The Joint Military Task Force claimed on Tuesday it had uncovered plans by Boko Haram to strike in the North during Eid-el-kabir (Thursday and Friday).

The JTF also alleged that the Islamic fundamentalists had been receiving assistance from foreign militants to carry out their deadly attacks.

In a statement, the JTF spokesman, Lt.-Col. Sagir Musa, said the group was planning to attack worship centres and other public places.

The statement said, “Information available to the Joint Task Force indicates that the Boko Haram terrorists are planning to launch massive attacks on military and civilian targets in Borno State before, during and after the forthcoming Sallah celebrations.

“The terrorists have invited foreign militant groups to assist them in the anticipated attacks.

“We know where they are coming from but we don’t want to disclose that because we don’t want to pre-empt our security arrangement to tackle them.”

Boko Haram members are believed to have sought training in northern Mali from Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb and its allies. There has been intense speculation over whether other links have been formed with foreign groups.

The JTF has claimed that insurgents from neighbouring Chad have previously fought alongside Boko Haram.

An iPad is a line of tablet computers designed and marketed by Apple Inc. The iPad runs Apple's iOS operating system. The first iPad was released on April 3, 2010.

Apple has unveiled a mini version of its iPad, Apple Ipad Mini.
Apple, which in the past had resisted making a smaller iPad, sought to emphasize that the mini was not inferior to its 9.7-inch device, which was unveiled in 2010 and has since dominated the tablet market.

“It is every inch an iPad,” Phil Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of worldwide marketing, told the crowd moments after introducing the long-rumored device.
The iPad mini’s screen has a resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels, the same as an iPad 2 and around a quarter of the resolution of the third-generation iPad.

Are Church-Owned Universities meant for the rich and famous ONLY?

The Chancellor of Covenant University (CU), Ota, Ogun State and the Bishop of Living Faith Worldwide, Dr. David Oyedepo, has said that the foundation for the third of the planned seven universities of the church will be laid in January, next year.



Bishop Oyedepo spoke yesterday during a media briefing to mark the 10th anniversary of Covenant University. He said his intervention in education sector was to prove that sanity could still return to the much troubled sector in the country. He said the plan to establish four universities in Nigeria and three others to be spread in West, Central and East African nations was part of the church’s resolve to reclaim the lost glories in the continent. The cleric said the third UNIVERSITY, which will be named Crown University, would be sited in Calabar, Cross Rivers State. The university will primarily focus on Maritime studies.

Bishop Oyedepo blamed the rot in the nation’s education system on what he described as ill-advised decision of the government to take over schools from the missionaries. He said the foundation of education in the country cannot be discussed without the influence of the missionaries, who he said established the first school in Badagry in 1843.

However, it is a well known fact that Fees of Church-owned universities in Nigeria per semester: Bowen University – N650,000, Covenant University – N640,000, Benson Idahosa – N500, 000, Babcock University – N450, 000, Redeemers University – N375, 000, Ajayi Crowther University – N350, 000, Fountain University, Oshogbo – N320,000.

A man named Samuel Alayande had worked more than half of his life for his church. Not because he had the calling, but he chose to be dedicated in any church activity.

He and his wife whom she married in the church were never found wanting in any church activity. Just as they made donations to keep the church activity afloat, they gave their energies for any labour required in the church.

They considered whatever service as necessary not only for spiritual gain but also for the expansion of the church. The church then decided to own a university, members contributed hugely with every remaining kobo in their pockets. Alayande, like other poor members gave N9 out of every N10 he had.

Apart from giving his meager earnings in offerings, tithes and donations to the church in order to bring the project to fruition, he and members of his family worked tirelessly for the project. They cleared the bushes, they toil the ground during the foundation process, carried blocks, carried bags of cements just to ensure the project came to lime light.

Few years after, Alayande’s sons and daughters who grew in the church could not study in the church-owned university because their parents could not afford the huge fees charged by the institution they helped to build. Alayande’s case typifies one of the several cases of how the poor is massively working for the rich.

