Information reaching 247ureports.com from sources on ground in Anambra State indicate that over 30 persons died in the early morning hours of today [November 2, 2013] at a campaign event of the All Progressive Grand Alliance [APGA] at a prayer house in Uke in Idenmili – Anambra central senatorial district. Governor Peter Obi and his candidate, Willie Obiano had arrived to the prayer house [Adoration Ministry] at the early morning hours of about 12:15am to address the audience that had come for night vigil. The arrival caught the audience unaware and surprised. And as Peter Obi mounted the stage to address the audience – the audience broke out in a quiet murmur – unsure of what to make of it, the Governor continued to deliver his campaign speech with Willie Obiano standing beside him. Governor Peter Obi promised to make available N5million to the prayer house to help tackle a gully erosion site near the Adoration grounds.

And in reaction to the chants of Onwa, Willie Obiano/Peter Obi’s men including security operatives began rushing towards the area where the chants of Onwa was coming from. In a last ditch effort to resolve the ASUU strike, President Goodluck Jonathan will on Monday, November 4, meet with the leadership of ASUU at the Presidential Villa. This was part of the resolutions of the meeting between the ASUU leadership, Vice President Namadi Sambo and the Supervising Minister of Education on Tuesday as was first reported by this medium. An official of the Vice President's office who pleaded anonymity said that all hands are now on deck to ensure that the universities resume next week. The official stated that the Vice President and the Supervising Minister of Education have made head-way in resolving the strike, but the final involvement of the President is to show ASUU that there is the commitment of the Federal Government at the highest level. It was learnt that the President has been fully briefed on steps taken by Vice President Namadi Sambo and the Supervising Minister of Education to get to this point and he will at next Monday's meeting present to the ASUU leadership the administration's last concession for them to call off the prolonged strike. A source at the Presidential Villa noted that if ASUU fails to call off, the Federal Government will then resort to plan B, which will be to compulsorily open the universities, using the instrumentality of the governing councils and the school managements. Already, most of the governing councils of the universities have started meeting to work out modalities for the compulsory re-opening of the universities should ASUU fail to honour the personal request of President Jonathan. According to report, the Supervising Minister of Education, Barr. Nyesom Wike and the Vice Chancellors of Public Universities also discussed the re-opening of the schools last Monday. Most of the Vice Chancellors suggested the compulsory re-opening of the schools, should the last ditch efforts fail. It was gathered that security report available to the Presidency may have necessitated this line of action to salvage the universities system from the direction it is facing at present.

The unnamed boy was 10 when he shot his father, Jeff Hall, dead. The 32-year-old was shot at point-blank range as he snoozed on a sofa at home on 1 May 2011. During his trial, lawyers argued he had killed his father to stop him separating from the boy's stepmother. Defence lawyers for the boy say he grew up in an abusive environment, and had emotional and learning disabilities. He will be eligible for parole when he is 20. Jeff Hall was the regional director for a neo-Nazi group called the National Socialist Movement. He had led Nazi-style rallies in his hometown of Riverside, according to the Press-Enterprise newspaper.

Three days after some youths staged protest at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu in solidarity with the embattled minister of aviation, Stella Oduah, fresh indications have emerged that the protest was allegedly sponsored by the ministry.
Contrary to the claims that the protesters were Igbo Youths, a source told DailyPost that they were students of the Institute of Management and Technology, IMT, Enugu.
According to the source, trouble started when the organizers refused to pay the students the agreed amount.
One of the protesters who spoke under anonymity told our correspondent that they were initially promised N10, 000 each, adding that “after the protest, they took us to the Enugu Press Centre, where we were given only N4,000.
“This was quite against the earlier agreement we reached. They shortchanged us so much and we are not happy about that”.
Further investigations by DailyPost showed that a particular non-governmental organization based in Enugu was earlier allegedly approached by one of the minister’s aide to organize the protest with the sum of N1.5 million but the director declined.
It was gathered that a prominent media worker based in the South-East later accepted to organize the “fake protest.
“He went to the IMT, got some students and had a deal with them. The students didn’t even know why they were at the airport, neither could their supposed leader say the platform under which they were protesting.

According to Associated Press, Francis was speaking in St. Peter’s Square about the important role grandparents play when a little boy walked up behind him and confidently climbed up and sat down on the pontiff’s white chair.
The Vatican says Francis was surrounded by elderly faithful and their grandchildren Saturday night at a rally to encourage family life when the boy came up, wearing a striped shirt, jeans and sneakers.

A terrible accident happened at the Nigerian Navy Secondary School, Onikoko, Adigbe area of Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital in the early hours of October 30, 2013, Wednesday, when six naval rating officers pounced on one of the civilian teachers in the school and beat him to stupor over a minor argument between them. The victim, Rasheed Ibrahim (pictured), could have been killed by the naval officers without the quick intervention of the Commandant. Ibrahim, a Senior Food and Nutrition teacher in the school since 1998, was ordered rushed by the Commandant first to the School sickbay for first aid treatment from where he was transferred to the FMC, Abeokuta. According to P.M. News, the trouble started following an argument between the victim and one of the rating officers identified as Aliyu. This later snowballed into some commotion in the school premises. “I saw them arguing, the argument dragged for a short time, I felt that it was a minor argument, so I did not intervene,” an eyewitness told the reporters. “It happened around 7.15 a.m. At that time I saw Aliyu trying to drag Mr. Ibrahim out of his car and he succeeded. Another officer, Oyerinde, later instructed Aliyu to beat him up. That was how the whole issue started. In the process, another Senior Officer, Shodiya, came out from his vehicle and joined them, while other rating officers pounced on him to the extent that they used their thick belts on him until it got tore into pieces. All my attempts and that of others to pacify them were rebuffed. “This was not the first time it will happen, this is the sixth time in two years that civilians working in the School here have been brutalised and nothing has been done”, the eyewitness explained. When P.M. News tried to contact the Commandant of the School, Commodore M A Olatunji, on the phone to comment on the incident, he neither confirmed nor denied it, but declined to give further comments, saying he need to get clearance from the authority before he could make a statement.
