Motorcyclist Sells Nurse To Ritual Killers For N10,000

A commercial motorcyclist, identified simply as Ifeanyi, has been arrested for allegedly handing over a nurse, Mrs. Helen Ilonge, to ritual killers after collecting N10, 000.

PUNCH Metro learnt that Ilonge had on Tuesday last week took Ifeanyi’s motorcycle on her way to Igoli along the Ogoja-Ikom Highway in Ogoja LGA.

Ilonge, the coordinator of Primary Health Care in Bekwarra Local Government Area of Cross River State, was coming from a programme at the Assemblies of God Church, Abakaliki in Ebonyi State, and had alighted from a vehicle at Okpongrinya junction before taking the bike.

It was gathered that Ilonge (51) was beheaded while her other vital reproductive parts such as bosom and womanliness were removed for ritual purposes.

Ilonge’s neighbour, Mrs. Theresa Idagwu, on Sunday said, “Ifeanyi took the lady from Okpogrinya Junction on the pretence that he was taking her to the village, which is 10 minutes drive from the point. But along the way, he stopped and handed her over to kidnappers at Ukpe.

Meanwhile, the woman had called her daughter, Victoria, around 9pm that she had taken a bike at Okpogrinya Junction on her way to Igoli. She said when she gets to her destination; she would call again so that Victoria would boil water for her to take her bath. That was Ilonge’s last call.”

Repeated calls made to the woman’s line, according to Idagwu, indicated that it was switched off.

She said Ilonge’s family became worried when the woman did not return home. “We went everywhere- police stations, hospitals and even her friends in Igoli, thinking that may be an accident had occurred along the road but we got nothing,” Idagwu added.

Two days later, Idagwu said someone called Victoria on her phone and informed her that her mother had been kidnapped. The caller demanded a ransom of N50, 000 to be remitted in form of recharge cards.

She said, “Since her daughter could not raise the money, she rushed to the Bekwarra LGA headquarters where the head of administration, Mr. Bisong Bogbo, and the chairman, Mr. Linus Edeh, provided the money with which she bought recharge cards and sent to the caller.

“The voice claimed that he needed the recharge cards so he could sell and run away from his master who is a ritual killer. He claimed that he had been serving his master for a long time and wanted to run away. He said once he gets the cards, he will break the door where the nurse is being kept and release her.”

The LGA’s head of administration, Bogbo, confirmed that the cards were sent to the kidnapper through Victoria’s telephone.

He said immediately the alleged kidnapper confirmed receipt of the cards; he switched off his telephone.

Luck, however, ran out of Ifeanyi. Policemen tracked his telephone line and discovered that he called Victoria from Abuochiche.

Further investigations, it was gathered, showed that Ifeanyi had been selling the cards in the village immediately he got them.

When he was arrested, Bogbo told our correspondent that Ifeanyi led the police to one of the ritual killers identified simply as Elvis.

Elvis, according to Bogbo, confessed that the nurse had already been killed and some of her vital organs removed before Ifeanyi asked for the recharge cards.

Elvis also said the remains of the woman were buried in a swamp.

At the council headquarters, one of the late nurse’s colleagues, Mr. Gabriel Ogar, said she was probably the kindest woman he ever worked with.

Ogar said, “I have worked with five coordinators, but I know that she is just the best so far. She worked to the admiration of Governor Liyel Imoke and now she has been killed leaving her five children without a helper.

“Her husband died 12 years ago and since then she has been the one taking care of the children and only one has graduated. Please let the government do something for those poor children.”

When contacted on Monday, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Osita Ezechukwu, said the police were still investigating the matter.

He said four suspects had been apprehended by the anti-homicide unit, adding that when the investigation was completed the suspects would be prosecuted.

“We have taken confessional statement from them. Those who are not involved have been allowed to go while those who are involved are still in detention,” Ezechukwu said.

Businessman molests 2-year-old girl in Calabar, attempts to bribe mother with N50,000

A popular businessman in Ogoja, northern Cross River State, southsouth Nigeria, has been arrested for allegedly molesting a two-year old girl (name withheld).

The man, Mr. James Eze, was detained by the police after he was arrested for allegedly having carnal knowledge of the child.

