|  OGUN STATE, October 25, Friday -- A woman was today apprehended by the police for reportedly abandoning her newborn infant at a dumpsite at Ikugbonmilere, Mowe, Ogun state. The alleged mother declared she have birth to a tortoise instead of a human being. Meanwhile, eyewitnesses say some people saw traces of blood in the woman's house when they went in to investigate. The policemen, who were about 15 in number, were said to have banged on the gate several times, a development that frightened those inside the premises. According to sources, the policemen were acting on the orders of the Rivers State Police Commissioner, Mr. Mbu Joseph Mbu. The policemen on guard were to have taken different positions when they heard the deafening bang on the gate, thinking that some unknown persons were trying to force their way in to cause havoc. It was gathered that though nobody was harmed, the two policemen that were officially posted to Okocha’s residence later left the compound and reported to the State Police Command. A Government House top official told The PUNCH that they (occupants of the residence) saw the written signal that instructed the group of policemen to withdraw two of their colleagues from the premises. The same operation was said to have been carried out by another set of security operatives at the official residence of the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Feyii George. Press Secretary to the SSG, Mr. Chidi Adiele, told our correspondent in a telephone interview that he got information about the withdrawal of policemen posted to his principal’s house. “Now, the SSG is left with only an orderly,” Adiele added. Though no reason was given for the invasion of Okocha’s official residence, the latest development may not be unconnected to the lingering crisis in the state. When contacted to speak on the invasion of the Chief of Staff residence by a group of policemen on the order of the CP, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ahmad Mohamad told The PUNCH that nothing like that happened. Mohammad described the claim as false baseless, saying, “It is not true. I am the spokesman of the command. Such a thing did not happen. It (claim) is false and baseless. |  Abuja -- A mother-of five who delivered quadruplets half a year ago has pleaded with the authorities and well-meaning Nigerians for help. Mrs. Alice Akor gave birth to the four babies on April 23, 2013 at the National Hospital in Abuja, and her family has been struggling to make the ends meet ever since. Mrs. Akor, a National Diploma (ND) holder, says she owes around N700,000 in hospital bills. Before giving birth to the quadruplets, she was earning money from selling clothes, but had to stop due to the financial burden and physical demands of raising her children. She says she thought she was pregnant with only one baby. As the couple are already parents to a boy, they prayed for one more. Their wish was to have two children, the woman adds. Mrs. Akor says her husband had to borrow money to pay for the medical bills before she and the newborns could be discharged from the hospital. Now, she begs Nigerians and the Government to assist her family. She now fears about her children's future, as she would like them to attend higher educational institutions in the future. The time has come to start building a capital for that, she says. Feeding the children with milk formula costs no less than N15,000 every week, her husband doen not have any job at the moment, and she currently is unable to work, too. The mother of a large family says the quadruplets were a divine gift, so they could not query God or reject the children. She says they accept things as they are, and will seek for a way to bring the children up. But in this, the woman says, they will need the help of the Government and other Nigerians. |  Most of you must have read this story. Brymo is no more with Choc City. He just released a new album and he has no right, just like no one else does to sell the album, except it's been sold by Choc City because he has an agreement with them which won't end until 2016. He can't perform anywhere, he can't get any brand endorsement deal, he can't release new singles, except it's all under Choc City because they already have a court injunction restricting him from doing all of that. Well Annie Idibia's manager thinks it's unfair on Brymo to wait for two years doing nothing except he gets back with Choc City. She took to twitter where she expressed her disappointment. |  Former President of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN), Mustapha Amego, has died after a long battle with colon cancer. The musician and former TV personality, who relocated to the US many years ago, died yesterday October 23rd in Baltimore, Maryland, US. For those who don’t remember him, he was one of the host of popular 90′s weekly music-dance show, Sunday Rendezvous. Mustapha was also PMAN president from 1993 to 1996. After his tenure, he relocated to the US where he worked with the Discovery Channel as a content producer