123  Forum / The Buzz Central / Statement From Music Video Director Sesan Regarding Skelewu Video on: 16-10-2013 04:22 PM

Here's the official statement from the music video director's team regarding the Skelewu video which was released yesterday shot by him. Davido tweeted yesterday that the video we all saw wasn't the official one and someone betrayed him by releasing it. He also said he's re-shooting the video with UK based music video director Moe Musa. Sesan has responded to all the hoopla. See his statement below:

My attention is drawn toward  the chaos surrounding the release of the Skelewu video .

Myself and my team shot the video for Davido in Nigeria and to the best of my knowledge my client and his team were very happy with the result, when they watched/ and approved the video. If he has since had a change of heart, that is ok. I am not in any way responsible for the release of the video. I believe Davido and myself did a very good job regarding the video production and as a professional of over 10 years. I find it very irresponsible and immature if my client and his management publicly put out false statements/comments, in an attempt to tarnish my name, credibility and reputation.

I remain dedicated, humble, focused and as hard working as ever. Thank you to all my fans and industry professionals - Stay blessed.

128  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / UCH Performs Nigeria's 1st Open Heart Surgery on: 15-10-2013 10:44 PM
The first open heart surgery in a teaching hospital in Nigeria has been successfully carried out at the University College Hospital, UCH, Ibadan, Oyo State.

The feat was carried out by surgeons at the UCH in conjunction with a team of surgeons from Tri-State Cardiovascular Delaware, United States of America,

A statement by the institution’s Head of Information Unit, Mr. Toye Akinrinola, disclosed that the four-hour surgery was to correct a leaking heart valve in a 19-year-old secondary school leaver.

An elated Chief Medical Director of the UCH, Professor Temitope Alonge, noted that the UCH was moved to embark on the exercise as a way of alleviating the hardship being experienced by Nigerians with heart-related challenges.

He stated that as the first teaching hospital in Nigeria, the UCH should take the lead in critical areas of medicine, propelling it into ensuring that complex surgeries (like open heart surgery) were carried out in the hospital.

“We are the pioneer teaching hospital in Nigeria, and we should be taking the lead. We are going to do this and we intend to make it a continuous exercise.
“In fact, within the next six months, we intend carrying out not less than 30 heart-related surgeries and at affordable cost to Nigerians.”
Alonge, who lamented that Nigerians pay exorbitantly to undergo such procedures outside the country, pointing out that the cheapest rate outside Nigeria was about N2.5 million.

“This is outside the airfare and hotel bills. It will run into millions. But with us here, it will be a lot cheaper and the access is there. The first surgery is heavily subsidised as a way of encouraging Nigerians to have confidence in our healthcare system.”
Alonge stated that the Federal Government had given the UCH a mandate to improve on the training of doctors as a way of enhancing more access to adequate healthcare in Nigeria.

Leader of the doctors from the USA, Dr. Kamar Adeleke noted that the patient would be back to his normal activities in less than two months.
“He does not have anything to fear about life expectancy. He will soon resume his normal activities, and do all the things he was used to before he took ill,” Dr. Adeleke said.

Adeleke gave assurance of his continued support to providing access to adequate healthcare as obtained in other developed countries.

After more than a decade of of inactivity, open heart surgery resumed in the country at the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, UNTH, Enugu, at an average cost of N500, 000.
129  Forum / The Buzz Central / Wizkid's 2-Year Old Boy Is All Grown! + Meet The Mother Of His Son on: 15-10-2013 10:25 PM

Wizkid has finally stepped up the maturity ladder and like any responsible man should, publicly accepting fatherhood.

The 23-year-old singer posted his first picture of himself and two year old son Boluwatife on social network Instagram, presumably as a sign to say ‘hey, the child’s mine guys, I’m done hiding him for you all‘.

In August 2011, it was reported that the StarBoy/EME Pop singer had impregnated an undergraduate named Oluwanishola Ogudugu. Wizkid denied the reports.

But in June 2013, Wizzy dropped a hint for us in his single ‘Talk‘, where he sang ‘I get Boluwatife, them go talk…‘. Months earlier, a young lady had been sending bloggers a photo of herself and a small boy claiming to be Wizkid’s baby mama. No one took her serious. Apparently, her story must have bee true as the boy in her photo is same as the one Wizkid shared on IG.

Just like Ice Prince who initially denied fathering a son but later accepted fatherhood, we’re glad Wizkid has turned a new leaf. Wizkid is however in a relationship with another woman Tania Omotayo. Sources close to the couple say their relationship is quite strong not minding public scrutiny.

Omotayo recently revealed on Twitter that she had known Wizkid before the singer fathered his first child. ‘We met five years ago at a friend’s house‘, Tania told a someone on Twitter this October.

Unlike Wizkid, his baby mama Oluwanishola Ogudugu (who is fondly called Sola by family and friends) has never been too shy to show off her bundle of joy. Sola regularly updates her Facebook account with her son looking pretty happy too. Sola however seems to have moved on romantically; her last photo update is a collage photo of herself and a young man.