Eze, who owns a well-known Edoh Pharmacy located on I, Mission Road, Igoli Ogoja, allegedly lured the girl into his office where he defiled her and thereafter gave her N25 to buy sweets.

Eze was alleged to have defiled the girl for ritual purposes as he “collected the blood that gushed from the girl’s private part with a white handkerchief. The handkerchief is now with the police,” an eyewitness says.

Mrs. Josephine Ibeh, the mother of the victim who owns a beer parlour at the back of the building where Edoh Pharmacy is located, said her daughter came back and told her that blood was coming out of her private part and on close examination she realised that she had been defiled.

“I saw that her private part had wound and was bleeding profusely, and when I asked her what happened, she told me that Edoh put his p*****s inside her,” Ibeh said.

Mrs. Ibeh said the girl’s private part was severely damaged by the suspect and when she confronted him, he gave her money to pacify her.

“When I confronted Edoh, he brought out N50,000 and told me to take the girl to the hospital, saying that it was the devil that pushed him to do it,” she said as tears streamed down her cheeks.

Mrs. Eze said the matter was reported to the police at the Divisional Headquarters in Ogoja and the man was arrested while the girl was taken to the General Hospital Ogoja where she was stitched.

A doctor at the hospital, who pleaded anonymity, says the girl had “four stitches as the tear was deep and the lacerations caused by the forced entry wide.”

A source at the Divisional Police Headquarters confirmed that Edoh is in their custody and may not be given bail immediately going by the inflamed passion in the town over the act.

“We suspect ritual purpose for the man’s act because that man is rich enough to have any woman of his choice in this town. The white handkerchief the man used to collect the blood is in our custody,” the police source said.

The matter, the source added, would soon be transferred to the state police Command Headquarters in Calabar.

Enugu poisoned meat: 6 dead, 60 hospitalized
From KASSIDY UCHENDU, Nsukka

No fewer than six people have been reported dead and over 60 hospitalized in Amegu village, Ede-Oballa in Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State

following an alleged poisoning of pork meat they took at a funeral ceremony.

According to reports from Ede-Oballa, more than 60 guests developed severe stomach problems after the funereal ceremony, prompting their immediate hospitalization. Investigation by Sunday Sun showed that all the popular hospitals in the university town of Nsukka including the Catholic Mission- owned Bishop Shanahan have been flooded with the victims who were said to be in critical conditions. A woman was said to be the first casualty of the meat poisoning followed by three girls while it was feared that two others who are not natives of the community also died.

It was gathered that a pig farmer who sold the infected animal to a woman (name withheld) who hosted the funeral, was in police net. Hospital sources expressed apprehension over the survival of the victims, saying they ought to have been rushed to the hospital same night. “In a situation like this, victims should be rushed to the hospital promptly for early stomach wash”, said a hospital source. The source however said frantic efforts are being made to save the lives of the victims Another reliable source suspected that guests at the funeral might have been served the meat of a dead pig injected by a veterinary doctor.

The source said the owner of the pig (name withheld) had lied to the woman that the pig fell into a ditch. Apparently due to the intimidating size of the pig and its relative cheapness, the woman quickly entered a bargain and bought the meat not knowing it was sick and had been treated recently by a veterinary doctor who also advised that in the event of its death, the animal should be buried. A source quoted the doctor who has been quizzed by the police as saying that he advised the pig farmer to bury the animal if it died within three weeks of the injection.

The tragic incident has caused tension in Nsukka zone where pigs are used at funeral ceremonies as an imperative and status symbol. It was gathered that since the incident, guests at burial ceremonies in the area have been avoiding pork. This has created problems for pig farmers who have lost patronage due to the tragedy.

Our reporter could not reach the veterinary doctor at the time of filing this report. A senior police officer attached to the Nsukka Urban Police Command said that some of the guests and the pig farmer were helping the police in their investigation.

26-Year-Old Man Jailed For Stealing Church Offering In Lagos.

When Onyeka Eze stormed God’s Pentecostal Mission aka GPM located in the highly density Iba, a suburb of Lagos penultimate Sunday just like every other worshipers, little did they know that he had an ulterior motive.

Propelled by villainous intent, after the service that night, the congregation dispatched only for Eze, 26, to return at the wee hour of the following morning and attempted to do away with the church’s property.

