One day a lion wanted a nice relaxing nap in the shade and found a tree to climb. However, the scaredy cat climbed a little too high and needed the assistance of his older brother to get down.

The two pictured lions, named Echo and Etosha, are the residents of Zimbabwe's Antelope Park. According to a photo agency which provided the photos, this one was not a stereotypical lion fight, it is actually a more extreme example of a cat getting stuck in a tree...

47  Forum / The Buzz Central / El-Rufai Versus Pastor Oritsejafor: The Private Jet Mess on: 17-09-2013 07:54 AM

Former Minister of FCT and Deputy National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Nasir el-Rufai, says he is not perturbed by the seven-day ultimatum given to him by the leadership of CAN.

El-Rufai had, in a recent interview, described CAN President, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, as the “propaganda chief” of the ruling PDP; adding that he “knows who gave him (Oritsejafor) his private jet.”

But the CAN leadership on Sunday asked el-Rufai to, within seven days, mention the name of the person who bought a private jet for Oritsejafor, threatening that failure to do so will force the association to “open up” on the former minister’s “dirty life.”

Some of el-Rufai’s Twitter followers have tweeted at him, saying they were worried about the ultimatum.

One of his followers with the name Demola, who tweeted at el-Rufai on Monday asked, “CAN gives @elrufai seven days or what will happen?” . Responding to this, el-Rufai tweeted, “Nothing. And I am waiting for the days to pass. Hehehe.”

Meanwhile, el-Rufai’s statement has pitched some of his social media fans against him. The former minister had posted the full text of the interview on his Facebook page.

Some of his followers on the social network described his diatribe against Oritsejafor as rude and uncalled for. According to many of them, insulting the CAN President, who is also the head of the Christian community in Nigeria, amounts to taking a swipe at the generality of Christians in the country. To this end, some of them dropped angry comments on his Facebook page.

“Look Nasir, withdraw those statements you are making against a man of God! But, if you still insist, then, the anointing upon his life will respond to you drastically. Remember that a man who makes trouble for others is also making trouble for himself. Thank you,” Okechukwu Chukwuemeka wrote.

Osita Ndidi-Opurum described el-Rufai’s allegations as “rubbish” and one that is capable of causing disaffection between the faithful of the two main religions.

“All this lengthy speech amounts to talking rubbish and insulting Christians and their leader in Nigeria. When can you (el-Rufai) ever be a man? You don’t even have respect for those in authority. I wonder where and how you will feel in 2015 if your preferred presidential candidate does not win the election. May be you will run out of Nigeria.”

Meanwhile, some Nigerians have slammed the CAN leadership and asked it to leave its battle for God to fight. Emmanuel Chidiogo in a Twitter post asked, “Is CAN trying to fight for God? All the rain of abuses on elrufai is uncalled for and immature.”

Some Nigerians, while reacting to the ultimatum on various social networking sites, said the ultimatum appeared more like blackmailing el-Rufai. Those who belong to this group wondered why CAN waited for a time when “unguarded statements” were made against its president before threatening to expose the “dirty life” of el-Rufai.

“So, CAN is using it now as blackmail when they should have, indeed, exposed him as genuine Christians without giving him conditions? It shows how biased all of them are,” Auchman stated.
As if that was not enough, some Nigerians said Oritsejafor made himself susceptible to such attack due to the alleged ostentatious life he lives.

50  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Prostitute In kastina Kills Her 4-Day-Old Baby With Rat Poison on: 16-09-2013 10:04 AM

A 4-day-old baby boy has been gruesomely murdered by his own mother who fed him with a N40 rat poison. Binta Shuaibu, 20, conspired with her friend, Hindatu Umar, 27, to commit the dastardly act in Katsina State. Read the story below and what she said led her in committing the crime.

What could make a mother willfully kill her own baby? The suspect, Binta tells her story to Sunday Sun: “I was born in Layin-Ruwa, Kafur Local Government Area of Katsina State. I got married 11years ago and my husband, Inusa later forced me to divorce him. I have only one son, Aminu for him.