It is no news that several church-owned universities were built on the donations, offerings and tithes from the poor members of the church. Even when they had no more money to put into the construction, they gave their sweat and toil; doing all kinds of manual labour to actualise the completion of what they often refer to as their own universities.

Yet, these people, after the completion of the project, can’t afford the fees, they can’t have their children trained in the universities they helped to build.

Ironically, the manipulation of the poor continues even as their regular offerings and tithes are used to service the day to day running of these institutions that have become the exclusive preserve of the rich.

In spite of the phenomenal rise in the number of private universities in the country, not less than N1million is paid yearly by parents who have their children in these private universities. How many of the poor members of religious bodies can afford this huge amount to have their children trained in these institutions for at least four years?

Bolaji, a young brilliant chap with excellent JAMB and Post-UME results which qualified him to study medicine had his hope of studying in the university owned by his church dashed merely because his parents who are members of the church could not afford the fees.

Another young man also lamented why he had to leave a particular church as a result of what he described as injustice – taking from the poor to give to the rich.

Just as others grumble in silence on the trend of funding a church-owned university but can’t benefit from it, others believe that tithes and offerings are commandments from God and should be obeyed.

They believe the reward is in heaven as they continued to donate generously from their meager resources whether they can afford to send their children to the school or not.

Among the prominent Christian Mission universities whose fees are between N400- N500,000 per semester are Babcock University, Ilishan-Remo, Ogun State; Covenant University, Canaan Land, Ota; Redeemers University, Landmark University, Omu-Aran, Kwara State; Crawford University, Igbesa, Ogun State; Veritas University, Novena University, Ogume, Delta State; Wesley University of Science and Technology, Ondo, Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo, Fountain University, Oshogbo, to name a few.



QUESTIONS:

1. Why doesn't he ( Bishop David Oyedepo) use the money and other resources for the seven 'universities' to create a world-class university? It would be better than having seven manageable universities.

2. Should he stop establishing more universities and face one with standard campuses!

AT least, 10 Bus Rapid Transport, BRT, vehicles were yesterday vandalized by protesting commercial motorcycle operators, popularly called Okada riders, at Onipanu, along Ikorodu Road. They were protesting the enforcement of the Lagos Road Traffic Law. Following the violent protest, the Lagos State House of Assembly expressed concern over increasing lawlessness of commercial operators in the state and threatened to outrightly ban their activities if they refused to conform. The violent protest which caused pandemnium and left many
commuters stranded at various bus stops on the busy road and adjoining ones may not be unconnected to the aggressive enforcement of the Traffic Law in accordance with the order of the state Commissioner of Police.

It also caused heavy traffic gridlock along Ikorodu Road and others.

It was learnt that the commissioner, worried by the flagrant disobedience to law, issued marching order to Divisional Police Officers, DPOs, in the state to mobolise their men for enforcement.

Vanguard gathered that several motorcycles were impounded in the process.

As a result, the entire Awolowo Road up to Secretariat, Aluasa, were deserted by the motorcycle operators.

The aggrieved Okada operators were said to have stormed the dedicated BRT Bus Stop as early as 9:00a.m, denouncing the enforcement of the law on 475 roads in the state, indiscriminate arrests and alleged extortion by men of the Nigeria police and Lagos State Traffic Management Authority. .

Governor Babatunde Fashola had on August 3 signed into law the new road traffic law.

The protesters were said to have pelted every BRT vehicle they came across at Onipanu with stones and other dangerous weapons without considering the safety of over 50 passengers onboard. According to one Mr. Emmanuel Abel, forced hundreds of passengers at the Bus Stop to scamper for safety.

The Federal Government has declared Thursday and Friday as public holidays to mark the 2012 Eid El-Kabir celebrations. The Minister of Interior, Abba Moro who announced this in Abuja on Monday, called on Nigerians to imbibe and emulate the worthy tenets of Islam as practiced by the holy Prophet Mohammad.
A statement by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of interior, Daniel Nwaobia quoted Mr Moro as urging the citizens to pray for peace and prosperity of the nation.

