1  Forum / The Buzz Central / Allow Mini Skirts In Church – Pastor on: 12-03-2014 02:13 PM

GHANA – The General Overseer of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC), Dr. Mensa Otabil, says Christians must not turn away mini-skirted ladies from the Church.

In his Sunday March 9, 2014 sermon monitored by XYZ News, Dr. Otabil said Christians must not be judgmental of such people but rather welcome them into the Church and allow the Holy Spirit to work on them.

"There are people who come to Church in all kinds of state. And there are some Christians who are very intolerant. They see some woman who comes to Church – maybe with a short skirt– and they [grumble]: ‘The judgment of God, the fire will burn you.’ Let them come with their short skirts", Dr. Otabil urged the Church, "and let the Holy Spirit begin to work on them".

He added: "And after the Holy Spirit has worked on you for a long time, you add one more inch to your skirt and after a few more time, you add a few more inches and after a long time, you add another inch".

According to Pastor Otabil, "it is not about how you dress. It is about Jesus in you. And when you become a disciple of Christ, your dressing will change. I guarantee you that your dressing will change".

"So instead of being cruel, be kind and allow people to grow spiritually, then the physical manifestations will show," Dr. Otabil admonished his congregation.

Asserting that true love for people of all kind was the truest form of evangelism, Dr. Otabil said: "evangelising is not just crusades", adding that: "Crusades most times are not even effective. True love is the real evangelism. And that’s why in the Church we are committed to making a difference in people’s lives".

According to him, "we receive people as they are when they come to our church and we trust God to work on them", adding that: "We don’t have to become a critical [and] very very unfriendly Church".

2  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / PHOTOS: Divorced Woman Marries Her Pet Dog In Front Of 200 Guests on: 12-03-2014 02:03 PM

These "Oyinbo" people ehn....

Amanda Rodgers even got down on her knee to PROPOSE to terrier Sheba, and walked down the aisle in front of 200 friends and family.
So, did the dog actually say yes??? lol.

Anyway, the British divorcee says that Sheba is a comfort to her and after her first marriage broke down after just a few months, she wanted to do it right this time.
(A dog is actually beta than her husband. grin grin)

She revealed: "Sheba had been in my life for years, making me laugh and comforting me when I was feeling low. I couldn’t think of anything more I’d need from a life partner…"

"I got down on one knee and proposed."

“I could tell by her tail wagging that she said ‘yes’." (For her mind o!)

The 47-year-old from Brixton, London, got hitched to the mutt at a ceremony in Split, Croatia, and even gave her new partner the traditional kiss at the end of the ceremony.

Amanda, who first got married 20 years ago, added: "I’d dreamed of a perfect wedding dress since I was small, I made it myself for the ceremony."

"The day was wonderful, more fun than the marriage."

"I gave her a kiss to seal the deal and then everyone threw confetti."

"It was a wonderful moment."

While most people will think the wedding a bit odd, Amanda is unrepentant in her choice of bride.

She said: "I know the wedding to Sheba wasn’t real in the legal sense. But it was a nice way to mark what Sheba means to me."

"Sheba’s never unkind to me and she’s always happy."

3  Forum / The Buzz Central / OSCAR TRIAL: Athlete Used 'Black Talon' Bullets Designed For Maximum Damage on: 11-03-2014 11:50 AM
image

The bullets that killed Paralympian Oscar Pistorius’s girlfriend were of a type that has been the subject of repeated, though largely unsuccessful, bans since the 19th century.

A pathologist who performed an autopsy on Reeva Steenkamp the day after she died told the court Monday that the fatal gunshot wounds were inflicted by a type of expanding ammunition once known as “Black Talon”.

The American-manufactured bullets, fired by Pistorius from a 9mm pistol, were banned in the 1990s in South Africa, but made their way back to the market under a different name, Ranger.  But even before that, hollow- and soft-point bullets — also known as Dum-Dums — were officially proscribed by the 1899 Hague Convention governing the laws of war.  That text’s overly precise description rendered it almost meaningless and left ample scope for loopholes, yet their deadliness remains undisputed.

"It opens up once it is inside the body and cuts the tissue," said Jacobus Steyl, the owner of Durban-based specialist Forensic Ballistic Services.