“After the divorce, I decided to go into prostitution. The money I got from prostitution is what I use to feed my father in the village. My father had divorced my mother because my mother begged him to allow me to return to my former husband, but my father rejected the advice. My father divorced my mother because of that.

“While engaged in prostitution, I suddenly had an unwanted pregnancy, which I did not terminate. I was able to conceal the pregnancy and successfully had the baby boy delivered in my room.
“The ward head, Maiunguwa in the village where I was doing prostitution had warned all prostitutes not to have unwanted pregnancy, and that anyone who got pregnant must relocate to any nearby village to deliver and care for the baby there.

“But because of the warning by village head, I was at a loss to what to do with the baby and my calling as a prostitute.
“My good friend, Hindatu Umar suggested that since we do not want to stop prostitution, we should kill the baby. We both went into the street and bought rat poison for N40 and used it to kill the baby.”

Asked how the baby was actually killed, Binta said, “It was about midnight that the act was carried out. I told my friend, Hindatu that I would not want to witness the killing of my own child.

“Hindatu was the one who fed my baby with the poison. She forced him to drink the poison. When she wanted to do it, I went into the other room and took a drug, Valium 5 and slept off. I woke up to see that my baby was dead. We wrapped the dead body with clothes.”

News of the heinous crime soon filtered out and the partners in crime were apprehended.
Binta spoke further, “Unknown to us, the ward head had heard about the news that my baby was killed. He quickly went to Danja Police Station, reported the incident and we were arrested by the police.” In her own confession, Hindatu Umar said, “I am a prostitute. My friend, Binta delivered a baby boy and we have a law by the ward head in the village of Danja that he doesn’t want any unwanted pregnancy and that any of us prostitutes who gets pregnant should leave the village and deliver the baby in the next village.

“We still enjoy our job as prostitutes and so, we both decided to kill the baby. I suggested to her to kill the baby. We went into the street and bought local rat killer and by midnight I gave the baby the poison and he drank the poison and died instantly. I took the container and dropped it in the toilet. Later the news spread and policemen from Danja Police Station arrested us.”

51  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Woman Delivers Baby On Board Arik Flight To London As Plane Makes Emergency Land on: 16-09-2013 09:57 AM

Yes, Arik Airline again. This time not another stowaway dude trying to escape Naija territory but what I could call another attempted strategy to earn foreign citizenship. You could see some parallel in these situations-- both desired oversees domicile and were, sorry to say, **BUSTED**. Continue reading to unveil the full story.

An Arik Air flight with over 100 passengers en route to London Sunday was forced to make an emergency landing in Palmas, Spain, as a woman went into labour and gave birth while the aircraft was airborne.

The pilot was said to have requested the emergency landing on the advice of two doctors who were on board the aircraft and had helped the mother deliver the baby.

When the passenger went into labour, the cabin crew asked that doctors on board the flight to identify themselves. Following the announcement, two of the passengers came forward, saying they were doctors and assisted in the delivery of the baby.

Normally, a source disclosed that in the few instances where women have given birth on board, the aircraft would continue its flight to its final destination. However, the Arik flight was forced to make an emergency landing following the advice of the doctors that the woman was bleeding excessively - she was said to have experienced excessive hemorrhaging, necessitating the emergency landing.

At the time of this report, both mother and child were said to have been stable but were left behind in Palmas for monitoring by medical personnel, while the flight continued on its journey to London.

The airline was trying to ascertain if the woman had presented a false medical report from her doctor on the true duration of her pregnancy or she had gone into premature labour while on board the flight.

Women with full term pregnancies are not allowed to travel by air, according to International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) regulations. As such, intending pregnant passengers are required to present medical reports certifying that they are less than 32 weeks pregnant before they are allowed to fly.