Well, let’s get down to the nitty-gritty, let’s start by knowing the meaning of a POEM.
A Poem can be describe as a literary composition characterized by the presence of imagination, emotion, truth, sense of impression and concrete language expressed rhythmically.

In poetry, we have what is called STANZA. A poem is usually written in divisions known as Stanzas. The division could contain two or more lines.

“THE BASTARD”

A young teenager
has been deceived
regretting a new being was born.
Walking alone down a lonely path
Sweet sorrow surrounds Sonia,
crying in pain the new being.

How I long for you to hold me
to taste the natural milk
planted in you...
Ignorance is a diseases
young teenager who lacks
the tender heart of a mother

Tarried for two days
no food, no shelter.
oh! Lonely Bastard
I looked up above the sky
father in heaven save me.

A sound came with a bark
it was a scary creature
smelt my presence,
licked my exposed abdomen
nervous and frightened
is death drawing near?

Gathered by unknown faces

News making the rounds says American Hip hop rapper, Drake has just graduated from high school at the age of 25 with 88% in the course.
Drake dropped out of school at the age of 15 to pursue his fame. At the time, he was to co-star on a TV show, Degrassi: The Next Generation, a Canadian TV show. He was studying at Vaughan Road Academy in Canada. Drake made it known through his twitter page and Facebook wall. He wrote, “97% on my final exam. 88% in the course. One of the greatest feelings in my entire life. As of tonight I have graduated high school!”
Drake was named No. 6 on “Forbes”‘s Hip-Hop Cash Kings list, earning $20.5 million from May 2011 to May 2012.



Drake’s mother was not happy when his son decided to leave school and right now, she is happy that he has managed to complete. She is a retired educator Sandi Graham.
At one point in his life, he was lost in his teenage days, Drake knew he wanted to do music, but he dropped out of high school against his mother’s wishes. But today, he has finished his high school and is planning to further his education.

Amber Jacobs, 6, is to be crowned world’s youngest DJ.Amber will go in the record books when she hosts her own show at The Swan Inn in Evesham on October 28.Amber Jacobs, from Pershore, Worcestershire, has been DJing for six months on internet station TBFM Online with dad Steve.


Amber  takes over the playlist of The Sunday Service and introduces her own choice of tracks.
Amber, or DJ AJ as she’s known, much prefers heavy metal wildmen such as Ozzy Osbourne and Rob Zombie.

“I really enjoy playing my favourite songs and listening to bands I like,” she said.
“I like being in control of the desk and playing with the controls.“I play rock music – I like it way more than anything on the X Factor,” she added.

Nollywood actress, Oge Okoye has been honoured with a doctorate degree by Wisconsin International University, USA. The beautiful actress was awarded today, Friday, October 19, 2012 at an event held at The Auditorium, NECA House, Central Business District, Ikeja, Lagos.
In a chat with Nigeriafilms.com, Oge disclosed to us that her movie role in the film 'Fulani' gave her the honour being bestowed on her today. She revealed that she is very happy to be honoured by the American university.


A belated Oge was all smile today at the ceremony. When Nigeriafilms.com asked Oge how she would preferred to be addressed; either Oge Okoye or Dr Oge Okoye, the actress said she would prefer both.

Oge Okoye presently at the peak of her acting career in Nigeria.

A Chinese man has kept the body of this dead son in a freezer for six years now, Asian News reports Xueming Tian who hails from Huangling, Chongqing, a town in southern China, did not want to be apart from his son. He decided to put the body of his son in a freezer where he goes each day to chat with him together with other family members.
Xueming Tian bought generators to keep the freezer running in case of a blackout. He says that this has kept the body of his son intact as though he were alive.

“It makes me feel as if my son has never left me,” Tian said. “When my wife and I want to talk to him, we can just pull up some chairs, lift the lid and chat with him as if he had never been taken from us.”
According to Tian, his clever son had just started college when they found out his son’s incurable leukemia.