"It causes severe damage… It’s quite dangerous," he added.- Jagged edges -On impact, expanding bullets flare out, forming jagged edges, like flower petals.

According to the International Committee of the Red Cross, this can happen within centimetres of entering the body.

The effect is more pronounced at higher velocity, and at close range, like the bullets that shattered the 29-year-old Steenkamp’s body through a bathroom door.  Gun experts told AFP that hollow-points can be bought at many gun shops in South Africa, but are not always easy to come by.

The ammunition was first manufactured by Winchester Ammunition in 1991, and became popular in South Africa during the violent years before the end of apartheid.

Steyl said the ammo was banned just before the advent of democracy in 1994.

"It’s a rather expensive type of ammo compared with your normal shotgun bullets," he said.

In the 1990s, a box of 20 rounds of the copper-jacketed bullets cost about 2,000 rands ($185 at today’s rates).

"Legal gun owners can buy hollow-point bullets at gun shops," he said.

But the bullets are more commonly used by security enforcement agencies like police, who say they reduce collateral damage because they are more likely to stay in the body of the target.

According to Andy Fuller, the owner of the Western Cape-based Homtini Tactical Shooting Academy, victims of this bullet have very slim chances of survival, due to massive internal bleeding they cause.  "

Its fragments also cause major tissue damage," he said, adding: "In many cases they kill instantly."

In the United States, the Black Talons came under the spotlight in 1993, when 15 people were shot by a lone gunman in San Francisco, nine fatally.

In his testimony, University of Pretoria pathologist Gert Saayman said Black Talon bullets were designed for "maximum damage" — adding that they are now known as ranger-type ammunition.

Pistorius, 27, says he fired four shots at Steenkamp on February 14, 2013, through a locked toilet door, believing her to be an intruder. He denies intentionally killing her.  SOURCE: www.adlekchills.blogspot.com

Obesere

Olanike Olaiya, a 29-year-old business woman, was allegedly raped by popular Fuji musician, Alhaji Abass Akande, also known as Obesere, has called on police authorities not to allow the matter to be swept under the carpet so that she will not die.

According to her, Obesere’s insertion of his ring in her private part, leading to bleeding and pain, may not be unconnected with ritual activities.

The graduate of Ibadan Polytechnic also said she was not impressed by the way the case was being handled at the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Panti, Yaba, Lagos. She accused the Investigating Police Officer, simply known as Jacob, of wanting to frustrate the investigation in favourof Obesere.

"We’re not lovers"

Yesterday, Olaiya also refuted allegations made by Obesere claiming they were lovers and that she wanted to use the rape saga to blackmail and extort money from him.

She said: "I knew him barely two weeks ago and we were talking business. But he raped me on our first meeting in his house."

"Like I told you earlier, I met him through a friend who is much older than me — she is over 49 year old — and she told me that Obesere helped her in her business and he could do same forme."

"She was the one who arranged the meeting at Obesere’s house, but Obesere made me wait for at least five hours until it became late for me to go after the meeting."

"Even when I insisted, he refused to let me go claiming his area was not safe and that everybody knew I was in his house."

"I slept over, but not in his room. He raped me and inserted a ring in my private part. I wouldn’t have gone to the Police if it was just the rape because it was my fault. As an adult, I should have known the danger of passing the night in a stranger’s house."

Why I went to Police

"I went to the police because I was bleeding and when I informed him about it, he didn’t take me seriously. He asked me to go to a private hospital in Ejigbo. But when I got there, the doctor did not even touch or examine me in any way. He just asked that I go for a scan, which is not done in that hospital. I left the hospital in pain and I reported the matter to the police."

"I wanted the police to be aware of what happened and prosecute him for forcefully having s*x with me against my wish."

"I also have to clarify the issue of wanting to blackmail him. From the beginning, I rejected all the money he offered me as settlement. You can ask the DPO at Isolo. He is aware that I rejected all the money he offered me. All I wanted was for him to be prosecuted for taking advantage of me because I slept in his house."

"Also, I wanted him to explain to the Police why he inserted a ring into my private part that made me bleed for two weeks and possibly reverse any ritual step he may have taken."