Nemesis caught up with the lad who hails from eastern part of the country when the noise of his action attracted the senior pastor’s attention. He came out of his office and saw Eze with some undisclosed amount and gas cylinders belonging to the church.

Narrating how Eze broke into the Holy House to the Ojo Magistrate court, the police in-charge of the case, Corporal Israel said:

“The convict on Monday, September 16, 2012 broke into the God’s Pentecostal Mission aka GPM, situated in Iba area of Lagos and was trying to elude with some church money and gas cylinders belonging to the church. It was end of the road for him when his movement woke the senior pastor who was sleeping in his office located within the church premises.

Apparently remorseful, the convict, who resides at Ijankin in Lagos admitted he was guilty of the charges against him with flimsy reasons after several denials.
His words: “I am guilty of the charges against me. It was the devil that pushed me into the act. I don’t have a job; I’m a conductor and needed some money for myself that was why I decided to go to the House of God. I’ve not stolen before, this is my first time and I promise never to do it again. I swear to God I will repent and I want the court to tamper justice with mercy’’ he pleaded.

The presiding Magistrate, T.O Shomade after several trial, sentenced the accused to six months imprisonment without option of fine. “This would serve as warning to other youths who hide under the influence of penury to commit crimes as such act contravenes the law’’ he said.

I’M SEVEN MONTHS PREGNANT FOR FUNKE AKINDELE’S HUSBAND – SINGLE MOTHER OF TWO KIDS

A Lagos trader, Modinat Nike Dada, in her late 30s  is seven  months  pregnant for Funke Akindele’s husband, Kehinde Oloyede, E24-7 MAGAZINE  can authoritatively reveal. Modinat, mother of two boys and popularly known as Mama Dayo,  was formerly married to a man simply known as Dayo. Both have since separated. The marriage crashed some years back due to irreconcilable differences and alleged domestic abuse.  Her former hubby was a wife beater, alleged some sources.

” But when the situation became life threatening she had to leave the man and joined her elder sister, a successful clothing merchant  in her shop at Oshodi.
Her former hubby, Dayo, was a graduate of Ogun State Polytechnic, Abeokuta. Not a few family members were surprised to know that the marriage did not last because they were like two inseparable lovebirds when they were dating.   The former hubby took the two children away from her and kept them in her mother’s custody in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State.  Though life threw a big storm at her, she found solace in the love and care from her immediate siblings who were not only always around her but promptly responds to her needs.   Modinat in her late 30s quickly picked her life up and became industrious. She traded in some fast consuming goods which she was selling in wholesale to retailers.

When she finally moved to her sister’s shop, her path crossed with Kehinde Oloyede, popularly known as Kendoo.  Incidentally, Kendoo , a property merchant is the landlord of her sister’s shop in Oshodi. He found in her a good and amiable friend and as fate would have it, she found herself in his arms.
Modinat and Kendoo instantly became an item and they were seen together at some of their close friends’ private parties.  The romance thickened, they shared great moments together  and there was pressure to get pregnant.  Not once or twice inside sources said the   Ota, Ogun State-born trader was accompanied to  several spiritualists and gynecologists  by Kendoo in their bid  to seal their romance with a baby.  Sometimes in March, she got pregnant and filled with joy, she announced to her lover-boy, who close sources said was not ecstatic about it. “He practically took off, he stopped coming to her house, shunned all entreaties and stopped picking her calls,” E24-7 MAGAZINE’s source hinted.   The following month, Modinat was shocked to read in magazines and newspapers that Kendoo wanted to marry the Return of Jenifa’s  star actress, Funke Akindele.  She was devastated, flustered but once again, her family rose and stood firmly behind her.

In the last few months, Modinat has been under intense pressure to keep her mouth sealed and advised to avoid the media.  Sources close to her confirmed that she has been inundated with calls by several people close to the famous actress, Funke Akindele, to keep a low profile and keep  the ‘family’s’ dirty linen away from the public.  She has been promised juicy offers if she delivers without spilling the bean and grudgingly she has accepted.  Modinat, who currently lives in a tastefully furnished apartment in Agege area of Lagos has accepted her fate and rejoices in the fact that the baby she is expecting would bring joy back to her again.  Since her former hubby took her two boys away she has not set her eyes on them, she feared the estranged hubby might move them abroad and cut her  links to them forever. Her consolation is in the baby she’s expecting to be her companion in years to come.  As it were, Funke Akindele’s hubby with five kids already is expecting in the next few months three additional children in his harem.  His second wife, Fadekemi is in the last trimester of her pregnancy and is due to deliver soon. Modinat will also have her baby latest in December latest while Funke, reported to be in her first trimester is expected to deliver mid-July 2013.

