Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Police impound ‘Presidency’ vehicle filled with Indian hemp |
on: 1-12-2010 08:08 AM
| The Edo State Police Command has announced the impoundment of a vehicle linked with the Presidency and loaded with 43 bags of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp.
The interception and impoundment of the vehicle came barely two weeks after the command intercepted a vehicle belonging to a member of the House of Representatives, which was used to convey weeds suspected to be Indian hemp by an aide of the lawmaker.
The vehicle, a Nissan pick-up, with registration number, Abuja HF 553 ABC, was reportedly intercepted by a team of highway patrol police officers on Oluku-Ahor Road, in Benin City, on Friday, November 26, 2010.
It was gathered that the occupants of the vehicle allegedly refused to stop when they were flagged down by the police, which forced policemen to go after them.
Apparently to escape arrest, the driver and the two other occupants of the vehicle abandoned the vehicle and fled into the bush, just as the police recovered the vehicle.
Upon a search, the police reportedly recovered two other vehicle number plates, Abuja BL 446 ABJ, and Presidency-PF 3042 SP/T, as well as the 43 bags of weeds.
Police spokesman, Awhara Ejiroro, said the police were yet to trace the vehicle to anyone and that investigations were still ongoing.

Forum / Politics / Council of State approves N18,000 minimum wage |
on: 26-11-2010 05:36 AM
| THE National Council of State on Thursday endorsed a minimum wage of N18,000 for all Nigerian workers. The endorsement was made public at a briefing held after the Council meeting presided over by President Goodluck Jonathan at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The governors of Jigawa, Gombe, Akwa Ibom, Imo and Lagos states jointly addressed newsmen after the meeting.
The National Council of State is the highest national advisory body to the government and is made up of all former presidents and heads of state as well as governors.
Governor Sule Lamido of Jigawa State said the Council advised Jonathan to send a bill on the national minimum wage to the National Assembly for passage into law.
He said the decision was taken by the Council to ensure that all workers live a decent life.
Speaking in the same vein, Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State said the Council believed that the decision would lay to rest the labour crisis over wages.
Akpabio said the national minimum wage of N18,000 was applicable to both federal and state government workers.
He said the law also compelled private sector organisations with a minimum of 50 workers on its pay roll to pay the minimum wage to its workers.
The governor said the Council also advised President Jonathan to remove the national minimum wage from the exclusive legislative bill.
He said such a step would allow each state government to negotiate with its workers on a convenient and acceptable minimum wage to be paid.
Corroborating this position, Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State said there were states rich enough to pay more than the N18,000 benchmark while it might be difficult for others to pay.
Fashola also said there was a move for a review of the national minimum wage with respect to the private sector by reviewing the number of employees downwards from 50 workers.
In his remarks, Governor Danjuma Goje of Gombe State said that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) chairman, Professor Attahiru Jega, briefed the Council on the preparedness of his Commission for the conduct of free, fair and credible elections in 2011.
He said Council expressed satisfaction with the preparedness of INEC and wished its chairman well.
Governor Ikedi Ohakim of Imo State said while the Council expressed satisfaction with the clear and graphic presentation by INEC, it raised concerns over logistics and challenges of implementation.
Former presidents, Shehu Shagari and Olusegun Obasanjo, were at the meeting.
Also in attendance were former head of state, General Muhammadu Buhari and the head of the Interim National Government, Chief Ernest Shonekan.

Forum / Family / Housewife dies in hotel room during sex |
on: 26-11-2010 05:35 AM
| A middle-aged housewife, Bilikisu Muyideen, died during sex with a man identified as Wahab Adesina at Yemetu, in Ibadan North Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The man was said to have taken the woman to a hotel around Yemetu when the woman suddenly slumped and died a few minutes after entering the room.
Nigerian Tribune gathered that the illicit affair, which had been on for a while, blew open on Wednesday night when the woman collapsed and died.
When the Nigerian Tribune visited the area on Thursday, nobody was ready to give details of what happened between the two love birds.
A source disclosed that it was shocking news when the news went round that the woman, identified as Iya Ojo, died in a hotel room.
The source said that the matter was immediately reported at the Yemetu police station.
According to the source, the love birds were not husband and wife.
When the Nigerian Tribune visited the police station on Thursday, the man had been detained.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Olatunji Ajimuda, who confirmed the incident, said it was not a murder, since the woman died before the man could ‘touch’ her. He, however, said an autopsy would have to be carried out.

Forum / Relationships & Romance / Man Sacks Wife For Refusing Him Bosom Milk |
on: 22-11-2010 07:02 PM
| A middle-aged man, Awaraju (surname removed), has sacked his wife for refusing him Bosom milk. The couple, until the incident, resided in a storey building on Okpanam Road , Asaba, Delta State .
LEADERSHIP SUNDAY gathered that the couple were married for several years before their first baby arrived. But unlike most African homes where new babies are celebrated with joy, their baby’s arrival was marked with invidiousness and malice, as son and father locked horns over the esteemed Bosom milk of its mother. While expressing shock at the dissolution of the union, neighbours expressed disapproval at the man’s insistence on sucking with his son, even though those in the know told him it was bad.
Sources told LEADERSHIP SUNDAY that, upon her refusal because she could no longer cope with Bosom feeding father and son, Awaraju began to threaten his wife, asking her to submit within a day or risk divorce.
The couple failed to reconcile their differences. A few days later, the man ignored the interventions of friends and neighbours and sent his wife packing. The nursing mother (his wife), a staff of the state-owned polytechnic, and her husband have since separated, a situation family members described as madness and an abomination.
However, for the angry husband, it is either his wife gives him access to the Bosom with his newborn baby or stays out of his life.
A relation of the woman, Esther Ovieme, told our correspondent that frantic efforts were still being made to reconcile the couple who had lived peacefully before the baby arrived.
