84  Forum / Politics / Chief Judge Of Abuja Withdraws Case Files Of Former Governors Undergoing Trial on: 21-10-2013 05:11 PM

The newly-appointed Chief Judge of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Justice Ibrahim Bukar, today in Abuja withdrew the case files of former Nigerian governors undergoing trial for corruption.

Justice Bukar requested all judges in the FCT to return the case files of several of the governors, some of whom are reportedly being considered for ministerial appointments by President Goodluck Jonathan.

A source at the FCT High Court said the new chief judge did not state why the case files were being withdrawn, but it is being suspected that he plans to do away with the cases.  Some of the cases were filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) since 2007.

Since coming to power in 2010, President Goodluck Jonathan has boosted and encouraged corruption in several ways, including through declaring he would not publicly declare his assets; refusing to push actively for action against corrupt officials, especially within his government; and pardoning a corrupt former governor, DSP Alaimeiyeseigha.

Several officials at the EFCC have also confided in SaharaReporters that Mr. Jonathan has directly interfered in their work and stopped several high profile investigations on corruption by asking the EFCC chairman to not investigate some of the most corrupt public officials in his administration.

A source at the EFCC noted that the case of former Governor Jolly Nyame had reached an advanced stage, with nine witnesses already called, lamenting that the case file is among those withdrawn today.

In recent months, President Jonathan has repeatedly declared corruption in Nigeria to be “exaggerated.”

Only last week, it emerged that his Minister of Aviation, Stella Oduah, compelled a struggling agency in the Ministry to purchase two overpriced luxury motor vehicles for her use at an incredible cost of N225million.  The public uproar that has followed the story has been ignored by Mr. Jonathan.

Mr Michael Derus, the German Consul-General in Lagos, on Monday, pledged his government’s willingness to make more Nigerians benefit from its global scholarships.

Derus told News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that “the essence” was to strengthen both countries educational cooperation, as well as make education affordable to “many more young Nigerians”.

The envoy said that the German government, through its academic exchange service, was ready to support Nigerians in their undergraduate and post-graduate education.

“Nigeria no doubt is our very good partner in educational cooperation.

“And we also know the great importance Nigerian parents attaches to the education of their children.

“This is one reason we will definitely sustain our award of scholarships to Nigerians in the years ahead.

“The German’s funds for supporting other countries still exist. We have more scholarships for Nigerians willing to study in Germany.’’

Derus said that the country’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Mrs Dorothee Janetzke-Wenzel, was particularly interested promoting education of young Nigerians.

He said that education cooperation was one of the four areas of his government’s present partnership with the Nigerian government.
“Even in the global level, Nigeria is a good partner for educational cooperation.
“We, therefore, need to support and promote the educational development of young Nigerians.’’

92  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Gombe Pilgrims Flaunt Governor Dankwambo’s 2015 Election Posters In Saudi Arabia on: 21-10-2013 09:37 AM
A cold war is brewing in Gombe State as pilgrims from the state have been seen in Saudi Arabia during the Hajj campaigning for the re-election of Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo in 2015.

A source said the pilgrims displayed the governor’s posters in their areas of residence in Makka and other parts of the Arabian country, thereby angering many other Nigerian pilgrims especially from Northern Nigeria.

SaharaReporters could not get the Executive Secretary of the Gombe State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, Usman Gurama, on the phone from our New York’s office. B ut he was said not to have questioned the rationale behind the action.

A Gombe indigene, Mohammed Garba, confirmed to SaharaReporters that Gurama’s position was aired on BBC Hausa this morning from Makka.

Garba said, “We heard Gurama justifying it and not coming out to make a categorical statement against such nonsense. How can our pilgrims behave in such disgraceful manner?  Why other states didn’t do so. But I am not surprised; they did not go on pilgrimage but on Dankwambo’s pleasure trip.  Most of them were sponsored by the governor.”

Garba added, “One Abdulkadir Abdullahi from Gombe whom we know as the governor’s puppet even argued that there is nothing wrong, and that if he has posters he will also display and post it during Hajj.”

It would be recalled that, an Islamic cleric in the state, Sheik Isa Pantami recently warned the governor against being fooled by political sycophants.

According to Pantami, “Gombe State lawmakers, most of your commissioners and other political appointees are making gigantic evil-effort to mislead you by their utterances as well as their blind loyalty not to your humble self as IBRAHIM, but to the office you occupy and the State's resources you control as the executive governor of the state.  Be aware of sycophants. To them might is always right. And they are always in support of any government in power. Their principles, loyalty, commitment and integrity are "money and power.

"HE Dankwambo! I have been disturbed with the recent sycophancy of people around you, including our lawmakers in this month of June, who blindly, arrogantly, sentimentally and greedily endorsed your re-election in 2015 on behalf of almost 2million people of our dear Gombe State. Their action is nothing but an anathema not only to them, but to the entire people of the State, Dankwabo inclusive. I had been waiting for your response on that, but you remain silent, meaning you have accepted their endorsement. Subhanallah! In addition to that, their action is Un-Islamic, undemocratic and uncivilized. Be aware of sycophants please. If your tenure ends, they will dump you in the waste bin of history and surround your successor.”

Former Flying Eagles midfielder Rabiu Ibrahim collapsed on the field and had to be rushed to the hospital.

KickOff reports that the Kilmarnock FC midfielder collapsed after a collision with Ross County’s Ivan Sproule in the 35th minute, and was subsequently stretchered off the pitch and rushed to a nearby hospital.

Kilmarnock went on to record their first win of the season as Scottish international striker Kris Boyd and Jackson Irvine scored in either half to seal the win for the hosts.

After enduring torrid spells at Sporting Lisbon, PSV Eindhoven and Celtic, Ibrahim’s career has taken an upward trajectory since joining the modest club, as has featured in all the clubs ten League games played so far this season.

Kilmarnock are placed second from bottom in the 12-team Scottish Premiership.