Enugu Governor, Chime abandons wife for 2 months’ vacation abroad!

Citizen reporter, Enugu

Sullivan Iheanacho Chime, the Governor of Enugu State has abandoned his wife, Clara Chime, for a two months’ vacation abroad. It is believed that Chime may be somewhere in the United States of America having fun with one of his numerous mistresses while Clara is at home roasting away.

Chime who was single when he became governor in 2007, having divorced his first wife, got married to Clara in September 2008.

About two weeks ago, the Governor handed over to his Deputy, Sunday Onyebuchi and left the country for the vacation without taking his wife along.

The development has set mouths wagging in the state, with members of the public wondering what would have made the Governor to embark on such a relaxation trip without taking his wife along.

“Why should a Governor embark on vacation overseas and leave his wife behind. It is either that all is not well in Enugu’s first family or that the governor wants an adventure with one of his numerous young under 18 mistresses” said a resident of the state.

While tongues are wagging, Clara was sighted looking so miserable, sad and dejected at the 40thbirthday of the Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Hon. Eugene Odo.

Meanwhile, the state has been thrown into panic by media reports that the governor’s absence may have to do with health challenges he has been facing.

However, the Enugu State government on Monday dismissed such media reports as cheap, mischievous and false, reaffirming that the Governor is “hale and hearty.”

Reacting to a report published in the Sunday Punch of 14th October, 2012, the State Commissioner for Information, Mr Chuks Ugwoke stated that the Governor was enjoying his vacation, the first he has taken since he was sworn into office five years ago.

He stressed that contrary to the reporter’s claim that the Governor’s last public appearance was on September 9, 2012, Chime had actually presided over the State Executive Council meeting on September 18, 2012 where he announced to all the members that he was proceeding on his annual leave and constitutionally handed over the reins of power to his deputy, Sunday Onyebuchi who is today the Acting Governor of the State.

The Commissioner further pointed out that Governor Chime also attended a meeting of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum in Abuja on Wednesday, September 19, 2012 and travelled out the next day on his vacation adding that “all these facts are verifiable”.

He stated that it was also very uncharitable for the same reporter to falsely claim that the Acting Governor was limited in the discharge of his responsibilities while also wondering why a journalist would deliberately go out of his way to publish outright falsehood about a person’s health status.

“Having said all these, we want to reaffirm that the Government of His Excellency Sullivan Iheanacho Chime will continue to promote freedom of expression while also maintaining its cherished reputation of civility and accommodation of all shades of opinion, including constructive criticisms from the media and other quarters,” the Commissioner added.

The Commissioner did not however give reasons why the governor did not take his wife along on the vacation.

Fear of kidnap grips Ebonyi Community over Aju festival

Premium Times

The Aju festival is celebrated annually in Okposi community.

Six days to the annual Aju Festival in Okposi Community, Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi, organisers say the fear of kidnapping is hampering the programme.

The Chairman of Okposi Development Union, Abuja chapter, Ihebunandu Onwukwe, said this in an interview on Thursday in Abuja.

Mr. Onwukwe recalled that a four-year-old girl, Faith Chukwuka, was allegedly kidnapped two weeks ago by gunmen at Okposi Village. He said security of lives and property was crucial to the success of the festival, saying “security will not be compromised’’.

He said that the development had brought activities preceding the festival to a low ebb.

“As it is, this year’s festival may not achieve its goals, as the (kidnap) incident had given a bad signal to the Aju Festival,” he said. “This year’s festival may not be interesting as usual.”

Mr. Onwukwe, however, stressed the need for Nigerians to continue to promote the country’s cultural heritage through successful festivals. He called on government and security agencies to ensure the security of people attending the Aju Festival.

The Aju Festival is normally witnessed by hundreds of indigenes of Aju and neighbouring communities who, as well as well wishers, who come over from different parts of the country.
