu Dhabi's airport stopped a passenger who passed through an Indonesian airport carrying four snakes, two parrots and a squirrel.

52  Forum / Politics / RIBADU, TINUBU ESCAPE DEATH on: 8-03-2011 08:17 PM
A former governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu; the presidential candidate of the Action Congress of Nigeria, Mallam Nuhu ribadu; his running mate, Mr. Fola Adeola, and some other chieftains of the party on Tuesday, February 8, 2011 escaped death after one of the aircraft in which they were travelling to Bauchi for a presidential rally crashlanded at Bauchi Airport.

A chartered airplane conveying Adeola and chieftains of the ACN, including its Deputy National Chairman, Boss Mustapha; and a former National Chairman of the All Nigeria

Peoples Party, Yusuf Alli, crashlanded due to non-clearance of the airport runway by airport authorities.

This was contained in a statement by the Director of Media and Publicity of the Nuhu Ribadu Campaign Organisation, Ibrahim Modibbo.

The runway, which had been taken over by rams and goats, was not cleared, forcing

the pilot of Adeola‘s aircraft, with number 5BN-BNR to do a forced landing, damaging the aircraft in the process. The accident occurred at about noon.

Meanwhile, the second aircraft conveying Ribadu, Tinubu and some other party leaders had to hover in the air for about an hour for the runway to be cleared.

The General Manager, Public Affairs of the National Airspace Management Agency, Mr. Supo Atobatele, confirmed the incident, saying the crashlanding of Adeola‘s plane was caused by some rams that strayed onto the runway as its landing gear (tyres) made impact with the runway.

He said Tinubu‘s aircraft, which was following Adeola‘s plane, had to hover in the air for an hour as a result of the incident.

53  Forum / Politics / OBJ CONDEMNS BODE GEORGE on: 5-03-2011 12:20 AM
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo on March 4th while celebrating his 74th birthday was full of praises to God for sparing his life despite the vicissitudes of life. In a lecture to mark the day, he found an avenue to court and vent controversy by embarking on a somersault on a reception he attended to welcome back Chief Olabode George from prison.

On the outing that has been generally condemned, the ex-president said he was tricked into attending a church service for the released former chairman of the Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA)

In his reaction to questions from journalists shortly after the lecture on why he attended the reception for George on the day he was released from prison, Obasanjo put up a defence. He said, “You got it wrong. I was not part of the celebration of Bode George’s release. And let’s get a few things right. When Bode George went to prison, the first thing that I did was to find out things from his lawyer, what really went wrong. What I found out eventually was that as far as I am concerned, Bode George did not conduct himself properly in the task that he was assigned.

On my attendance of the reception, he sent me a passionate message from prison urging me to attend a family church thanksgiving.  I believe that for whatever any family is giving thanks in the church or in the mosque and invites me and I am able to go there, I will go. But when I got to the church, the atmosphere I found was more than a family affair. I even asked the state PDP chairman whether that was a PDP affair and he told me it was not. When I asked the state chairman, he said well, ‘you know Area Boys. They do hijack things like this. If it is for the Area Boys, leave it to the Area Boys and not to PDP.

I said so because I don’t see why PDP as a national party, as a party that is trying to form a government in Lagos State, as a party that formed government at the national level and in at least 27 states in the country would be celebrating criminality.
“Whatever we may say, the reason Bode went to prison should be condemned by everybody and I have condemned it but he did not go to prison for political offence. If he had been sent to prison for political offence, then he comes back and all his political associates may get round him and PDP must do something noble and wholesome but in this case, PDP as a party must dissociate itself from celebrating criminality.”

Two 'Judas like' teenage sisters were sentenced on February 8th, 2011 sentenced to a total of 40 years for the brutal knife murder of their 61-year-old father Antoni Robinson who was a retired antiques dealer from Old Colwyn, north Wales. He was stabbed 15 times as his daughters and their boyfriends tried to get their hands on the contents of his safe.

Ashleigh Robinson, 19, and 16-year-old Holly 'supported and encouraged' the frenzied late-night attack on Mr Robinson in July last year.  They were convicted of murder alongside their boyfriends Gordon Harding, 20, and Sacha Roberts, 19, and their mother Joanne Barr, following a month-long trial.

The girls and their boyfriends had hatched a plot to sneak into Mr Robinson's bedroom to extract the contents of his safe.
The court heard earlier that the retired antiques dealer had split from the girls' mother, Joanne Barr, after 25 years living together in December 2009.

The break-up had become increasingly acrimonious and there had been a number of heated arguments over money.
The court heard the two girls believed their mother’s jewellery was in the safe and wanted to get their hands on it but in reality the safe in their father’s bedroom contained £900 in cash.

Teenage girls who spend hours on Facebook are at greater risk of developing an eating disorder, researchers warn.

A study has revealed the more time adolescents spent browsing the social network, the more likely they are to suffer from bulimia and anorexia.

A study of girls aged 12 to 19 found they were more likely to go on an extreme diet if they spent hours on Facebook.

Checking out music and fashion online also encouraged them to develop a negative self-image and have an unhealthy attitude towards food, according to scientists from the University of Haifa.

But they found the risk was moderated if parents were involved in how their children used the internet.

Eating disorders include a wide spectrum of abnormal mental and behavioral conducts related to food and body weight. Around one in 250 women experience anorexia in the UK, while around five times as many struggled with bulimia.

The latest study, led by Professor Yael Latzer, set out to examine the effects of two factors on the development of eating disorders in young girls: exposure to the media and self-empowerment.

A group of 248 girls aged 12 to 19 took part in the survey. They were asked to provide information on their Internet and television viewing habits and how many popular shows featured extreme standards of body image.

The girls also filled out questionnaires that examined their approach to slimming, bulimia, physical satisfaction or dissatisfaction, their general outlook on eating, and their sense of personal empowerment.

The results showed that the more time girls spend on Facebook, the more they suffered the conditions of bulimia, anorexia, poor physical self-image, negative approach to eating and a greater urge to be on a strict diet.

Extensive online exposure to fashion and music content showed similar tendencies, but manifested in fewer types of eating disorders.

A similar direct link was found between viewing television programmes such as Gossip Girl and eating disorders in adolescent girls.

But worried parents will be relieved to hear that their involvement can moderate the risks.

Girls felt greater personal empowerment if their parents knew what they were looking at on the web and discussed their surfing habits with them.

However, they were less empowered if their parents were not involved in their media exposure and tried to limit or ban their daughters from using Facebook.

The researchers said: 'Significant potential for future research and application of eating disorder prevention lies in an understanding of how parenting decisions can have effect on an adolescent girl's sense of empowerment and that enforcing a girl's sense of empowerment is a means to strengthening body image.

'This study has shown that a parent has potential ability to prevent dangerous behavioral disorders and negative eating behavior in particular.'

A spokesman from Facebook said: 'Young people are surrounded by photo-shopped models in magazines and airbrushed film stars, but when they spend time on Facebook they’re with their friends.

'People spend hours with their friends every day in the real world, so we’re not convinced spending time with them on Facebook makes them any more likely to have an eating disorder, particularly when the research in question has a sample size of just 248.

'Far from exacerbating self esteem problems, Facebook gives people closer contact with a network of supportive friends and family, the people this report’s authors say are best equipped to help people through eating disorders.'