and editor. |  A notorious gang ‘general’ who poses a ‘serious threat to the public’ could be back on Britain’s streets within months because ministers have failed to have him deported. Joland Giwa, whose street name is Dexter, led a campaign of terror on the streets of Croydon, South London, and is ready ‘at any time to use knives and weapons’, police say. He was thought to be from Nigeria or Sierra Leone, but both countries refuse to accept he is one of theirs and linguists have now said he has a strong London accent, despite finding that he used English spoken in Nigeria. In a gangster-style YouTube video, he is seen boasting about having stabbed a man ‘in the f****** head’ and threatening to attack other gangs who intrude on his territory. He has been held since 2009 when he finished a jail sentence, but immigration officials have failed to secure him a passport because of the two African countries' refusal. Yesterday a judge ruled that immigration officials had three months to get him travel documents and if they failed Giwa should be released. Giwa, 24, is the self-proclaimed ‘general’ in charge of the Don’t Say Nothing gang – known as DSN – with a string of convictions for theft and robbery. In 2007, the DSN gang was behind a surge in violence on the streets of Croydon which saw stabbings, shootings and murder, police say. Officers linked Giwa to at least 99 incidents of criminal or anti-social behaviour. Giwa landed at Heathrow aged 10 on a flight from Nigeria with his twin brother but no parent or guardian, in 1999. He had no identity documents and claimed asylum on the spot, telling officials he was from Sierra Leone and his parents were killed in the civil war in that country. He claimed a stranger had rescued him and his brother and put them on a plane. His asylum claim was refused but he was given permission to stay for four years, before permanent leave was granted in 2005. By then he already had a conviction for handling stolen goods, and over the next four years he committed a string of robberies and thefts which resulted in a 27-month jail term in February 2009. Time served meant he was due for release later that year. At the time, he posted a picture on Facebook of himself in his cell, taken on a smuggled mobile phone. An internet post said he would be ‘touching road real soon’. But instead he was held in an immigration centre as officials tried to kick him out of the UK. In March 2011 he was transferred to high security Belmarsh prison after intelligence suggested he was involved in smuggling drugs into the detention centre. His brother Make was jailed for trying to smuggle heroin and sim cards in to Belmarsh last year. Meanwhile, both Nigeria and Sierra Leone have refused to recognise him as a national of their country or to give him a passport. After interviewing him in 2010 the Sierra Leone High Commission said the ‘tribe he mentioned is not a Sierra Leone tribe’ – and claimed he was Nigerian. |  A medical personnel believed to be a doctor reportedly molested a female patient who was on admission in a hospital where he practices. According to report, the female patient was brought to the clinic for emergency medical attention and after been placed on drip, recovered partially. The medical personnel took advantage of the fact that she was semi-conscious and forcefully had sex with her. The alleged rapist who is a medical practitioner with Tersoo Clinic in Naka town, Gwer West local government area of Benue state has been arrested by the men of the Benue State police command. It was also gathered that the medical personnel reportedly tested positive to HIV/AIDs and was receiving Anti-Retroviral (ARV) treatment at the General Hospital Naka, before the incident. |  A 13-year-old girl, identified as Miss Ifeoma Nwofe, reportedly lost her life on Tuesday, following a kerosene explosion at her parent’s Azuiyiokwu, Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, residence. The girl who suffered severe burns all over her body, could not be saved as she could not receive treatment at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki, where she was rushed to because of the ongoing doctors’ strike. She later died at a private hospital due to lack of prompt medical attention. The other siblings of the deceased, Linda, 8 and Chiemerie, 10 who were also victims of the explosion are said to be in critical condition. According to report, the explosion occurred as Ifeoma was trying to light the family’s lantern after power supply was cut. This development has raised suspicion that the kerosene might have been adulterated. Father of the victims, Mr. Simeon Nwofe, said that the deceased had just returned home to observe her school’s midterm break. “After hugging her younger ones, she decided to put on the lantern in the house and then the incident occurred,” he said. Her remains have been taken to their hometown for burial. The Special Adviser to Ebonyi State Governor on Petroleum Products, Pricing and Distribution, Mr. Chief Ejem, promised to get to the root of the matter.