A source said the airline was carrying out a full-scale investigation to ascertain the genuineness of the medical report presented by the woman. Arik Air’s management said yesterday that if it is discovered that the woman was given a false report to enable her fly, it would file a special complaint against the doctor who had issued the medical report to the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) for endangering her life and that of the baby, as well that of other passengers on board the flight.

52  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Sorry Nigerians. No More USA Visa Lottery For You on: 16-09-2013 08:01 AM

The US Visa Lottery scheme that has seen tens of thousands of Nigerians emigrate to the United States will no longer be available to Nigerians.

Yesterday the United States Department of State sighted that Nigerian and and a few other countries will not be eligible for the DV-2015 program. Damn! Some peoples hopes of moving to God’s own country just got squashed!

The reason behind the exclusion being; over 50,000 Nigerians have migrated to the United States in the last five years.

Other countries not eligible as Bangladesh, Brazil, Canada, China (mainland-born), Colombia, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Haiti, India, Jamaica, Mexico, Pakistan, Peru, Philippines, South Korea, United Kingdom (except Northern Ireland) and its dependent territories, and Vietnam.

I’m still in shock that over 50k Nigerians have migrated to the USA legally in he last 5 years!

53  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / "Obasanjo, Atiku Are Finished"-- Founding Father, Prof Jubril Aminu on: 16-09-2013 07:49 AM

Prof. Jubril Aminu is a founding member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). He was also at different times the Minister of Education and Petroleum Resources.

He was equally a senator. In this interview, he speaks on the PDP crisis, saying the attempt by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and some governors to break away from the mainstream PDP is borne out of the
need to remain politically relevant.

Excerpts:

How do you see the breakaway moves of some PDP members led by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, some governors and former national officers of the party?
What they did is nothing to worry about. Democracy is partly about the expression of personal opinions. There is nothing in jumping ship by any party member under democracy. As an original founding member of the PDP, I have been around all the time and I can be described as a major stakeholder in Nigeria and my state of Adamawa.

I don’t support what they did and I also presume that what they did was not motivated by their love for the country but by personal ego and a way to salvage themselves from the situation in which they have found themselves. I suspect that when we get to know the extent of the forces behind the move, one would be surprised to see powerful people inside and outside the PDP, not necessarily governors, who are trying to settle scores or re-direct the party in some ways or just playing mischief.

I don’t get jittery when this type of thing happens. Nigeria moved from the worst moment to the present without collapsing. That will not happen since we survived the June 12 crisis that led to the sacking of Interim Head of State, Chief Ernest Shonekan, from office. What is happening now does not worry me. Until about a few months ago, there were only two parties but now we have new ones, which have no real ideology. To that extent, nobody should get jittery because these groups are driven by ego and their games don’t add up. I suspect that they need some tricks in order to survive. So, nobody should be worried about the antics adopted by the people causing trouble for the party.

In other words, they are frustrated people?
They are losers and they are looking for new avenues to win the game. Let me give you an example: Atiku does not stand any chance in 2015 because Jonathan is already in the game for re-election and he (Atiku) needs a new game in order to be relevant politically. Obasanjo, for example, is finished, but he has decided not to be seen as finished. So, all these people need a new game in order to be politically relevant. They have decided they are not finished politically. These are some of the things you should look at and not to be scared by what is happening. It is nothing new.

But when you put together all that is happening now, do you see the PDP resolving its crisis in order to win the next election?
The crisis will be resolved, but I don’t know who will be the scapegoat at the end. I don’t know who they will use to resolve it. This entire thing is being done to retain power by those who are there and those outside also want to wrest power from those wielding it. So, what is happening is a normal political game that goes on in any democracy and it will not break the party and the country as some persons have predicted.

Some people insist that the National Chairman, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, be removed as a condition for peace to reign in the PDP. Are they justified?
Those are very mean people, particularly the Adamawa State governor, who never liked Tukur. He does not want Tukur at any point and has always gone for his jugular. That is unfair and unhealthy for the party and the country.