Alleges conspiracy

"As I speak with you, I am still going through pains. After the bleeding stopped, I have continued to have problems with my reproductive organs. That was why I went to the police, I wanted them to investigate and prosecute him."

"But what I am getting from the IPO is terrible. He is trying to destroy the case and set Obesere free at the expense of my life and dignity. He discarded the medical report from the General Hospital and he upheld that of Obesere’s private hospital, saying their report was the correct one. As I speak with you I am not feeling well at all."

7  Forum / The Buzz Central / Why Nigeria Can’t Have Elections In One Day – Jega on: 11-03-2014 10:31 AM
image

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman, Professor Attahiru Jega, yesterday in Lagos, may have put paid to agitations for the same day 2015 polls, saying this is difficult with the current prevailing situation in the country.

Jega said without doubt, having all elections, including presidential, governorship, national and state assemblies’ polls same day, is the hallmark and defining character of mature democracies in the world, but insisted that Nigeria is not yet at that level.

The INEC chairman, who spoke in Lagos at an interactive session with editors and media executives, explained that for this to happen, the country needs to clear all the apparent challenges and obstacles in its electoral process which continue to hinder organising its elections in one day.

"It is a good thing to do as in mature democracies. But quite frankly, we are not there yet. We have to clear all the challenges, so that we can do elections in one day," he stressed, adding that, "Kenya, a small country compared to Nigeria, if they had the opportunity, they would not have done their elections in one day."

Specifically, he said: "one-day elections have challenges regarding deployment of materials, enormouslogistics; because all materials must be moved at the same time. We would be insincere if we go all the route of having elections in one day."

However, he said although “there are systemic challenges, we cannot continue to give excuses. We must be trying to surmount the challenges.

Consequently, he said INEC decided that for the 2015 General Elections, “let us do it in two days. We, therefore, reviewed the sequence ofelections. We tried to be rational, logical and scientific in fixing the days of the elections".

Jega, who stated that with the benefit of hindsight, the commission has learnt a lot from the experience of the Anambra governorship polls, which would be impactful and relevant for the Ekiti and Osun states’ governorship elections for which electronic voter’s cards are already being distributed.

Highlighting specific measures already taken by the commission, the INEC chairman said: "In elections all over the world, ballot papers are serially numbered. Since 2011, we have ensured that all ballot papers are not only serially numbered, but also polling units. We have also ensured that result sheets are serially numbered. From Edo to Ondo governorship polls, we have customised our result sheets."

"Since 2011, we have also colour-coded our result sheets. So, you cannot take result sheets meant for one place to another. We colour-coded by states and by local governments; we even want to colour-code by constituencies."

He further explained that there are "other unique features which are not known to all people; some even to only the INEC chairman".

On personnel for elections, he said INEC has continued to involve the universities through the names generated by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

"This process has served us well. It was done in 2011, and Edo and Ondo states. We believe this is good and we would retain it. The ASUU generates the names of these lecturers for us," he said.

Jega, who revealed that the commission was considering involving other professional bodies such accountants and medical doctors through their professional bodies, stated that the use of National Youth Service Corps members for election process has also been immensely advantageous, despite the hazards which came with it.

And in restructuring INEC, he said the commission took a bold step to hire a consulting firm to properly assess its operations. At the end of the review, INEC was said to have been restructured, with the evolvement of a proper reward and punishment system without inflicting on the inherent civil service rules to deal with personnel.

"Also, we have embarked on training and retraining of our ad hoc staff. Instead of the hitherto three days training for our temporary staff, we will give them five days training for the Ekiti and Osun states polls," he revealed, while acknowledging the contributions of INEC development partners, especially with regard to training.

The commission chairman, who affirmed that he has great hopes the 2015 will be better, dismissed those who continued to say he is putting his credibility on the line regarding the INEC job.

"I am an incurable optimist about the country. What is credibility if it cannot be tested? So, I am doing just that. I am happy no one has asked me to do anything wrong which will put me in some difficulty. I am lucky,” he said.

But he added that he has his concerns.
"We are concerned about what politicians do and say, because all these have impact on the electoral process. So, we appeal to politicians not to be reckless in their utterances and not to bridge the electoral process," he said.

He explained that: "For example, we now have posters in some states for the 2015 elections. This is wrong. We have to keep imploring our politicians and parties to keep to the rule of the game."

