It was a terrible sight on Sunday evening as a middle aged woman, identified as Kemi, bit off the manhood of her neighbour around the Inalende area of Ibadan, Oyo State. Kemi was said to have resorted to biting, according to an eyewitness, after she was thoroughly beating by the man, identified simply as Rasheed.

Speaking on what made her cut off a man's manhood with her teeth, Kemi said: “He reported me and my friend to my friend’s mother in-law after she arrived at our house and thereafter started to beat me and when nobody rescued me from him, I bit him but I do not know it was his pénis.”

It was gathered that issues on how to settle a misunderstanding between Rasheed’s wife and another woman degenerated into a violent fight. It was during the process of partisan interference that Kemi angrily tore the man's dress, held his manhood and bit it off Mr Rasheed's manhood live.

Aside from the manhood which was bitten off, she also inflicted a big sore on the man’s abdomen. Rasheed was later rescued and rushed to a nearby hospital in the area for medical attention while Kemi was handed over to men of the Nigeria Police Force in the nearby police station.

Kemi, a mother of two, further said they had not been on speaking terms since she relocated to the area in June and Rasheed’s wife had not been greeting her and her friend. “My friend, Adijat, has not been greeting and talking with Rasheed’s wife, I know that was why he decided to engage me in a fight,” she added.

Unfortunately, Kemi is going to prison as the police is already in the process of arraigning her in court.

The Sokoto State Government said on Sunday that it would give out in a mass wedding, 250 widows and widowers across the state to give them a new lease of life.

Alhaji Zubairu Goronyo, the state Commissioner for Social Development, who announced this at the screening of the beneficiaries in Sokoto, said that the venture would gulp N30 million.

According to him, a date will soon be fixed for the exercise.

A correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, who witnessed the screening that was done to establish the health status of the beneficiaries, reported that it was handled by various committees.

Alhaji Zubairu said that beds, mattresses, sets of chairs, curtains and two sets of female wrappers would be given to each of the 125 brides.

He said that similarly, the grooms would be given two sets of guinea brocade, N20,000 each as dowry to formalise the marriage agreement, and another N20,000 each to boost their businesses.

The commissioner said that the state governor, Alhaji Aliyu Wamakko, and the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, would serve as guardians to the brides and grooms at the ceremony.

Police in southern Italy have arrested an 18-year-old Nigerian boy on suspicion of murdering a 60-year-old Catherine Susca outside the coastal city of Bari.
Catherine was found semi-Unclad with a plastic bag over her head and her skull crushed in her apartment in Torre a Mare. According to investigations, the death of Catherine Susca was caused by the beating she received in the course of the attack, suffocation with a plastic bag dropped on her head and strangulation with a scarf.
   The Nigerian boy, Donald Nwajiobi, who lives in Bari but homeless, confessed he killed the woman in self defense after she attacked him with a pair of scissors and he also claimed to have acted alone. However, investigators will verify whether there were accomplices. Donald said he had met the victim at Torre a Mare on the morning of the incident and asked her for food; the lady who was in the car asked him to follow her home with a promise to give him something to eat.
   The police think once in the house, Donald tried to steal from the woman and was caught in the act, which would have led the 60 year old woman into trying to chase him out of her house with a pair of scissors, but Donald attacked her and suffocated her with a plastic bag after beating her up. Some money was stolen from the deceased plus a mobile phone with which he was tracked down by the police.
  Donald was remanded in prison after the judge, Sergio Di Paola, ruled that he could be dangerous to free him on bail for he could kill again and probably flee.

oil-refineryThe Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) on Sunday said that the bureau would privatise the four refineries in the country next year.

Mr Chigbo Anichebe, the Bureau’s Head, Public Communications, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja that the refineries’ privatisation was part of the ongoing oil sector’s reforms.

Earlier last week, the Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs Diezani Alison-Madueke, told Bloomberg TV Africa in London that the country would privatise its four government-owned refineries in the first quarter of next year.

The second time the Federal Government is disclosing plans to privatise its refineries.

President Olusegun Obasanjo approved the sale of the refineries during his administration but the late President Umaru Yar’Adua in 2007 reversed the sale of the refineries for lack of transparency in the transaction.

However, President Goodluck Jonathan in November 2012 recommended that the refineries should be sold due to inadequate finance and under-performance.

Anichebe, nonetheless, said that the privatisation plans were currently at the preliminary stage, where the blueprint of the policy would be decided.

“We are working with the NNPC and Ministry of Petroleum Resources on the privatisation of the four refineries.

“We are just in the preliminary discussion with them and very soon, we will make public the work plan for the privatisation processes, including the engagement of advisers to advise us on the transaction.

“Once the work plan is fine-tuned, hopefully by the end of the year or early January next year, the work plan as well as the schedule will be unveiled to all stakeholders, including the media,’’ he said.

Anichebe said that the privatisation would be handled in line with the usual strategy of the bureau, which was to sell a certain percentage of shares and reserve a certain percentage for the workers, host communities and Nigerians at large.

He urged Nigerians not to be apprehensive about the refineries’ sale because only capable and visionary investors would be considered in the privatisation process.

“People should not be edgy about this transaction because we have done this over and over again. When we first started with the telecommunications sector, people were worried that we will give it to the wrong people.

“They were worried about the security implications and all that. I believe that whether these companies end up with local, home-based or foreign investors, what is important is the efficiency of whoever is handling it.

“The criteria should be that the buyers have the financial muscle and technical know-how to run these companies. We don’t bother about where they come from, as long as they are coming with clean money to invest in our economy.

“So, when we are doing our evaluation of investors for the transaction, that is what we will look at,’’ he said.

The BPE spokesman also said that in 2014, the bureau would also begin the privatisation of the housing sector, Abuja Security and Commodity Exchange Plc., as well as the country’s transportation sector. (NAN)