“We were devastated. We visited many doctors, but there was nothing else we could do. I just prayed we would not lose him,” Mr. Tian said.
“When he died, I just couldn’t face never seeing my child again, so we decided to put him in a freezer to preserve his body.”
Tian Xueming however plans to bury his son some time later. “One day the time will come when his mother and I can no longer look after him and we will then give him a proper burial, but now is not the time. When the time is right, we will give him the most dignified burial and have a celebration of his life, and invite everyone to pay their respects to him. But later.”

Hong Xiuquan the man who claimed he was Jesus’ brother is still a sounding name in Chinese history. Europeans has dismissed Hong Xiuquan’s claims to be Jesus’ brother, but according to a historian who narrates his life, he was never bothered.
Jonathan Fenby who has written about the history of China says that Hong Xiuquan who is one of the men who led peasant rebellions in China in the 19th Century one time fell into some kind of depressive fit and he had a vision.

He then imagined he’d gone up to the skies and there he had met a very tall man with a long beard and thick belt who had told him to come back to Earth and eradicate the demons on Earth.
Hong Xiuquan told his followers that the man he had seen up in the sky was the Christian God, that he, Hong, was the brother of Jesus, and that the devils he had to exterminate on Earth were the Qing dynasty, which was then ruling China and of course was not Chinese. Hong Xiuquan later declared a heavenly kingdom on the Yangtze.

Hong and his disciples took to the road, selling writing brushes and ink and spreading the good news about the heavenly kingdom as they went. The movement grew fast in south-west China.
“When people of this earth keep nothing for their private use, but give all things to God for all to use in common, then every place shall have equal shares, and everyone be clothed and fed,” Hong declared.
Some sources say Hong committed suicide by taking poison on 1 June 1864 at the age of 52 after Qing authorities finally gained a decisive military advantage and all hope of maintaining his kingdom was lost. However, in other sources, he was said to have died of illness.

Hong Rengan, Hong Xiuquan’s cousin, said his illness was caused by “eating manna” – a command taken from the Bible that Hong had given to his people as they starved.
On 30 July 1864, Qing general Li Chendian found Hong’s badly decomposed body in the palace of Nanjing.

Hong was succeeded by his teenage son, Hong Tianguifu. Hong Xiuquan’s rebellion that caused at least 10 million deaths was suppressed by Qing forces later in 1864.

Guests have already started arriving for the wedding ceremony for actress Jessica Biel and singer fiance, Justin Timberlake.
The two got enganged in 2011 after Timberlake popped the question last year, December.

The two are said to have chosen a romantic setting for their wedding, a Southern Italian villa, a place which means a lot to them. However, the guests have been flown to a location near Naples. Among the invited are Andy Samberg, music producer Timbaland in addition to other close friends.

“The event has been shrouded in a lot of secrecy, and not even the guests were told the exact location or day of the wedding before they left,” an insider told the New York Post. “It is their favorite place, a location that is very special to them.”
The couple started dating in 2007 and split sometime in 2011 before quickly reconciling. Justin popped the question while snowboarding in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.
“She’s a really, really, really special person,” Justin said earlier this month of the actress. “Plus, she’s really, really, hot!”
It is believed that the two are going to get married this weekend although no date has been revealed yet.

Some of Biel’s movie credits include 7th Heaven, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003), Blade: Trinity (2004), I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry (2007), The A-Team (2010), New Year’s Eve (2011), and Total Recall (2012).

Former Super Eagles goal keeper and captain, Peter Rufai, yesterday night suddenly slumped inside his office. The football Icon, 49, was rushed to Toki Hospital off Adeniran Ogunsanya, Surulere where doctors are doing everything they can to stabilize him. His younger brother Bruce Rufai said he's yet to come around and doctors don't know yet why he slumped. Bruce told sports journalist, Kayode Tijani, that Peter has been taking the death of their 78 year old mother badly since her passing some days ago.