But do you think that Tukur has led the PDP well?
What power do you think Tukur really has? What power did Audu Ogbeh wield when Obasanjo was in power? Obasanjo is the one who changed party supremacy for something else. He sent people to the Ministry of Power in South Africa to study how power was being managed and they said, ‘no, go to the African National Congress, ANC, and see what the party has on power’. I don’t see that happening in Nigeria because our people are pre-occupied with personal control of everything. They are concerned with using power. So, you cannot really accuse Tukur of using power.

He has shown strong commitment as a Fulani man to move the party forward. It is not easy for anybody with a modicum of self-pride to continue to hold on. What does he really want if not trying to work for the nation and its people? He has tried and people should leave him alone to move the party forward.

54  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Anglican Archbishop Ignatius Kattey Released By Kidnappers After Paying Ransom on: 15-09-2013 05:15 PM

Reporters has learnt that Anglican bishop Ignatius Kattey, who was kidnapped nine days ago by an armed gang in Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State, has been released by his abductors.

Kattey is the second highest-ranking Anglican prelate in Nigeria.

The report also revealed that Archbishop Kattey’s daughter, Margaret, confirmed her father’s release. She disclosed that the bishop returned home last night around 8:00 p.m. He was “hale and hearty,” according to his daughter.

Another family source declined to say if any ransom was paid to secure the bishop’s release. However, a police source in Rivers State revealed that several millions of naira was shelled out to the kidnappers from contributions made by several state governments as well as the office of the Nigerian president.

No way they [kidnappers] would have released him if not for the money,” the police officer said.

59  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / FG denies ordering customized gold iPhones; issues statement on: 13-09-2013 02:22 AM

The Federal Government has reacted to the news that they ordered 53 gold-plated iPhone 5S for N682million. The report went viral after the CEO of Gold and Co., UK, Amjad Ali, told UK newspaper, The Independent, that our government ordered these phones from his firm as part of the memorabilia for the nation’s 53rd Independence anniversary on October 1, 2013. Jonathan's government has denied this and issued a statement. Find it below...

Quote
We consider the reports in a section of the media claiming that the Nigerian government had ordered customized gold iPhones from a Dubai-based company to mark the country’s 53rd independence anniversary in October not only false and misleading, but utterly mischievous.
It is instructive that despite the refutation of the story by the company, which ought to have laid the mischief to rest, a number of politically-minded news media continue to insist on promoting the blatant falsehood. We deplore their antics as yet another attempt to use any trick or means possible to discredit President Jonathan’s well-meaning, hardworking and focused administration.

The company, Gold and Co., has since explained that what was written on Independent was different from what the CEO actually said. They explained that the phones were not ordered by the government but by a Nigerian who asked them to put the crest of the Nigerian govt on the back. He continue..

Quote
It is certainly a matter of public record and knowledge that since his assumption of office, President Jonathan has ensured that October 1 independence-day anniversaries are low-key, without any pomp or pageantry. Ironically, even this prudence generated criticisms from a cynical and opportunistic segment of the public which alleged, in 2011, and again in 2012, that the President was either too scared to celebrate or that the government was broke.
This administration has no intention to depart from its established habit of prudent management of resources and modest celebration of the country’s independence anniversary. This year, the public should be assured that the October 1 anniversary will also be low-keyed. Neither the Federal Government nor its agencies has ordered any gold iPhones to mark the anniversary.
We do not see any justification for such extravagance either now or at any other time. The Jonathan administration’s gold standard is to continue to provide responsible, committed, and result-oriented leadership, not to engage in the purchase and distribution of party gifts.
We urge the Dubai-based company, which has since said that the order for the said 53 gold i-phones was placed by a private individual and not the Nigerian Government, to go ahead and disclose the identity of that individual. We appeal to the public to beware of the increasing desperation of those with politically vested interests, seeking to pull down this administration. Their moral bankruptcy is condemnable.
The Jonathan administration will remain focused as it continues to serve the Nigerian people diligently.

Reuben Abati
Special Adviser to the President
