Imo State Governor, Chief Rochas Okorocha, has described Imolites as “very difficult to govern”, following a plethora of petitions and scathing opposition coming from several quarters.

Chief Okorocha gave the verdict when he had a breakfast meeting with members of Independent Newspaper Publishers Association, INPA, in Government House, Owerri.

He lamented that despite massive road construction, his free education to the tertiary level, construction of general hospitals in the 27 local council areas, all geared towards uplifting the welfare of the citizenry, “some people are still not appreciative of my efforts”.

The Governor sympathized with former governors Achike Udenwa and Chief Ikedi Ohakim over what they passed through while in office and came to the conclusion that “Imo people are very difficult to govern”.

Continuing, Chief Okorocha expressed shock that rather than partner with him in developing the state, some people busy themselves with waging battles at all costs against him.

He recalled what his administration passed through in the hands of Owerri people when he wanted to build a hospitality industry in the disputed Area K, World Bank Housing Estate, Owerri, stressing that the project has now been transferred to Oguta.

A 17-year-old girl, Titilayo Ojo, of Kado village of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja was on Thursday arraigned at an Abuja Senior Magistrates’ Court for committing adultery with her neighbour’s husband.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Sim Emmanuel, told the court that on August 30, 2012, one Mrs. Idongesit Sunday of Kado village, Abuja, reported the accused at the Life Camp Police station.

Emmanuel said Sunday reported that she caught the accused having segxwal intercourse with her husband on her matrimonial bed on August 29, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.

He added that when Sunday picked up a quarrel with her husband over the incident, he poured a pot of boiling water, which contained pepper, on her.

Emmanuel told the court that Sunday had since been admitted at the Asokoro General Hospital, following injuries she sustained in the attack.

He said that the accused was charged with adultery, adding that the offence was  punishable under Section 388 of the Penal Code.

The accused, however, pleaded ‘not guilty’ to the charge.

The Senior Magistrate, Abdullahi Illelah, therefore, granted the accused bail in the sum of N50,000 with a surety in like sum.

Illelah ordered that the surety must be a reasonable and reliable Nigerian who must a known and of definite address within the jurisdiction of the court.

The case was adjourned to September 12, 2012 for further hearing.

For allegedly molesting a 10-year-old girl (name withheld), a 62-year-old, Mr. John Osunade, has been remanded in prison custody by an Osogbo Magistrate’s Court.

The charge sheet read in court on Tuesday accused Osunade of perpetrating the act on May 27, 2012, at his residence in Tonkere village, Gbongan town in Ayedaade Local Government Area, Osun State.



When his plea was taken, the accused pleaded not guilty to the one-count of rape.

Police prosecutor, Inspector Elisha Olusegun, said the offence was punishable under Section 218 of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Volume II, Laws of Osun State of Nigeria, 2003.

Defence prosecutor, Mr. Reginald Ngwu, urged the court to admit the accused to bail, adding that Osunade remained innocent until the contrary was proved in court.

Ngwu, who said Osunade was ready to face trial, added that the accused would provide reliable sureties if granted bail.

But the Magistrate, Mr. Olusola Aluko, ordered the accused to be remanded in custody, adding that the court would entertain Osunade’s bail application in written form and not in oral.

Aluko adjourned the case until Wednesday, July 4, 2012, for mention.