On campaign ahead of time, all parties are guilty.

"We have warned them and drawn their attention to this. The law is 90 days to election. Parties are now holding rallies."

He, however, said although there is need to separate and navigate these timelines, once you say ‘vote for me’ before 90 days, you are guilty and all parties are guilty of this."

The INEC boss said it is also regrettable that politicians do not have gallantry in winning or losing.

"We must keep urging our politicians to obey the rules and be civil."

Also, Jega said that currently political parties lack capacity to put competent agents at every polling unit.

"So, if you don’t have information from the polling units, how do you prove any infringement? Political parties should have credible, trained agents at polling units. Over the years, we have been asking political parties to bring their agents for training, no party has brought anyone for training," he said.

Professor Jega, who said he remained hopeful that elections would hold everywhere in Nigeria, including the North East, said the commission has asked the National Assembly to amend the Electoral Act, without which there cannot be electronic voting in the country.

9  Forum / The Buzz Central / Woman Has Been Dead In Her House For 6 Years Before Being Discovered on: 7-03-2014 07:51 PM
image

For years, the payments went out of the woman’s bank account.
Nobody batted an eyelid. Bills werepaid. And life went on as normal in the quiet neighborhood of Pontiac, Michigan.

Neighbors didn’t notice anything unusual. The woman traveled a lot, they said, and kept to herself. One of them mowed her grass to keep things looking tidy.

At some point, her bank account ran dry. The bills stopped being paid.

After its warnings went unanswered, the bank holding the mortgage foreclosed on the house, a common occurrence in a region hit hard by economic woes. Still, nobody noticed what had happened inside the house. Nobody wondered out loud what had become of the owner.

Not until this week, when a worker sent by the bank to repair a hole in the roof made a grisly discovery.

The woman’s mummified body was sitting in the backseat of her car, parked in the garage. The key was halfway in the ignition.

Authorities say they believe the woman died at least six years ago. They’re still trying to figure out what happened.

"I’ve been doing this 37 years. Never seen anything like this before," said Undersheriff Mike McCabe of Oakland County, Michigan, just outside Detroit.

Rarely heard from...

The woman, who authorities aren’t identifying until they’ve informed her family, paid her bills from her bank account through auto-pay, according to McCabe.

Neighbors said they didn’t know much about the dead woman, describing her as in her 40s and of German descent.

"She really kept to herself. We never really heard anything from her," neighbor Caitlyn Talbot told CNN affiliate WXYZ.

Talbot said she wasn’t aware of anyone having seen the woman, who traveled a lot, in about six years.

"She was probably there for a couple of days, then she’d leave for a week, then she’d come back. Then she’d leave for a month and come back," Talbot said.

McCabe says neighbors chalked up the woman’s absences to her returning to Germany for long periods of time.

Despite years without a living owner, the house was never broken into, he said.

Authorities told WXYZ that the house appears to have black mold inside it, and that detectives entered the building Thursday wearing hazardous material suits.

Another neighbor, Darryl Tillery, told the Detroit Free Press that mail never piled up at the house and the lawn never grew out of order. McCabe said one of the neighbors cut the grass for years.

Cause of death undetermined...

Police were dispatched to the house for a welfare check in 2007 after a neighbor reported not having seen the owner in a while. After seeing no signs of anything amiss, police went on their way, McCabe said.

Authorities are still waiting for a toxicology report, which will take four to six weeks, before determining the cause of death. The medical examiner found no signs of trauma to the body, McCabe said.

Dr. Bernardino Pacris, the county deputy medical examiner who conducted the autopsy, told the Detroit Free Press that the woman’s skin was still intact, but that the internal organs had decomposed.

Pacris told the newspaper that during the mummification process, skin develops a parchment-like consistency and leathery texture. Finding a body in such a condition is unusual, he said, but "once in a while, we see this".

10  Forum / The Buzz Central / Kidnappers Of President Jonathan's Foster Father Reject N30m Ransom on: 7-03-2014 07:22 PM

The kidnappers of Chief Inengite Nitabai, President Goodluck Jonathan’s uncle, have allegedly rejected the N30 million offered by his family as ransom for his freedom.