136  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Hundreds Dead In Nigeria Detention, Amnesty Says on: 15-10-2013 07:30 AM

Hundreds of people have died in detention facilities in north-east Nigeria as the army tries to crush an Islamist militant rebellion there, according to Amnesty International.

The human rights group said some detainees died from suffocation in overcrowded cells, others from starvation and extra-judicial killings.

It is calling for an urgent investigation into the deaths.

There has not yet been an official response to the report.

But the Nigerian army has rejected all previous accusations of human rights abuses.

A senior Nigerian army officer told Amnesty that at least 950 people had died in military custody during the first half of this year.

Most had been accused of having links to the Islamist militant group Boko Haram, Amnesty said.

Boko Haram is fighting to overthrow Nigeria's government to create an Islamic state, and has launched a number of attacks on schools.

About 50 students were shot dead earlier this month in their hostel, in an attack blamed on Boko Haram.

A state of emergency was declared in three northern states in May - Yobe, Borno and Adamawa - in response to thousands of deaths in militant attacks.

But while most of the recent news from has been about these civilian killings, the BBC's Nigeria correspondent Will Ross says this latest Amnesty report shines a light on another grim side of life in northern Nigeria.

At times, the number of people killed in these detention centres was so high that there were regular mass burials, Amnesty said.

The BBC has seen photos of bodies reportedly dumped outside the mortuary in the city of Maiduguri by the military.

The bodies showed no obvious signs of having been killed in combat.

Amnesty has called for an urgent investigation, but those who follow events closely in Nigeria will know that such an investigation is highly unlikely to happen, our correspondent says.

138  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / My Father Wasn’t A Cultist – Ogunde’s Daughter on: 14-10-2013 09:22 PM

There have been widespread believe that Late Hubert Ogunde, a foremost and one of the pioneer Yoruba actors was a cultist during his lifetime, considering the nature of movies and play he staged in his days; but recent interview conducted by Punch Newspaper with one of his daughter, Dayo Ogunde, the duaghter debunked claims that his late father was a cultist.

Read her response below:

But people said he (Hubert Ogunde) belonged to some of the secret societies he portrayed in his movies?

Dayo’s Response:

He did not belong to any secret society. People erroneously believe he did. When he died, those who attended his funeral saw that his body was taken to church and that the church elders were the ones who buried him. If he belonged to any secret society, his body would have been taken away for burial by the members and we would not have been able to bury him the way we did.

After his burial, I returned to school. Some teachers told me that they wanted to come to the burial of my father but that they were afraid because they heard that about 11 people were to be buried along with him.

They said they feared being taken as part of the 11 persons. I was amused with such belief about my father. His lying-in-state at the National Theatre and his house in Alagomeji and hometown, Ososa, was witnessed by many people. No part of his body was cut off. Those dressed in traditional attire on the day of his burial were his children, grandchildren and members of the National Troupe. They dressed the way they did to honour my dad. There was nothing secretive about the life of my dad.
139  Forum / Sports / Street Named After Sir Alex Ferguson on: 14-10-2013 07:51 PM

Former Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson spoke of his pride after unveiling a street named in his honour near the English champions’ Old Trafford ground on Monday.
What was Waters Reach will now be known as Sir Alex Ferguson Way.

During the Scot’s 26 years in charge, United won 13 Premier League titles, including last season’s top-flight crown and two European Champions League trophies among a slew of silverware.

Ferguson, the most successful manager in British football history, retired at the end of last season.

Having revealed the new road sign, Ferguson said Monday: “It encapsulates probably the last 26 years – coming to the great club, the history of it.
“It’s been an incredible journey for me, ending today for me to unveil this road sign

“I’m really proud of that and I’m proud of everyone who has been associated with the club. I’d like to thank Manchester United for inviting me down here, 26 years ago. It was a fantastic elevation in my life and a challenge I accepted. And we are where we are now.

“It’s a great, great football club. You, the supporters, have enjoyed it. And I still think that a lot of our young fans don’t remember that there were bad days. Dealing with bad days is what we’re good at. This club will always go on.”

The 71-year-old added: “To have a part of Trafford carrying my name is truly humbling.”

Sir Alex Ferguson Way will be on the other side of the ground to another stadium approach road, Sir Matt Busby Way, named after Ferguson’s most illustrious predecessor as United manager and the man behind the club’s first European Cup triumph in 1968.
140  Forum / The Buzz Central / True Loyalty! Olamide Postpones Album Release Out Of Respect For Samklef on: 14-10-2013 07:46 PM

Rapper Olamide showed that his loyalty runs deep, when he announced he’s postponing the release of his album “Baddest Guy Ever Liveth” out of respect for producer & rapper Samklef, whose album drops today. Olamide’s album was also scheduled to drop today but he has insisted on pushing back the release because he didn’t want to drop his album on the same day as his mentor.

The two go way back & Olamide who astronomically blew up this year credits Samklef for contributing to his success. He revealed that when he couldn’t afford to buy clothes for his first video, Samklef stepped up & paid for his wardrobe.

That’s loyalty, some people become successful & forget those that helped them along the way. Not Olamide. I have new found respect for him.