According to a source, the abductors had contacted the victim’s family four days after he was whisked away demanding a whooping sum of N500 million as ransom to set him free.

Another source said the distressed Nitabai family instead offered to pay his abductors N30 million, which they rejected.
"They (the kidnappers) rejected the N30 million offer, which they described as laughable coming from a family linked to the president," the source said.

A security source confirmed the development, saying: "We are aware that the family is negotiating with the kidnappers and they are demanding N500 million, which the family described as outrageous. They instead offered to part with N30 million, which the kidnappers were said to have rejected. They said it was ‘unpresidential’ to give such a paltry sum to them. What will N30 million amount to when shared by all the interested parties in the abduction."

When the State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Alex Akhigbe, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), was contacted, the DSP said he was not aware of the demand. He, however, disclosed that its operatives deployed in the creeks are making progress in their search for the kidnapped chief.

Nitabai was kidnapped on Sunday, February 23, by unknown gunmen, suspected to be 10 in number, in his private Sport Utility Vehicle to a yet-to-be-ascertained destination.

Something amazing happened during South Africa's friendly with Brazil: a young fan made it to the field and when stewards were to remove the little man making his way to the players, Neymar stepped out to the delight of the boy and the audience.

Instead of being gently kicked out of the stadium, the boy was rescued by Barcelona superstar Neymar, who would give him a moment to remember.

Barca star scooped up the excited boy from pitch officials and carried him over to meet the Brazil squad to the applause and cheering of the huge crowd.

The little fan felt even more overwhelmed when the whole squad soon posed for photos with him, before Neymar published them on his official Twitter page. Lovely!!

A bogus bride was caught minutes before she could tie the knot with her fourth husband. Raquel Neto Furtado De Andrade had already married three Nigerians to help give them the right to stay in Britain, but her attempt to marry again for cash was foiled by suspicious staff at a register office.

They tipped off immigration officials about the bigamous 22-year-old, who used the same wedding dress at each ceremony.

Her scam was exposed at Harrow register office in north London. Checks revealed De Andrade had three ‘husbands’, none of which she had troubled to divorce.

The fourth groom, a 32-year-old Nigerian, was arrested with her and has been kicked out of the country.

The couple arrived at the register office on October 3 with hardly any family or friends to support them on their supposedly special day.

There were unexpected guests, however, in the shape of a team of immigration officers. They pounced as the bogus ceremony was about to get under way.

De Andrade, from Tottenham, north London, was charged with two counts of bigamy, two counts of facilitation and one count of perjury. She admitted the charges in February and was jailed at Harrow Crown Court on Tuesday.

The hunt is still on for her three other husbands so they can be deported too.

It is estimated that 15,000 of the marriages that take place in England and Wales each year are bogus. In January, an official report concluded the scams exploit a ‘massive loophole’ in border controls.

Non-EU citizens can acquire the right to live in Britain from any EU national staying there. This provides a ‘golden ticket’ for those wanting to stay in the country, according to immigration inspectors.

Most shams involve ‘Away Day Brides’ from Eastern Europe who come over for a few days to marry and then return to their home countries.

Most fake husbands are from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Nigeria.

Sarah Burton, head of the West London Home Office immigration enforcement team, said: "This was a cynical attempt to bypass immigration controls. De Andrade thought her plot would go unnoticed but our officers were one step ahead of the game and stopped the couple in their tracks."

"We are working closely with registrars across London and the UK to clamp down on sham weddings and civil partnerships. These convictions are examples of the success we are having."

"Where there are suspicions that a relationship may not be genuine we will investigate and, if necessary, intervene to stop it happening."

Susan Hall, leader of Harrow council, said: "We are working closely with the Home Office to tackle this issue. Our registrars are trained to spot and report marriages that may not be genuine. This serves as a clear warning that a jail term could awaitthose who try to abuse the system."

I'm wondering if this man would have been arrested if he slapped a pepper seller...

Anyways, according to a source, an official of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, identified as Taye Shittu, has been arrested by the police at Pen Cinema Police Station for allegedly slapping a Chief Magistrate, Mrs. Komolafe Abimbola of Court 2 Ikeja, Lagos, western Nigeria.

She was on her way to the office around Pen Cinema area of Agege when the incident happened on Wednesday.

Investigation revealed that Shittu accused Mrs. Abimbola of not obeying the traffic light and ordered her to come out of her car. She was said to have obeyed Shittu’s instruction after which there was an argument between them. During the argument Shittu was said to have slapped Mrs. Abimbola and she sustained injury on her face.

The victim reported the assault at Pen Cinema Police Station and Shittu was promptly arrested by the police.

While confirming the incident, Lagos State Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Damatus Ozoani, said the accused will be charged to court after the conclusion of police investigation.

An official of LASTMA who craved for anonymity, said the attitude of Shittu was an embarrassment to the authority.

A senior official of LASTMA who pleaded for anonymity also told the source that Shittu has been tried internally and was subsequently dismissed from LASTMA  and handed over back to the police for prosecution.

"We have conducted a board room trial for him and he has been dismissed from the service. We have also handed him over back to the police for prosecution. We do not condone such act in LASTMA," said the source.

As a result of the incident, it was learnt that the court Mrs. Abimbola is presiding over could not sit yesterday as litigants had to take adjourment for their cases.

When the source visited Pen Cinema Police Station this morning, Shittu was seen in handcuffs being taken to court by the police. Attempts to speak with Shittu proved futile as he refused to talk and also hid his face from camera.

19  Forum / Politics / Saraki’s Political Dynasty Over In Kwara– President Jonathan on: 4-03-2014 02:17 PM

President Goodluck Jonathan on Monday threw a massive electoral challenge to the supporters of the Saraki family, saying that the Saraki political dynasty is over in Kwara State.

The President also observed that the era of god-fatherism in politics is gone in the country at large.

Speaking at a reception tagged ‘Unity rally’ at Metropolitan Square, Asa Dam, Ilorin, Jonathan, who was accompanied by Vice President Namadi Sambo, PDP National Chairman, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu, Chairman, PDP Board of Trustees, Chief Tony Anenih, Senate President David Mark and other national leaders of the party, said PDP is the true party that is free of dictatorship.

His words: "As a President, I did not control the governor of Bayelsa State, my home State, because the party gives room for freedom and allows governors and ministers to work without being controlled."

"PDP is the only party that liberates people. It is only in PDP that you can come from nowhere like me and become President of the country. I can confirm now that the mammoth crowd here has shown that Kwara people are ready to free themselves."

"I am a President, but I have a governor I don’t have control over. We at the apex level of government can only monitor people in positions of authority to make them deliver dividends of democracy to the people, and we don’t dictate to them," he added.

He explained that his government is working based on the PDP manifesto, adding that Kwara State should expect more dividends of democracy and goodies from the Federal Government in due course.

President Jonathan maintained that the PDP remains the only party that can give the people of the state the freedom they desire, saying: “If you are not in PDP you are not in politics, as it is only PDP that can guarantee your freedom in the State and the country at large."

Emir of Ilorin and Chairman Kwara State Traditional Council, Mai-Martaba Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari has assured President Goodluck Jonathan of his helping hands in whatever areas he may sort for in advancing his political career.

The monarch stated this on Monday in Ilorin while receiving President Jonathan and members of his cabinet and national working committees of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, at his Palace.

The monarch who described the president as a leader with clear political records noted that Ilorin is peaceful and strategic to the peaceful co-existence of the nation serving as a gateway to the northern and southern parts.

"When you were serving as the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, you never knew you will become the Governor, when you were the Governor, you never knew you are going to become the Vice President nor acting President. But at long last, you finally became the President of the great nation in substantive capacity peacefully. All these are God’s work."

"It is the same God that we besiege to grant you what you are looking for peacefully," even as the emir presented a horse to the President as a mark of honour.

In his response, President Jonathan told the monarch that he had never be in Ilorin for negative rather, all his missions to the state have always been positive despite the ugly experiences of the Boko Haram insurgence in some states.

According him, "We are not yet here to campaign, when the time comes in about six to seven months time, we shall visit you again. At this time, we are here to formally receive decampees into our party and also give them the sense of brotherhood and belonging."

"When the time also comes, we shall introduce to you some of your illustrious sons and daughters we hope to use for various elective positions and seek your supports for our victories."
